YouTube has plenty of ways to entertain us, and one formula that's hugely successful is the React series in which different groups encounter games and are filmed as they get to grips with them. With Nintendo battling for attention against its big rivals, it can be fun to watch teens - particularly - getting to grips with the big N's games, even if it can be depressing to hear some say "oh, I played this series on the GameCube once" rather than "yeah, this is awesome on Wii U".
In December last year we shared a video from the popular 'React' channel that showed Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and now it's gone more retro with Mario Kart 64. It's not always the most loved of the franchises' games, but nostalgia can be powerful. Besides, we get to see some modern day trash talk; if you're over 25 you may wonder what the heck some of these teens are talking about.
Check it out below and let us know what you think.
Thanks to Takerkaneanite6 for the heads up.

I absolutely love these videos.
6:19 is the best part.
Didn't anyone download Mario Kart 64 on Wii Virtual Console?
" even if it can be depressing to hear some say 'oh, I played this series on the GameCube once' rather than 'yeah, this is awesome on Wii U'."
Wow, God forbid people don't own a Wii U.
I've got Mario Kart 64 for my Nintendo 64 it was also my first game for that console when it came out.
Half my games were made by Rareware back then
I really enjoy these react videos. The teens ones are generally great but the one with elders reacting to Oculus was actually really powerful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ8Xj_I3aNU
I enjoy these but at the same tine I feel old because I was playing some of these games when they came out.
"I'm soooo good at this game!" they all do cruddy, lol
I was never the greatest at MK64, but this is kinda embarrassing
Slow news day, huh?
I only played Mario Kart 64, once. On Royal Raceway, against 3 other people who had already played the game before. I didn’t even know that the A button was to accelerate, I watched the other people and their left hand was on the Z button on the bottom of the controller, so I thought that was the accelerate button, I was wrong. Before anybody verbally destroys me for being a complete idiot, there is one thing that I wish to say, A, I was only 5 and B. I never played a racing game of any kind before then. When I saw that Royal Raceway was returning in Mario Kart 8, my first reaction was, ‘yes, I finally get my redemption!!!’
No
@Bass_X0
I found that I didn't like the button placement for N64 Games on the Wii virtual console. I never upgraded to the Wii U Virtual console to remap those buttons. I still think it needs to be a feature in the wii even though that will not happen at this point.
The Button mapping was also awkward on the VC in the Wii U because you cannot create different profiles for the same type of controller and the Wii U cannot tell the difference between a classic controller Pro and a regular Classic controller. The physical locations of the shoulder buttons between the 2 means you can potential screw up one player over another if they are using different versions of it.
@Rob_mc_1 You couldn't have upgraded to Wii U Virtual Console for N64 games anyway as Nintendo's promise from 2 years has still not yet been fulfilled!
They smack talked the whole time. That's the inherent magic of Mario Kart: it gambles with friendship. <3
It was incredibly funny when karma came back around and bit Ethan in the butt. Still a great episode though, I enjoyed it - it encapsulates the power of Mario Kart to destroy friendships perfectly (ex. Troy and Seth at the end). Hoping they do Mario Kart 8 in the future, I'm assuming they have the game since they have a Wii U and Smash...
I never had Mario kart 64 for my n64... I was 'too cool' back then for the Mario games( games were very very expensive back then as well). Now I realize that they were some of the best games of the era. The item block melody immediately takes me back to my freshman year at school when I would constantly hear that familiar chime echoing down the halls of my dorm. I regret never getting into that game back then. An mk64 loose cartridge is on my list of n64 games I want to physically own. The game is exceptionally fun to play on emulation with an authentic controller and mayflash adaptor, but I want the real thing on my n64.
That was hilarious.
Aw dammit, I was hoping one of the Asians would win (especially the Korean girl), oh well.
This makes me cringe xD
The final race was very entertaining and shows pretty much what mario kart does best.
I'm rather surprised at how close the race was on Rainbow Road, in my experience that is usually the track where the drivers are more scattered out than on any other track.
Put them on 150cc Mirror Toads Turnpike and record their smack talk then >
@moomoo They make an article about pretty much ever Nintendo-related REACT video...
Besides, it's Sunday; Sunday's a day to relax...
@BarryDunne Yeah...I thought 'Hey, I might as well completely embarrass myself to as many people as possible by basicly saying the I couldn't figure out A for Accelerate.' That and it's my only memory about playing this game. This might sound weird, but I only played 2 N64 games when I was 5, Mario Kart 64 and Goldeneye 007. Why I played that at such a young age is beyond me, but hey, I loved playing it...
This video just made me miss the ability to mitigate banana peel spin outs with the brake button.
That was the first time I ever saw someone get hit with the same blue shell on two different parts of the course lol
Why do all these videos get published here? A sponsorship?
Just watched this and was shocked. They picked the slowest characters.
and talk a lot of nonsense.
