Re: Ori 1 + 2 Getting Standard Physical Releases On Switch "Later This Year"

rallydefault

I have them both digitally. I try to buy physical, but I just want to play games, and waiting for months just to get the physical doesn't make sense to me if I'm not an avid collector.

Loving Will of the Wisps even more than the original, though I have had 2 game crashes and a time when I warped and then couldn't move the character without exiting to the main menu. About 5 hours played. I didn't have any crashes with the original on Switch.

@Eel
Yep, and I just realized my original post I said Story of Seasons when I meant Friend of Mineral Town specifically lol my bad gotta fix that

Article comments are generally where people go to hate, and if it's video games I'd wager it's a majority of people who haven't even played the game (or in this case the closest current playable game by the same company). People are gonna be people. Live and let live, is what I say, but dang it does get annoying.

I can't help but wonder if these people ever stop and realize how nonsensical they are.

Re: Harvest Moon: One World Launches On Switch In March, First Screenshots Shared

Friends of Mineral Town on Switch was pretty good, I'll admit. I was grouchy about it and held out for a bit, but I took the plunge and bought it a couple weeks ago. I'm over a year in and it's been a fun time. Graphics were much better in motion. Sounds like a cop-out, and I was totally a skeptic, but it turned out to be true.

People still saying it looks like a cell phone game or whatever most likely haven't played it, and that's just the cold truth, say what you want. All of these farming sims have the over stylized graphics these days, some are just more hand-drawn and some are more computerized and rounded. People don't drag Stardew Valley through the mud for looking like a SNES game, so I don't get the hate. FoMT in motion reminded me a lot of HM 64's graphics, and for me that was pretty nice.

So I'll support them on this.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says "It's A Necessity" To Change The Combat System In Every Entry

rallydefault

I loved the battle system in Origami King. I didn't feel it was "disconnected" or anything like that - so much of the game revolves around shapes and shape folding and manipulation. As you get stronger you can skip some of the lower-level baddies if you want, but the battles remain important throughout the whole game, which was nice. And the boss battles are pretty awesome nearly across the board.

I really do wonder how many people who trash this game have actually played it, and this website is mild by comparison. There should be some sort of verification system kinda like Steam has where if people are gonna post stuff about a game, good or bad, there's some way to see if they've actually played the game and for how much time. It shouldn't bar anyone from posting (imagine the outrage, dear goodness), but simply put an icon next to their name with hours played. Maybe have people link to their Switch accounts and it could automatically check.

Re: Paper Mario: The Origami King Launch Sales Compared To Past Entries (Japan)

Origami King s SO awesome - I'm loving it and having so much fun with it. One of those games where I tell myself I'm gonna play for an hour and then suddenly four hours have gone by. Top 3 favorite 1st-party game on Switch, for sure.

The environments and characters, the dialogue and story - it's all so endearing and fun to experience. I don't get the hate on the battle system; seems like something a couple reviewers didn't like and then everyone just joined the pecking order. I think it's cool, and there have been plenty of battles where I've had to really stop and think to find the solution (and some where I couldn't find the solution no matter how hard I tried, I will admit).

Just such an awesome, polished, finely crafted (ha) experience.

Re: Harvest Moon: One World Announced For Nintendo Switch

Please no smart phone graphics. (I realize smart phone games can have excellent graphics; you know what I mean.)

Honestly, at this point Stardew Valley's eaten Harvest Moon's lunch, and they could do worse than simply release a game that gets back to the basics.

I don't need terraforming and a full-on dungeon crawler in my farming simulation. The Harvest Sprite stuff with light cave exploration is fine, but just focus on what made Harvest Moon so awesome on the SNES: farm, crops, animals, village, relationships. That's it. Make that basic stuff awesome again for at least one entry.

Re: Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair Update Makes The Final Stage Easier To Beat

rallydefault

@TJWorks
I gotcha.

@JayJ
I don't understand this, the whole "elite gamer" label thing you and others like to throw around. What's wrong with being able to beat a game? I don't go around crowing about it, but it's a fun accomplishment, and if an article comes around that deals with it specifically, then sure, I may mention that I beat it. I don't consider myself "elite," but I would say I'm pretty good at platformers, and the Lair was a decent challenge that took me back to older-school games.

Why has it become bad for people to be good at something?

Re: Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair Update Makes The Final Stage Easier To Beat

rallydefault

@TJWorks
I disagree entirely. Each of the three sections of the Lair have definite themes, and once you figure out the mechanics of everything, it's not too bad, and certainly nothing is "cheap."

I thought the Lair was really tough my first few tries, but just like video games of old, it takes practice and elbow grease to get it down. I got to the point where I wouldn't even lose a bee in the first section or last sections at all. The second always gave me issues for some reason - I hate ice lol

I'm sure there are platforming gods out there who can do it without the bees, but I'll take doing it with only losing a couple dozen haha

Re: Here Are The Full Patch Notes For Cadence Of Hyrule Version 1.1.0

rallydefault

@isellpixels
Yes - just beat it last night. The biggest differences in the campaign happen near the end, though I don't want to say anything too particular to avoid spoilers.

Up until about Hyrule Castle it was essentially the same game just without the ability to pick up different weapons (Octavo is restricted to his lute attack; he does get unique trigger abilities just like the other characters, too). There are some different dialogue lines from some characters responding to the fact that you're playing as the "bad" guy, but yea, until the end you're not gonna see much different (though the differences at the end are pretty cool).

Re: Here Are The Full Patch Notes For Cadence Of Hyrule Version 1.1.0

rallydefault

Almost finished with Octavo. Just such an awesome "little" game with many, many ways to replay.

I will admit I'm feeling a bit of fatigue now, though. I beat it once starting with Link, once with Zelda, a sprinkling of shorter no-death stints, etc.

Once I beat with Octavo I'll probably be good on this game for quite some time lol

Re: Poll: Pokémon Sword And Shield Are Out Today, Which Version Are You Getting?

rallydefault

@Lalivero
Makes sense, makes sense.

I don't have the energy to keep up with the social media stuff lol I pretty much saw whatever NL ran with big headlines.

I have a nephew who has always really been into Pokémon, so I get info from him. But even he is a little turned off by the new ones, so I'm really questioning if I wanna buy it. I played the first games a lot, but then hardly touched Pokémon until X/Y. So I'm not diehard, but I do like the premise and a good rpg every now and then. Stuff that turns other people off like the shared exp is actually a plus for me. I don't see an issue with the graphics, either, but that's just me.

I wish they would put a demo out for it like they did for Let's Go.

Re: Soapbox: Attacking Pokémon Creator Game Freak Isn't Cool, But Biting Back Isn't The Answer

rallydefault

I think that all of this is so ridiculous and reinforces my notion that the world just wasn't ready for social media (and perhaps the internet in general). Yes, I realize that includes this very forum and this very post. On that note, I would GLADLY give all this up to return to a simpler time.

There are positives, but the negatives have demonstrated themselves to FAR outweigh things in the last decade-ish. Social media gives a megaphone to these bored/angry individuals who have nothing better to do than be offended by any and everything, and further it allows said individuals to directly attack anyone they wish with the most vile, repugnant, and shameful words (and sometimes actions through DOSing, etc.).

I'm not an avid Pokémon fan, but I usually buy the games, and even I can say that the Pokedex has become incredibly large. I don't blame them for not having the whole thing, especially for their first "console" game that likely needed a bit more development than another game/ds title. My suggestion to those who are so hurt by the exclusion: Vote with your wallet. Don't buy the game. It's that simple. Your Twitter words and actions are yet another embarrassment to this hobby, and you are genuinely and needlessly hurting people with the things you say. Vote with your wallet. If sales are down enough, Game Freak will get the message.

Re: Blizzard Cancels Overwatch Switch Launch Event, Leaves Nintendo To Apologise On Its Behalf

rallydefault

Yea, I mean...I've loved Blizzard since the og Warcraft when I was like 8 years old, but this Hearthstone thing...

I'm glad they walked back the penalties a bit, but it is so sad seeing a company bow so hard to the Chinese government. We all know it's because of the oodles of cash Blizz's games get in China.

Kind of sickening when you see how companies really operate. And that includes our beloved Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo’s Share Price Takes A Hit Following Japanese Switch Lite Launch

rallydefault

@SwitchForce
"choices in their game playing" - you mean like what the Switch already provides, home or handheld? lol

Look, Switch Lite will probably do fine. It's whatever. Could be an nice thing for younger kids. I still think it's pretty dumb, and for not doing literally half what a real Switch can do (or the name sake for cryin out loud), it should be $150 and not a cent more.

Re: Guide: How To Share Games And Saves Across A Nintendo Switch And Switch Lite

rallydefault

Yea, honestly, I toyed with the idea of a Switch Lite as my mobile option and just leaving my og switch docked 100% of the time, but this is enough to dissuade me lol

It is pretty clear Nintendo hates money and doesn't really envision people having more than one Switch, and I know that sounds snarky, but it's fine with me. It's really an unnecessary 200 bucks for most people.
