They should have added Motley Bossblob for the 3D World style...
I am going to play here shortly! Cheers, Nintendo, to bringing SMM2 back to life!!! 🎉
Game is way too good. One of the best games ever made.
this is the final MAJOR update so that means we could still get 1 or 2 little additions depending on how well people receive this new update
"Each Maker can upload one Super World to Course World."
Nintendo being Nintendo again when it comes to online.
@Toy_Link Nintendo just don't want peoples money.
Just wondering, did the game devs make any levels with the Zelda update or with this new update? Or is the only way to experience it by downloading players/making our own levels with the new features?
World maker is one of the most amazing additions ever to a game and it is sure to breathe new life into this game for me. As someone who grew up with Super Mario World and considers it one of the best games ever made this is incredible.
@Toy_Link Well to be honest you shouldn't really need more than one world, and having a one per user limit will make it so people aren't just half-assing it and putting out a bunch of low effort worlds.
I can’t express how grateful I am for the update and how hyped I am to play it. The only feature I really wanted to be added since the first Mario Maker was the ability to make worlds and combine them into your own game... 4 and a half years later, it’s finally here! Pair that with all of the new items and power-ups and this update is insane. Pretty much a dream come true.
This also gives me hope for a Super Mario Maker 3 now. World Maker looks awesome but I’m picturing the overworld running in the style of SMB3 and NSMBU with more over world themes, mini games, interactive objects, and larger spaces... pair that with a new game style or two plus a brand new story mode and I can see a third entry still feeling like a new and complete package!
Pretty sure I’ll up my user score for this game from an 8 to a 9 or 10 once I toy around with this new mode for a while
Will the maps have other game styles to select from?
The trailer only showed Super Mario World style map graphics for the world maps, which doesn't fit too well if your levels are of another game style like Super Mario Bros. 3.
@Atariboy I checked in the game, and it's SMW only for some reason. I'm not sure why, but maybe the other styles will get added later (since they said this was the last major update but not the last update necessarily).
@Toy_Link Are you serious? You got a gigantic, mega, ultra, free update and you still complain? Grrrrrrrrr....
Now, if we could just get those missing mii costumes.
I can’t believe these have been free updates.
This is the best Mario game ever.
Thank you Nintendo!!!!!
So, can Super Mario Bros. 2 Mario do the Super Jump or not?
Smb 2 (almost....) !!! At last!!!!
Still, there are no vegetables to pull of
This must be the ultimate 2d Mario game now? Endless fun thanks to the community
Has anyone else noticed that when you run out of lives you retain your progress? You don't get booted back to the start of the world. So lives are still meaningless
I was hoping for some new medals to try and get... not that I care about them per se but to aim for that elusive 1st place to get the royal outfit has become extremely difficult now...
@Cosats @JayJ @mesome713 @Toy_Link first world problems
@Euler Yes
@Toy_Link
You can upload one super world containing 40 levels and 8 custom worlds. That's enough. You can always delete it and upload another one if you want to change it.
@andyjlatham are you serious? That’s bs. The only reason world maker sounded good is that lives would actually matter. Damn Nintendo, you messed it up.
@dewokkel https://www.reddit.com/r/MarioMaker/comments/g5xdws/the_lack_of_real_meaning_to_lives_in_world_maker/
@andyjlatham thanks! Let’s make sure Nintendo hears this outcry.
Great game and great update
Now if we could please have less people making obnoxious troll courses and at least try to make levels that are fun and enjoyable. Try to think about the person who is playing your levels and if they would like what you're creating. I stopped playing due to all the horrid level designs.
Ha, didn’t see this direction coming. I figured for more themes but this is also good. All in all great update just a bit sad that there won’t be anymore themes as this was declared the last major update (Nintendo should make “themes” singular).
@Toy_Link
Hi, guys, does anybody know if we can download a world to play it offline?? I would like to take a world I'm playing with me when I'm out home (not right now with this quarentine lol, but you know, later on). Greetings!
@the_beaver Yeah I'd like to know this too.
@Cosats I'm shocked people aren't complaining they can't make a stand alone game like other game making games in switch and PS4.
@Zeldafan79 This is my biggest problem with the Mario Maker games. Few ppl actually make good courses and so its annoying to play. I loved the levels made by the actual Mario developers but than I go to the player levels and 80% of the time it was not great. Than I always end up stopping. This update really makes me want to give it a try again tho.
That’s promising. I’m only just starting to poke around in world maker, but right off the bat it certainly looks like it will change how some courses are made, or at least provide some much needed stakes to doling out 1ups. Like any regular Mario game, you start with a supply (that defaults to 30, a bit high compared to the usual), and losing lives actually has consequences. The only way it mattered before if you put 1ups in your levels is if it turned up while playing endless. And even then it didn’t matter if you put in more than 3. Now you can give players the feeling of getting something valuable by placing some, even more so if you make it a little challenging to grab it.
It’s not too surprising that there’s a limitation of one world at a time. Doesn’t seem like they really needed to impose that but I guess they have their reasons. They don’t really say if you can use levels that are already uploaded individually, though. It would be a bit annoying to have to choose between posting a level on its own or saving it to put into your world. And being able to download other people’s worlds would be helpful, too.
It kind of makes it feel the most authentic if you only use Super Mario World themed levels in a world, since there only seems to be one style to the world maps and it most closely resembles that game’s maps. I guess you can mix and match styles but you’ll always come back to a SMW feeling world map. And it also seems limited to 5 levels per world. The last one has to play to part of the “castle” level, though it doesn’t have to be a castle themed one. You can have less, but you can’t load up a world with a dozen levels in it.
Also, it might have been helpful to increase the amount of doors you can put in a level. Not that we’d want to see a ton of people do the same thing, but you can’t have a gauntlet level where you take on each Koopaling, at least not without having some fights be skippable. You need to be able to give them a key that opens your path to keep up incentive, so a limit of 4 key doors doesn’t support 7 battles. It’s not a big deal, though, because as I said we don’t want to see everyone posting the same boss parade levels. How else can we make beating them have an impact on finishing the level, though?
Still, there are some great additions here that really beef up the “make your own Mario game” experience.
@Kirby_Girl had the same problem as you. But this is really a game changer, this that you can't put a level nobody can finish. You want people to try your whole world. It's great, it really feel like people trying to create their own Mario games. And you can play multiplayer!
finally, they gave us a feature that we wanted for way too long. now, they should add a feature to allow us to use the Wii U Game Pad with the Nintendo Switch to make it easier for creating levels.
I bought this game and couldn't get into it because I just didn't care to play one level at a time. This might change my mind about this game and get me back into it. I am guessing this still doesn't allow much in terms of narrative, but still, this is awesome to see.
@JayJ This. Specially during the launch of this feature. That one limit forces everyone to upload only their best world. It's almost certain they'll increase the number down the line.
....and the race is on to be the first to recreate SMB 1-3 in World Maker. But I'm sure I will still play them all once I come across them. lol
So it seems like Weird Mario is sadly gone for good.
@AG_Awesome No new levels have been added to story mode for the Master Sword power up. I think there was a ninja speed run level with it, but mostly you will need to find it with user levels. Looking at the highly rated levels, you should be able to easily find some.
I think Nintendo even highlighted some:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/09/nintendo_shares_zelda-themed_mario_maker_2_courses_to_celebrate_links_awakening_day
@Euler I forgot about Lanky Mario! I miss him.
I'm discovering once you've seen worlds, you've seen them. Several people have made worlds with 1 - 5 levels in them. You also risk beating the world only to have a connection issue and the world is literally gone.
You also risk playing some garbage worlds or bad levels in a bag of fair to good levels. It's an uneven experience. Lives are meaningless. Plenty of levels I've discovered have stupid amount of celebration lives and coins that work fine in random playing, but in a world, you can quickly get 99 lives.
Some of the larger worlds feel like someone speed mapped them like Mario Bros 1 where it's just 100% horizontal devoid of any challenge, just to add in the new elements and bosses.
Is there an option to play the endless challenge mode yet without getting 3D Mario Levels?
I really enjoy the NES and SNES levels but have a distaste for most user created 3D content since it’s generally like... “Get Cat Bell, Charge Forward Blindly, Win.”
Thanks in advance!
I'm sorry but how does Nintendo ever expect to stay in business when they give us weak updates like this that neglect Charging Chuck? Super Mario World was somehow 30 years ago and you still can't manage to add these classic enemies beloved by millions?
@Euler As a playable variation, maybe so, but try letting a couple baseballs hit the toad house in the new mini game. It may attract some attention...
I’m surprised no new game styles were announced. The wording/phrasing has always implied more were on the way.
@Incoherent1 - Right. Would it have killed them to finally give us SMB2 style? I guess so.
Anyone know what the ninjis mean on the super worlds?
@Stubz702 its people that have played the super world
