After two critically and commercially successful outings based on the Final Fantasy series, Square Enix's Theatrhythm franchise is being expanded to include Dragon Quest — the company's other million-selling RPG brand.
A new trailer has just been released in Japan which shows off footage from Theatrhythm Dragon Quest — due out early next year in that region — as well as the tunes which will be contained within.
Of note are the battle scenes, which — unlike Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call — don't use a side-on perspective, but instead opt for a first-person viewpoint, just like the mainline Dragon Quest titles themselves.
There's no word on a western release as yet, but our fingers are eternally crossed.
Thanks to Aqueous for the tip!

more rhythm games!
Very unlikely this will see a western release, but if it does...
I might.
Include the observatory theme from 9 and I'll get it. Loved that theme
The only memorable music I even have from the series is the first game. Still I'll probably pick it up cheap down the road if ever released over here. I still like the formula and the tunes can be catchy. Some of my favorite ones on the Final Fantasy version are from games I've never played.
@Drac_Mazoku That's awesome news and what I wanted to hear. It would be a perfect time to get back into the game again once those release.
Squeenix, if you localize I will buy.
I have two copies of Curtain Call unopened, one for me and one for a friend, intended as Xmas gifts. A few days ago I finally unlocked Snow, the last character I was missing from the first game.
I don't want that Theatrhythm. I want The dragon quest monster games that I thought would be out already and let's not go their with Dragon quest 10. Square Enix has left a bad taste in my mouth like I threw up and swolowed some vomit. I can dream. My ultimately favorite game series ever has forsakened me by not coming to US shores. I still gonna get the Bravery games, but if I wanted a rhythm game I would try to revise guitar hero wtf.
Yes please
As cool as this looks and as good as it sounds I. Won't get this
Importing this as soon as it comes out. Hmm that may garner a special new3ds.
@Damien - You're welcome.
I'm quite excited to get a series I actually play and don't despise this time.
I have only played one and a half games in this franchise, but I really liked and felt good about the music in the trailer.
I might get this one.
day 1 import from japanese eshop!
looks great!
Hope this comes to the west, despite how unpopular it is here, even if it's just for eshop.
This is unlikely to come westward.
Even if it does, I probably wouldn't get it. Dragon Quest doesn't touch the music quality of Final Fantasy in my eyes.
I wonder if they could team up with other publishers to make Theatrythm games outside their portfolio.
Mother of God. That looks AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Dragon Quest like...a lot I swear to the lord Enix...bring this west....(and VII too...while your at it) if not I'm buying an original 3DS JAP model, just for this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really, really excited for this one (even if its never coming west)
So buying this!
Also the Chrono Trigger DLC for Curtain Call.
Watching the trailer made me incredibly happy and depressed at the same time.
Unfortunately guys, this very likely will not be making it to NA/EU. This is Square Enix we're talking about. They've released five 3DS Dragon Quest games now, any of which I'd buy on day 1 were they to localise. When will they stop being stupid and localise something in the franchise again? We can only hope soon. This one would probably take, what, a week to translate the text in for a eShop only release here? -.-
They botch one of their two main franchises into terrible games, and then fail to localise any of the other. I don't quite know which fate is worse.
Being a much bigger Dragon Quest fan than a Final Fantasy one, I would definitely buy this if it gets localized!
If Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts becomes a reality, then I'll probably break a table in joy.
I want them to do a Mana / Seiken Densetsu series Theatrthythm game.
The Theatrhythm gameplay seems to work better with Dragon Quest judging by this trailer. But damn, I still hate the Theatrhythm character visual style... it's about the only thing killing my joy of these games.
Hm, while I adore the authenticity of the BMS perspective here, I didn't like the zooming triggers during the airship FMSes in TFFCC, so not sure how I'd take to these.
However, those have to be the best slide triggers in the series to date,
Okay, so SaGa's getting its love in CC DLC, Chrono's not quite storied enough, and the Xeno-verse is split among publishers, so... Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts when?
Why no Chrono trigger/Cross Theatrythm lol that would be sick
