We all know that Nintendo is a company with a lot on its plate, planning a new system while developing, marketing and releasing games for the 3DS and Wii U. Corners will be cut, it's inevitable.
It seems the box art for Mario Party Star Rush is one such cut corner, and in a humorous way - Twitter user @starwindbliss recently made the following observation.
There's no denying it, either, take a closer look below.
Oh, Nintendo.

LAZY LAZY LAZY
How old is that can?
Huh. I don't know how to respond to that...
Well Mario Party games are lazy so this is quite fitting.
I guess it's only fitting that the quality of the box art matches the quality of the game.
I knew there was something off about that box-art. The dang thing looked way too familiar.
Looks like a placeholder to me, hard to believe they'd leave the background so plain, no to mention they've cut off the top of Luigi's head.
It's a stock image. I'm pretty sure the peach and toad images are from amiibo packaging as well.
That background had to be a placeholder and at some point it just got shrugged into the final design. The whole thing reeks of apathy.
Where's the problem?
All this story does is make me want a can of those spaghetti-os.
If it ain't broke I guess
It's not the same! There is gold and the blue inside and not outside! It's ORIGINAL YOU HATERZ!!!!!!!111oneoneone
Anyway, I'm more interested how old is that mario pasta.
Mario Party games in general are recycled from the previous games. I mean they still haven't added online multiplayer, making this game completley worthless on a handheld.
Who cares about the box art.
Hahaha laziness in design for a series that has become lazy and predictable. Nintendo was probably hoping no one would notice. It's the age of the interwebs, Ninty, you can't pull this stuff anymore.
Oh, did I mention I'm a Nintendo homer? I'll buy this day one just because I love my 3DS and I hope to end up with a huge collection of games. I'm close to 50 now, what's one more mediocre Mario Party game?
The box art was probably made last minute, and the demo was done a few days earlier.
@XCWarrior I can understand why online wouldn't be added. At least in the recent games, if there is a big difference between the players when reaching the final boss, then the round is lost for those who want to be 1st and they would rage quit, or quit when anything bad happens to them. Locally, this problem is much rarer, since you are all friends and can't really escape. And you can play a new match afterwards.
I think everything about Mario games is recycled these days.
Given the classic poses I'm pretty positive the can's art was already recicled or at least a quick collage XD
Definitly one of their artworks for when they need a quick pic, maybe the guys that take care of the box's art for America got informed last second of the E3 reveal?
Huh ?!
Is that really truth or done by Photoshop ?
Because the ring color is looks different.
Judging by 3D rendering of Mario characters, i believe the picture was in 2013 before. Also, why still i see a void background template for the cover design?
Kinda fishy...
It doesn't matter to me. For such a gigantic franchise there aren't a great deal of different poses of the mushrooms kingdomers.
Nintendo saving costs...
Emphasis on "Rush"
Most likely that is just temporary box art. The final product will look much better. Just look at Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash:

** Actual Cover: http://www.mariowiki.com/images/c/c9/MarioTennisUltraSmashBoxart.png
thats embarrassing
Reflects how much they care about their game.
Some say lazy. I say resourceful.
Wow, and we thought Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash felt rushed and lazy. Remember when Mario Spin-offs used to be given as much care and attention as the main games?! If this is a reflection of the game itself, no ta.
Hahaha
I was about to whine about how they picked the most... well, useless and unneeded (sorry, Mario Party fans) of the Mario spinoffs, as the 3DS would have been fine with a second Mario Kart, a second Mario Tennis or even a second Mario Golf, but this lazy recycling of artwork says more than I ever could.
@NintyFan its definitely a "new way to play"
@AlexSora89 probably first out of the oven and looks like a template for a great idea for a game.
@HSuzumiyaVI
First out of the oven? I'm not used to that English saying, sorry. Can you rephrase your comment, please?
Lol! That's hilarious. Makes me have good feelings about the latest party handheld game!
It looks more like a placeholder boxart with all that white in the background to me. Normal the BGs are more busy then plain right?
LOL... It's kinda funny.
Why is everyone so upset about this?? Looks fine to me.
@AlexSora89 in other words, its the first game to pass Quality Control and is in the optimization phase of development.
Mario Party: now it's not just the gameplay that's recycled.
More than likely placeholder art from their stocks!
Clearly, it's just a placeholder.
@gcunit Mmm. Now I'm hungry and I don't have pasta.
This shall henceforth be known as Mario Party: Spagettio Rush
@HSuzumiyaVI
Oh! Sure thing, I'm positive there's a lot more in store for us... but I hoped we'd see more of it at, you know, E3.
The same art was on my birthday cake as a decoration last year.
Are we really talking about this? Fine they reused some art. It's not like they already used it as box art for a different game. People are just petty.
@MadAdam81 Not to eat them, good lord no. It would just go in my collection - cheaper than an amiibo.
There's Nintendo spaghetti???
Laziest Super Mario box art ever!
The game from what I've seen actually looks quite fun, new and fresh for a Mario Party game. If it's the box art, so be it I guess, nothing to work up about, stop judging a game by its cover. People reuse stuff all the time, that's nothing new. This, like some people have said could just be a place holder, because its super strange that they would cut off Luigi's head like that.
So we'll see about the art and about the game.
Wow...that's pretty tacky.
Sounds about right for a bland-looking game like this.
Someone probably just looked through a bunch of images saved to a computer at Nintendo, and chose one that looked Mario Party-ish. As someone else here said, there's a good chance that isn't the final box art anyway. The picture isn't even fitted for the box.
Yeesh, I heard about this last night. The game looks to have potential, but this isn't a good sign. Really hope it's just a placeholder.
I mean...Spaghettios? Great. Mario Party? Great. I don't see what's not to love about this scenario. 😝
Should we really be surprised? Nintendo has been constantly reusing artwork for Mario spinoffs recently and I have no idea why. How hard is it to create a new render based on the title that character appears in?
I mean, who is to say that the spaghetti-o's can isn't just recycled art that was previously made to get put on a game?
Heheh we will never really truly know for sure?
Could be worse (maybe better for some), they could of gone with the fancy word art and a white background as a place holder.
Now... if Spagettios is IN Mario Party, I think it's all good
But seriously, that's hilariously sad.
@ultraraichu HAHA do people still use Word Art? That was my jam back in late elementary school
Uh-oh, spaghettios!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Darn, I was just about to comment that!
So you're saying that each and every time they need to create an image of Mario and pals for some piece of game art, they don't hand draw it from scratch? gasp
Seriously, this is minor trivia at best. Move along.
Nintendo has always been a penny pincher.
When was that can of Spaghettios sold? Is it possible that the box art was designed before the can art was, and that the can got the art from the game box? Legitimately curious. But like someone already said, it's probably just stock promo art that's been recycled previously.
To be honest, I'm more interested in the Spaghetti-O's than the game.
@AlexSora89 they only dedicate 30-50 mins per game so....
@LemonSlice there was also Pokémon spaghetti as well.
@HSuzumiyaVI
Well, sure, less games, more time for each. Your argument is valid.
Here's hoping that the "rush" in the title won't refer to the game's own development...
@AlexSora89 at least it doesn't describe the "rush" to the hate bandwagons once again on a witch hunt.
smart move Nintendo.
@HSuzumiyaVI
Personally, I'm not on a "hate bandwagon". Not even on a pessimistic bandwagon - I'm just pessimistic based of what I've seen so far.
Here's hoping for an awesome 2017 E3 for Nintendo.
@AlexSora89 well, we will have to wait and see.
@HSuzumiyaVI
They need to remember how (and not necessarily to replicate) how they pulled this off.
@AlexSora89 we'll find out next E3 but I bet the live stream has been their best showing since 2014. so we may never see conferences ever again. don't forget, no one saw Zelda Breath of the wild create lines longer than the Wii lines to Nintnedo's booth.
@HSuzumiyaVI
Maybe it was because of the larger space the booth had
At least they make a effort of the new Zelda!
@XCWarrior i assume this is true but can i ask when they said this? unless its online it IS very worthless as its a multiplayer game. Who the hell plays this alone lol
@Rubbly Game doesn't have online. So yes, this Mario Party, much like all the handheld versions, is worthless.
