@Blister Zelda is a totally different case. They've retained the essence of Link and Zelda even in vastly different artistic styles. Having said that, Wind Wake was STILL dislike by many back in the days.
This "Sonic" movie however, you don't even need someone who likes Sonic to know that blue thing is not Sonic. They lost the character of Sonic and what makes him recognizable completely with this rendition.
Ya I absolutely agree that auto-renew shouldn't be activated by default. Many people/companies doing the same thing doesn't make it right. Nazism was popular once, does it make it right?
I'm glad that you've included Diablo 3 in the list. This game tends to get brushed off as "a port of an old PC game". It's actually a pretty rare game that's as fun online as it is offline. And it feels nothing like a port.
@rpvl Nintendo is not as short-sighted as just caring about their own wallet unlike some "Triple A" developers now. It understands that it can only make more money when the whole industry is thriving.
Yes, the money doesn't go to Nintendo directly but it says A LOT about their brand equity and market value. All of this has the same if not higher ROI compared to the sales number of games.
While I personally buy more digital games, I don't think they should ever replace physical games. There's a reason why a copy of Super Mario Bros is sold for $100k recently.
How far has the industry wandered off from making games to milking its consumers as much as possible that when a company cares about its OWN brand image, it's so refreshing?
@Peterjr1 I play FEH and don't really feel the issues that you've mentioned. There will always be whales but it's not like the PvE experience is affected. PvP will always be about competing stats or gear in any game that's not real-time. There are still plenty of space to navigate around before feeling the effect of not spending money. That's usually more than enough to a casual mobile gamer.
@Heavyarms55 "Huh, a video game activity log? What a novel idea! If only the Switch kept track of our playtime too... Oh wait, it does! Just like the Wii, 3DS and Wii U before it! Only there is no app to view that information!".
There is, Switch Parental Control. It's tracks your gaming activities and gives you a monthly summary. I find the app misnamed because it's so much more useful than just parental control.
@Retupmocnin then you must have been speaking to non-gamers in Japan.
Japanese gamers and anime fans even worship the VOICE ACTORS of their favorite games/anime, not to mention the makers. They are celebrities like our popstars to many fans.
@AlternateButtons Because when it comes to marketing, market preference and culture are still a thing. Also, they are not stopping anyone from buying it on eshop.
@Geobros It's actually really fun. It makes me feel better about paying for Nintendo Online just to keep playing the games that I've paid the full retail price for.
I'm very pleasantly surprised. I was hoping for Bayo & Animal Crossing though I didn't get them, I want MORE games (Astral Chain, DQ11, Marvel Alliance) now beside those too.
And TETRIS battle royale!!! What a brilliant idea.
@LavaTwilight It's debatable because the best selling console of all time is still PS2. Nintendo is definitely a juggernaut in the industry but Sony is no less influential.
It's a good thing to consumers when the industry is thriving. In fact, it's good to everyone involved. So Sony is absolutely right in saying this. It's the same to Nintendo - it probably hurts Nintendo more if Sony dies despite them being competitors.
@Anti-Matter The irony in Nintendo's "kiddie" games is as an adult, I prefer to play them much more than "realistic" or "gory" games. May be it's because I really start to appreciate good game design than flashy graphics.
Edit: I'm not saying realistic games don't have good design. There are plenty of great ones on all platforms. At the end of the day, aesthetic and gimmicks don't carry games. They may make quick bucks but it's bad for everyone, including the people who are making money temporarily.
When you see figures like this and then hear EA. Activision or Bethesda reps saying the industry is dying and they have no choice but to monetize differently blah blah, they become laughable stupid (and liars)
Make GOOD games and people will buy them. Simple as that.
I'm actually excited to play it. After going through a bunch of soulless cash grab mobile games, I can say confidently that this is one of the few good ones that's enjoyable without forcing you to spend money.
Dragalia is the new kid on the block. FEH definitely requires more thoughts and has more lasting appeal compared to Dragalia at current stage in my opinion.

Re: Blizzard Open To More Nintendo Collaborations And Is "Super-Happy" With Diablo On Switch
I'm super happy with the efforts that went in to the port. It really shows in game.
It's not that complicated sometimes, put in honest work and your customers will pay you back.

I'm not a Sonic fan but knew instantly that thing is not Sonic. How did they even make this mistake in the first place?
Re: EA Has No Plans To Release Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order On The Switch
I have no plan to buy any EA game regardless of what platform it's on.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 30th)
Warframe.
One of the best online games that I've played and I still can't believe it's free.
Re: All Warframe Players Will Receive Free Gifts This Week To Celebrate Its Sixth Anniversary
This game is one of the best games out there and THE best F2P game, F2P done right.
I don't even like sci-fi games much but keep playing it after trying out. Lol. Also, it feels more Star Wars/Star Trek like than Star Wars movies now.
Re: Google Reveals Stadia, Its Vision Of A Cloud Gaming Future

THIS is the real reason that Google is venture into gaming, not because Google is interested in the industry.

Re: Nintendo Veterans Discuss What It's Like Working With Shigeru Miyamoto
@Dissident It's Asian culture, it doesn't put emphasis on praising people in words but will let you know if you did something unsatisfactory.
It's where the whole tiger parents and memes like 'you are Asian, not Bsian' come from.

I don't even mind getting fewer orbs but no power creep, it just kills the joy and satisfaction.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Is Getting A Gorgeous Limited Edition In Japan
The metal box art is so much better than the game box art. The design of the game box art looks like a low cost random JRPG.
Love the music though! Can't wait to play the game.

Re: Octopath Traveler Makes The Leap To Mobile, New Console Game Will Take "A Little While Longer"
@AlternateButtons no reason except it will make tons and tons of cash. Many companies deem it enough to move even disregarding other consequences.

Re: Get Ready To Participate In The Tetris 99 Maximus Cup, Starting Later This Week
@SKTTR What more goals do you expect from a battle royale game mode? It's always about the last person standing.
It's like playing basketball but hoping you'd have more goals than getting the ball in the hoop.
Re: Get Ready To Participate In The Tetris 99 Maximus Cup, Starting Later This Week
This will be a bloodbath. Lol
Re: Random: One Tiny Fix Could Make Sonic's Movie Appearance So Much Better
@antdickens agreed. It's all in the eyes. That original poster is NOT Sonic but a random blue hedgehog.

Re: Review: Tetris 99 - A Revolutionary Take On A Puzzle Classic
I've played 4 hours of Tetris yesterday. 4 hours of Tetris among games like Smash and Splatoon... I didn't know expect this.
It's strangely addictive and intense.
Edit: I wish there's an option to mute the music or give us more music. It gets on my nerves after listening it non-stop for hours.

Re: Talking Point: What Does The Nintendo Seal Of Quality Mean In 2019?
@NEStalgia thanks for the laughs.
Jokes aside, I trust the seal even more nowadays in the world of buggy games, micro-transactions and unfinished products to sell the rest as DLC.
Re: Nintendo Is Already Taking The Necessary Steps To Combat Video Game Addiction
Nintendo is trying to help people PLAY games for too long while companies like EA pray on people who may have gambling issues with loot boxes.
The difference here is what makes a company great. They truly understand sustained business and short-term cash grabs.

Re: Nintendo Banked $348 Million In Mobile Revenue Last Year
@Trajan Gaming is a form of entertainment, they are all shallow by definition.
It's only a matter of personal preference.
Re: Nintendo Banked $348 Million In Mobile Revenue Last Year
@Ludovsky While $300+M may not seem to be significant out of the $9B revenue, you need to look at its initial capital to get a better picture.
Just think about investing $1 and get $3 back against investing $10 and get $15 back, that's a 300% revenue vs. 150% though $5 is a lot more than $2.
