Re: 36 Longest Switch Games Worth Playing To The End

@Maubari
I was there in the 80s and 90s.

We were playing PacMan and Mario Bros. and Asteroids, all of which you can certainly put in over a hundred hours each, but obviously due to repetition, not story arcs and stuff like that.

So yea, indeed, very impressive.

Re: GameStop Hit By Layoffs As Analyst Predicts 'Unsustainable' Sales Decline

That's too bad, I've usually had good experiences with my local Gamestops as well as preordering stuff online to be delivered the day of launch (that's how I got my launch-day Switch, actually).

Yea, it's annoying to always be asked if you want the game insurance every time you buy a game, but I just politely say no and I've never had a sales associate who got pushy or anything.

There are lots of benefits to digital, I get it, but at the end of the day the stuff really isn't yours, you just have a digital license. Just not a fan of that, plain and simple. But maybe "ownership" as we know it will continue to change in many areas of our lives.

@rushiosan
Now, I know this is a crazy concept, but here’s what I do:

-If I already own a game, I don’t buy it again. And if at all possible, I always buy physical. I don’t mess with digital licenses if I don’t have to.

  • I don’t get rid of my old consoles.
  • I don’t buy stupid DLC.
  • I don’t buy any game for a price I don’t want to pay for it. There are too many easy alternatives in waiting for sales, buying used, and even renting if I don’t have long-term interest in the game.

Novel concepts, I’m sure. But maybe if more people acted this way, we wouldn’t be having this back-and-forth in the first place. If people stopped buying Nintendo’s games at full price or near to full price seven years after release, then we would likely see different pricing behavior from Nintendo.

Re: Review: Contra: Operation Galuga (Switch) - Does The Series Proud, But Best Played Elsewhere

@Ironcore
Yea, some people do take it a bit far. There comes a point when a stuttering framerate impacts the enjoyability of a game.

For me, the only game I can recall actually doing that to me on the Switch was Crash Bandicoot 4. It’s a great game, but the frame rate for such precise platforming and fast action really needed to be smoother, and I got frustrated with it.

For the Peach demo, it does stutter and run at 30 (right?), but it wasn’t really asking much of me in terms of intense gameplay, so I didn’t notice it or mind it as much.

@rushiosan

I think the developers of older games would think your comment to be insulting. Why should a game that is just over 5 years old be discounted more than 33%? What makes it worth less in such a small span of time?

This discussion is always so dumb. We all want to enjoy games and revere them as achievements in art and gameplay, but as soon as they’re older than a year we want to pay close to nothing for them.

I can never recommend enough Super Lucky's Tale for anybody craving a polished 3D collection platformer. Tight controls, low-medium difficult that eventually gets to medium and then slightly higher with the extra levels. It's not gonna stress you out, which is sometimes a nice thing when it comes to gaming lol

Re: Sea Of Stars Developer Sabotage Replacing 'The Completionist' NPC

Personally, I'm just sick of the cancelling.

I'd rather wait to hear from an actual court of law (and yea, I've been following this - it's certainly going to a court of law) on Jirard's culpability in all this.

Others can let Youtube jockeys out to make their own money show them the "proof" from their gamer chairs.

I've seen the videos. I know what it LOOKS like, but I'm amazed we still continue to jump to conclusions before all information is available and parsed by people who actually prosecute this kind of stuff for a living. There's a ton of critical information that none of us have access to that only government agencies will have once they start actually investigating.

So, for me, this is premature and another bummer where people and companies are way too quick to pass judgment, but hey, it's their company, their choice.

This has a very WoW "You think you do, but you don't" feel. Now look at the success of WoW Classic.

Just saying. I was disappointed to see him simplify things and chalk it all up to nostalgia when I read this at another outlet yesterday. He must know that, every single day, gamers are out there still playing and enjoying the older Zelda games? He doesn't strike me as an unintelligent person.

Re: Percentage Of Female Managers At Nintendo Hasn't Improved, Despite Pledges

@Not_Soos
It's an assumption, absolutely, but I would bet my house it's true. (You also know it's true, but it doesn't help your point, so you're not gonna admit it - I get it.)

This is crazy - no word of a lie, your hometown sounds exactly like mine. I live in the northeast in "coal country."

But the fascinating thing here is our different takes on our situations and the reasons for them: You seem to be a bit bitter, and you explicitly mention "greener energy" as the reason why coal is no longer as desired and led to the decline of your area. The reality is, coal was going out of fashion looooooong before "green" energy ever became a buzzword. Oil and even natural gas were just way more practical for most people: way less dirty, easier to collect and easier to transport and get into homes. No more coal bins and coal chutes in basements and stuff like that. It wasn't because oil or natural gas was more "green" - I do hope you realize that, right? People in the 70s. 80s and 90s who moved away from coal for oil obviously weren't doing it to lessen their environmental impact lol We still have coal companies around here, and some have found ways to adapt and remain somewhat relevant, but they'll never be at the volume they used to be, but that's called progress: coal is not safe or clean in so many ways.

Anyway, my perspective on this, and you're not gonna like it: You and I are still white dudes, bud. You may feel like people judge you, and they may, but it's not to the level of if you were a minority or if you were a woman. Sorry but not sorry. I agree with your underlying view that biases exist everywhere and can even form as a female CEO hiring more females and such, but in our slice of the world, being the combo of white and male has been a leg up for a very long time.

Re: Triangle Strategy's First Update In Over A Year Adds Extra Story Epilogue

@Cashews
Nah, the story gets better. The demo was a poor choice on the dev's part because they put you in missions that are already somewhat into the game. Nobody knew the story or how the game started, and most people playing a demo just want to get a feel for the gameplay, not feel confused as to what the story is. One of the missions in the demo is pretty darn deep into the game, actually.

If you play the whole thing from the start, the story is freakin' awesome.
