Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

@jowe_gw

lol come on, you know it's going to get patched, you're just playing difficult.

This is going to be "the" Pokemon game for the next couple years just like Sword and Shield was.

You have more of a leg to stand on with your other argument about not having to play a game to judge it. I kind of sympathize with you because we can definitely watch videos and see the performance hits and bugs. But in terms of gameplay... ya gotta play it.

Re: Harvestella To Get Improvements Based On Switch Demo Player Feedback

I'm glad to see the time lapses be slowed down a bit. There really wasn't much time in the day to do anything other than water crops as quickly as possible and then bee-line straight to whatever quest you were currently on.

Overall I'm still a bit up in the air. It's definitely more JRPG than Harvest Moon, but it is rather charming, and the character movement and combat feels pretty decent.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The September 2022 Nintendo Direct?

I don't have enough money for this stuff anymore lol

It was awesome, maybe one of my favorites. We all knew Tunic was coming, but I didn't realize so soon. A brand-new mainline Fire Emblem, Octopath II, and that Fae Farm game actually looked kinda cool.

That's on top of more info from stuff like Harvastella (demo with carryover is always sweet), Zelda, Bayonetta, Rabbids, etc.

Not really a Pikmin fan, but wow was this Direct awesome. (Also wonder if the player icon during the Goldeneye showing was a hint...?)

Re: Soapbox: In Praise Of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Two Years On

Yea, this is a fantastic game. It's actually my most-played Switch game, and even though it's more streamlined in some of the tactical elements, it just takes me right back to the gold era of the first FF Tactics.

The exploration elements are what actually drew me in in the first place. I played some FE on my 3DS and enjoyed the games, but didn't love them or go back to play them more after I beat them. With Three Houses, every time I beat a path I immediately start a new one (I'm on my blue path now, still need to do the other red).

Re: Talking Point: amiibo Have Always Been Physical DLC, Skyward Sword HD Is No Different

@sixrings
Well, we differ on a fundamental principle, then. I think games are art, and much like movies or music or books, I don't think prices for these things should naturally decrease over time (copyright for very old books is different obviously). Old games aren't day-old bread or appliances or cars that have newer models, thus defeating the purpose of owning the old other than collector's value. After adjusting for regular economics like inflation, I believe games and other art forms shouldn't lose value based solely on age.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2's Final Ninji Speedrun Course Could Spell The End For New Content

@SalvorHardin
It's not optimal, but you just need to spend some time in the game playing random endless levels until you find makers you like. Sometimes the trending levels aren't bad. You can easily tell the 3D World spam levels at a glance, so don't play them obviously.

It's not as good as curated lists by a long shot, but there are tons of great levels and makers out there.

Re: Nintendo Wants To Know What You Think About The Demo For Square Enix's New Tactical RPG

I loved the demo. Really took me back to FF Tactics, like choosing character direction at the end of your turn, targeting spaces on the ground for AoE effects regardless of enemies, individual turn order instead of whole teams going at once. I also liked some of the environmental effects you can create, like the ice wall from one of your mages. It's neat that height plays such a crucial role in planning attacks, too.

@Darknyht
Very true, but then it kind of becomes a chicken-and-egg thing. Who would put a stop to the cycle?

Is it us, the gamers, if we just stop purchasing this crud?
Is it the developers if they refuse to cave to their publishers (which they really can't do in 99% of cases).
Is it the media who needs to be more honest in their previews and impressions of games that aren't stacking up to be what they are promised?
