Re: Hands On: Taking The Path Less Traveled In Octopath Traveler

So excited to be getting this next week. Should give me some awesome times for the middle of this summer.

Art is fantastic. Gameplay is fantastic.

But I'm still worried about the story. I actually like the grand stories that RPGs tell, even if lots of them share the same themes. It's good to try something new, though. Could be refreshing to just travel and experience a world and smaller conflicts rather than facing doomsday like always.

Re: Mario Tennis Aces Won’t Let You Play A Regular Game Of Tennis

@Not_Soos
I think people are calling you a "crybaby" because your tone, unfortunately, is kinda...well, whiny.

Like you say, you're allowed to have your critiques, but the way you're phrasing things here and in your posts on the forums frame you as throwing a bit of a tantrum. Maybe you're just not super great at controlling your writing tone, but that's just how you're coming off.

Also, I think you were the guy who tried to say Aces needed to be more like Overwatch at launch with more to do even if it is mostly an online title. I lost all respect for your opinion at that point because anybody who was there knows Overwatch was bereft of content at launch and also was 60 dollars, so... yea, no.

You seem REALLY hung up on this game, though. To an almost unhealthy degree. Maybe spend more time actually playing the game rather than complaining about it and you may find more to enjoy?

Re: Switch Owned More Market Share Than Xbox One In UK Last Month

rallydefault

Yea, I don't know if it's so much Nintendo (though the Switch is doing well for itself) as it is Xbox seeming to fumble everything these days.

True exclusives are few and far between, even moreso if you're looking for one that is critically acclaimed, and Sony is matching MS for value/stability in online service (wasn't that way at the end of last gen) while putting out better exclusives.

I started this gen with an Xbox One but quickly moved to PS4 for those exact reasons.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Online FAQ - Everything We Know So Far

rallydefault

Not stoked right now, but dang... 20 bucks for the year? Can't beat that.

And yea, I've had both PS+ and Xbox Live. Very rarely did I enjoy the games they would offer every month. For 60 bucks a year, I probably still got my "money's worth" (though online gaming should be free, which is why I play online stuff only on my PC these days), but it's total garbage that Live or Plus offer a lot more than this. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

rallydefault

Mixed feelings.

Never really used it on past systems (would rather just play the games on the actual systems with the actual controllers when possible), BUT Switch would've been such an amazing vehicle for a one-stop shop of Nintendo classics all under one banner.

Seems like they missed a big opportunity, at least from my perspective. Personally, it won't really matter to me, but generally, yea... I can see why people are upset.

Re: Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom Switch Pre-Orders Are Ten Times Stronger Than PS4

@RedMageLanakyn
I see. I frequent this site for my Nintendo news, but I still go elsewhere for my other systems. To be honest, I rarely delve into the comments on these news stories; I usually just stick to the forums section of the site, and I've found lots of cool people over there.

The clickbait cycle is vicious. For everyone. I had to watch some very close friends get fired because their articles just weren't drawing the number of clicks our parent company wanted. Very stressful and really pits your morals against your need for a livelihood. Really exposed me to the reality of ALL media: it's all a business, and bias exists absolutely everywhere in a world that has become completely monetized.

Re: Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom Switch Pre-Orders Are Ten Times Stronger Than PS4

rallydefault

@RedMageLanakyn
Agreed with your sentiment on taking pride in your work, but like I said: why not just email the author directly? As a former journalist for a site very similar to this one, I was WAY more likely to see feedback when it was sent directly to me. Honestly, I rarely would comb through comments on my articles (as they would sometimes pile up into the hundreds and include lots of drivel) - sending an email was objectively the most direct method.

Public comments by their very nature imply the commentator wants to be heard, and so anyone consistently posting convention edits strikes me as someone who doesn't care so much about the mistakes themselves but simply about being loud and being noticed.

I get that nothing is private these days, and everybody just wants to see the world burn and inflict anguish on people they don't even know. I get that. Your comment indicates that you want to assume the worst about Dom (the author). Heck, your comment assumes you even know how I feel! And I'm just going out on a limb here, but you don't know the first thing about me. You've never even met me. Anyway - I get all of that. It's just our society now. I'm just trying to point out that other options exist that cater to the best of both worlds: allowing one to correct mistakes if that is their true and honest bugbear WHILE not creating a spectacle in the public forum.

Re: Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom Switch Pre-Orders Are Ten Times Stronger Than PS4

rallydefault

@BigKing
Hrm... I'm just the opposite. I'm all caught up on my PS4 and nothing really interests me in the near future. But on Switch, Kirby is now being added to a pretty long backlog.

I'm sure I'm not the only one like this. But I can also acknowledge that my anecdote is not true for everyone. Are you big enough to admit the same?

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I used to work in journalism. I was responsible for six articles a week, and my employment and therefore livelihood hinged on clicks and views. It's stressful and fluid and EVERYONE makes mistakes. The most seasoned writers and editors overlook things on a daily basis. If you have corrections to submit, why not email the author or website directly? Posting them in the comments like you do is in very poor taste and does nothing but feed your own ego, AND it comes off as arrogant and aggressive. I'd wager everything I own that I'm a more competent editor than you, but I feel no need to rub dirt in anyone's eye.

Re: Review: Arcade Archives VS. Super Mario Bros. (Switch eShop)

rallydefault

Merry Christmas, guys! Also, chill on the review score complaints and conspiracies lol

If giving a 9 to the best platformer ever created is an effront to your internet mojo, just stick to the review text and use your common sense. ALL reviews are biased and have always been, no matter thd outlet or user. All people are biased. Period.

Re: Here’s Why Traditional Dungeons Got Axed in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

rallydefault

Nope, sorry. Longer dungeons NEED to come back.

Look, BotW is an excellent game. I'm approaching 200 hours in it, normal and hero modes. It's an awesome, awesome game and will go down as one of the best ever made.

But it's not a Zelda game.

I hope the devs take what worked with BotW and find some way to make it more a ZELDA game next time. Some kind of combination of what works from the past and from BotW.

... I don't have too much faith you'll actually read this article through an unbiased lens, but there you have it.

But hey, that's just the game's director. Dude probably doesn't know a dang thing.

Also, cut back on the snippiness. we're discussing a video game, not the fate of your first-born child.

Re: Wii U's Failure Is Responsible For Switch's Success, Says Reggie

rallydefault

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Sorry, man, but BotW did not END as a port.

I'll give you that it started as a port. It started as a Wii U-only game; you do your research, you know that.

But a full year or more out from the Switch launch, Nintendo shifted the development to make BotW a Switch release first and a Wii U port second. This has been stated in interviews and news articles. You (probably?) also know that.

So just let it go. It's mostly semantics at this point anyway. It's all good.

Re: Report Claims That Switch Manufacturing Has Increased to Two Million Units a Month

rallydefault

The Holidays should be a fantastic, fantastic time for the Switch. Odyssey, if it turns out to be good <fingers crossed>, has real potential to open this baby up to new consumers and gamer hold-outs alike. This is not to mention a healthy stable of AAA third-party offerings coming up, including a Switch release for the new Wolfenstein. And those pesky GTA V rumors keep circulating... Pretty cool.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Breaks Down DOOM On Switch In A Unique Way

rallydefault

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I play all my FPS on PC. I've got a beast rig running in the 100s of frames per second at 1080p. But even still, the portability of this game= a purchase for me, even if it's 30fps. The ability to sit back and play some DOOM in my bed or on the couch when I don't feel like hunching over my PC is worth it.

Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

rallydefault

Sure, there are lots of criticisms to make. But you're a fool to not take into account each individual's bias.

Here's my bias: I never thought this guy's games were particularly good.

Just keep it in mind.

I think the most interesting thing to see to hold up against comments like these would be ACTUAL third-party sales of stuff that has been on all the consoles. NBA Playgrounds, for example. That would be an interesting article: let's see the sales figures for that game between Xbox, PS, PC, and Switch. IF Switch sold the most (not saying it did), and that fact was presented in an interview like this, I wonder what his excuse would be?

Re: ARMS and Nintendo Switch Keep a Grip on the Japanese Charts

rallydefault

@DEZn00ts
Man, believe me when I say this: I WISH I was still a kid lol

I'm probably double your age, not even joking.

I think judging a game because it's "2GB" is pretty childish.

If you want to judge by price, that's fine. But ARMS has a good amount of content for 60 bucks. There are plenty of games and DLC out there to attack for not being worth the money they are asking, but ARMS ain't one of them.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Pokémon Direct and Its Big Reveals?

rallydefault

@XCWarrior
They really should have just been called "reveals," I agree, but to minimize them is kinda silly. The only reason you're doing that is because you were expecting a mainline game for the Switch (which many of us were).

In a vacuum, the games they announced are pretty awesome. Pokemon players are gonna love having two brand-new games on the 3DS this year.
