Miyamoto was behind Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Star Fox Zero. He's not some sort of all-powerful game-making god. Some of Nintendo's best games didn't have much of any involvement from Miyamoto; they will be fine as a company.
I have a feeling that if you like games by Bethesda, you own a system that can play them. The games they make don't really play to the sensibilities of Nintendo's audience, I think. And if you're a Nintendo fan that likes Fallout, Skyrim, Doom, etc... you probably own a PS4/XBONE/PC also. So what would Bethesda's incentive be to put games on the NX?
I'll stop playing it when it gets cold outside, regardless of updates and stuff like that. The entire appeal of Pokemon Go is the social experience, not the game itself. When other people stop playing, I will too.
I imagine they book the space ahead of time. This smells like a case of things went wrong, and they were supposed to show NX, but something kept them from doing that. Maybe a chip-manufacturer thing, I don't know. Or maybe the games aren't ready. Either way, this seems like the Plan D of things, so they might as well show off Zelda in a way that gives the press a fuller experience.
The cinematic style looks doesn't seem too good to me. Looks like they bit off more than they could chew for their budget. The animations in particular are really distracting, considering their focused on a lot more this time.
Still getting it day one because I need closure for this series so badly.
This product isn't going to prevent any sales of Amiibo. The reason why Amiibo has been such a success is because people want physical figures of Nintendo things, for whatever reason. What they offer from a content perspective is so miniscule that no one would by one just for a costume in Mario Kart.
Mario Kart 8 DLC is some of the best ever made. Fantastic price, and the maps are some of the best in the series' history.
Smash is pricey, and honestly, cross-buy should be with the one-console price. It'd help build goodwill, especially since they're expensive enough as is.
Splatoon isn't exactly what I'd call a good example of good DLC. The content they've been putting out was already on the disc. Perhaps if Nintendo keeps up the current level of support for a while longer, then it will be a good example of DLC. But as it stands, if a traditional shooter tried getting away with what Splatoon did, it would have gotten panned pretty badly by fans and critics alike.
I'd say the reason they don't get that much attention (according to Nintendolife; I honestly think they get tremendous amounts of attention) is because they're on the Wii U. Most people don't have a Wii U. The ones that do and care about Smash, Mario Kart, and Splatoon will know about the DLC, because Nintendo makes sure that players of those games know about the DLC offered (either through menues, update notes, or the like).
And honestly, the DLC offered in Arkham Knight seems to be talked about for the wrong reasons. As for Destiny, it's being treated as a new release to attract new players to it, unlike other kinds of DLC (and it's also drawing a lot of flack for it). Other kinds of DLC aren't trying to draw in new players; they're getting more money out of existing players. Who's going to buy Mario Kart 8 just for the DLC? That seems silly to me.
@Kaze_Memaryu I have a feeling that price tag is to build goodwill among video game fans. Microsoft has spent a good long while making decisions that have burned gamers on them, with their E3 2013 presentation being the killing blow on their image. They now have to build it back, and practically giving away games will probably help somewhat.
@Chaoz Because 6 Kirby games at $40 is totally equivalent to 30 Rareware games at $30.
It's also worth mentioning that Rare didn't really go downhill (in my mind) until after the Stamper brothers left, which was quite a bit after the Microsoft acquisition. They and many others left the company. Just check out Viva Pinata, which was out before they left. It's legit.
Something like Rare Replay would never happen on a Nintendo console. Nintendo would much rather charge $10 bucks for each individual game, without any of the bonus content that the compilation offers.
I feel like Miiverse only really works for its intended purpose for smaller games that don't have a big audience, and as such don't really have any other places on the internet to talk about them/ask for help. You know, those small, downloadable titles that don't get much exposure. There's not a plethora of posts that bog down everything.
Either way, it's not for me, and the redesign isn't changing that.
@LUIGITORNADO No, but they seem to minimalize it. There's an option to show what's on the bottom to the TV with the press of a button (basically switches what is on which screen), so you won't have to switch your eyes constantly. So at the very least, there's that. I don't think you'll be able to play it without the gamepad though.
By the way, you guys are wrong about branching paths. The game is linear, with different mission acting as the replay incentive rather than going to different levels entirely.
"In terms of what you saw in Star Fox 64, with the actual map with the different planets and lots of different branches, this time it will be simpler, but more variety in terms of different missions on the same planet," Miyamoto says. "We want it to be that you can complete the course of the game in the same amount of time you would spend watching a movie, so it's a cinematic experience. While there are still some branching paths, the main thing we are focusing on is having second and third missions available for each planet."
@Uberchu By the time this game comes out, Metal Gear Solid V will be out, and other AAA games will be releasing. I won't have trouble waiting.
Nintendo's knows how to make games, but I like the Vita as a device more. If games will be on both systems, I'll always pick Vita. I'll keep my 3DS around though. Fire Emblem Fates will consume me.
The only game over the entire course of 2015 that I'm likely to buy for Wii U is Xenoblade Chronicles X. One game.
I don't care how you slice it, that's abysmal. For 3DS it's fine, since it already had a fine run, but Wii U never really got a good library under its belt in my eyes.
A part of me wants to think that I will never buy a new Nintendo system after the Wii U, but who am I kidding, I love the games Nintendo puts out. If NX delivers, I'll be there day one.
Hopefully it's not a pitiful pile of disappointment like the Wii U.
Hopefully the game turns out much better on release. Although the artstyle woes aren't going to get fixed, hopefully it gets a level of polish that's up to Nintendo's best games.
However, this is looking like a budget game, not a full retail release.
I think making a petition for cancellation is ridiculous, but that doesn't stop this game from looking like a soulless, hollow cash-in. If Metroid wasn't in the title, I would have thought it was a low-budget indie game. It reminded me of stuff I'd buy on my phone for a dollar or two. But this is a full price retail game. It's unacceptable.
It's baffling to me how Next Level games could put out a game like Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon; a game with passion behind it and a heart that could be seen within 5 seconds, and then make this.
@RedDevilAde I think it was more towards Sony, what with PS Now and such. I can't see a jab working towards Nintendo, since they've had backwards compatibility with all Wii games day one.
@GLA It probably won't have too much of an effect. Chrono Trigger and Earthbound still cost a lot to get on the SNES, even though there's VC releases for them.
@XCWarrior Wouldn't the lack of people who have played it means that there's a bigger audience to sell it to? They have a better reason to buy it, since they've never played any of these games before.
@Chaoz Doesn't change that the game isn't complete. And even then, you can only access two maps every hour. In a game where matches last 3 minutes a pop, that's a lot of repetition over a relatively short period of time.
Utter lack of modes doesn't help matters either. That's honestly the real kicker. Those are what allow the maps to have replayability in other shooters, since it forces players to approach maps in drastically different ways. As it stands, I don't know how I could play this and not get bored dreadfully quickly, especially with the standard set much higher by other shooters.
I'm looking forward to Codename: STEAM. Reminds me a bit of Valkyria Chronicles, which I love.
Outside of that, though, there isn't much. I've already played Majora's Mask, and Monster Hunter and Harvest Moon isn't really my thing. I've already played Titan Attacks on my Vita, and I got all but one of the trophies in the game in a couple of hours. Dementium is pretty archaic if the DS version is any indication.
Hopefully there's more on the way. Thankfully, I have other platforms.
I came in expecting stuff like Verdi and Puccini operas... I suppose this is what I deserve. They can't sing very well... Cool for those interested, though.
"When people started complaining that I wasn't active on Twitter anymore, it was suggested that a PR person could just post in my name. I thought that was about the worst idea I'd ever heard, so I left it as is and let the silence speak for itself." Wow. Nintendo continues to prove how backwards they are. Absolutely rediculous.
