The changes in this update are designed to lower the abilities of a portion of all weapons and specials that, based on analysis of statistical data, had obtained an advantage in results.
Our intention is that this will entice players to explore these weapons, while retaining their individual strengths of the weapons in scenarios where they are advantageous.
We reference various sorts of statistical data for these adjustments, but in particular for those which lower the abilities of certain weapons, we've focused on data from matches between players of high Rank.
We will issue future updates after looking carefully at changes resulting from this update, as well as the overall state of statistical data over the long term.
Other Changes
- Changed the unlock conditions for Tracks #20 through #26 in Squid Beatz 2 so that anyone can play them.
- Extended the time limit to play your next game after you repeatedly disconnect within a short period of time.
- This change will affect only those with frequent disconnects, less than 1% of all active players worldwide.
- The more frequent your disconnects over a short period of time, the longer the time limit to play your next game will be.
- When you download the latest update data, you will no longer be able to connect with players in The Shoal who have older update data.

I love the game and have put over 1,000 hours into it but I haven't touched it since the final Splatfest. A combination of having less incentive to play and also having about a billion other Switch games that I've wanted to play since then.
This is a rough translation of the patch notes in case anyone is interested:

Note that the fourth note, about the inkbrush, is actually for the Tri Slosher.
Nintendo should take a note out of Sony’s playbook and offer Splatoon 2 free to keep for a month. During that time put the expansion on sale for half-price or make the full-price include 6 months of online sub.
They’d rake it in on a game a lot of people have probably forgotten about.
I had a lot of fun with this game when it first came out but not picked it up for ages (maybe when the big updates stopped).
Do people still play it much?
I still play it sometimes. Still one of the best games on the Switch. Needs a sequel within the next 12-18 months though. Nintendo are massively missing a trick if we're not all on Splatoon 3 before Christmas 2021.
I still play occasionally with my son. League battle is still insanely intense and fun.
There are some excellent games on Switch I haven't played in a while. I've been playing Mario Tennis Aces recently and Splatoon 2 comes next!
@BenAV I couldn't tell you are a fan
Can’t even remember the last time I played it
I need to go back and finish the single-player campaign someday. Is the Octo expansion worth the cost?
They need to have more maps on rotation for the the battle mode. Real frustrating that turf wars has more choice when it comes to this!
Love Splatoon, it's time to play the story mode again. I miss it. They should do Slaton like Fortnite they could make so much more money.
I still play ranked and Salmon Run regularly. There really isn’t another game like it, especially if you have a few friends with copies themselves. Incredibly fun
Is the online still fairly active? I loved the first game and would love to get this but i don't want too if the online isn't that active any more, i knows there's a solid SP but its the MP what i want to play most.
@WallyWest
Oh yeah it's still full online. Just started playing again after taking a year or so off.
@Smoo Good to hear, i might pick get it soon then.
@parkinho I wasn't a fan of the original single player campaign, and cleared out the stages as if they were chores.
Octo Expansion on the other hand was a delight. The stages were creative but still challenging, the music is great, the final boss was a ton of fun, and it dips a little deeper into character backstory if that's the kinda thing you're interested in.
I still think multiplayer is where this game shines, but I get that it's not how everyone wants to spend their play time.
Yeah, after 1000 hours, and splatfests end, I've only picked the game up a few times since December. I'm REALLY shocked they haven't made another way to ear Super Sea Snails. I got back into Rocket League (already had 100 hours). Splatoon 2 is an awesome game though. I still highly recommend Splatoon 2. I'd by Splatoon 1 if they ported it - I never had a Wii U.
@WallyWest I still highly recommend Splatoon 2. Online is still active. Learning all those new weapons is fun! Single player & Octo expansion are awesome. Salmon Run is awesome. You know turf war is fun I'm shocked if anyone liked Splatoon 1 and hasn't gotten Splatoon 2 - it's epic. ...I mean, look at my dumb username My friend nagged me to try Splatoon 2. I'm glad they did.
Does the octo expansion ever go on sale?
This game will probably have players all the way until Splatoon 3 comes out. If you're worried about buying it now because it might be too late, don't be. This and Mario Kart 8 are probably the most popular online games on Switch with Smash probably like a close third. (Just taking an educated guess.)
I recently started playing this since I got my Switch last week. I love it every bit as much as the first Splatoon! ❤
@JohnnyC what would it take for it to become a Rocket League Style thing where you rank up. Rocket League is pretty much the only game I play because of the learning curve this game has, the strategy, individual skill and co-operation. Would love Splatoon to have something like this. I played it when it first came out but couldn't get my brother into it so we still just play RL
My 6 year old got me playing this game. It is uber fun. I swear Nintendo has a degree in making IP's and branding icons. They know what they are doing, and a matter of time before Splatoon 3 comes.
Can we finally skip the opening cutscene?
Yes my wife & I still play Splatooon together online... Sometimes one of our kids will join us
@NinChocolate It has been so it probably will again.
That's a big nerf for the Tenta Brellas...
Really wish we still got splatfests. This game still rules, and every time I play I have a blast. I play a few times every week. Community is still kicking strong to
How hard or expensive would it have been to continue doing Splatfests until the sequel? It seems especially at a time like this it would be really welcome.
They obviously are still supporting the game and we are paying for online.
@BenAV I'm in a similar boat, I've played over 600 hours, and I had to make myself stop playing Splatoon just so I could tackle my backlog. But I always keep thinking that I should play it again, because I love that game so much, and it's still just as fun. This is just another reminder to get back in it.
@JoeDiddley I sometimes play it. Currently, I'm busy playing Tales of Vesperia. The game surprisingly still has a player base.
@Reigestugatensho off topic but Tales Of Vesperia is on my get to one day list! I hope you’re enjoying it?
@JoeDiddley Tales of Vesperia is great! I hope you get it eventually.
