@ReubTube96 I'd be quick to be honest. Normally with limited editions from Nintendo, they always sell out way before the game is released, so I'd be surprised if it stays up for much longer. Although, the game seems to be quite niche, so who knows. But if you really want it, I wouldn't take the chance.
@ReubTube96 I was about to PM you a link to the local site, but I see you're from the US. I'm from Belgium.... so it would be the PAL version which would do much good I'm afraid...
Phew, we dodged a bullet on that one. Don't get me wrong, my main HD system last gen was a 360, well actually 4... But I'd hate for Nintendo to be restricted to MS way of doing things. On the other hand, I would not have a problem if they jumped in bed with Sony. Letting Sony handle the console hardware and Nintendo handle the portable hardware, while both develop games for each system. Still would prefer them to be independent, but I'm not sure how much longer they can keep that up if next gen mirrors the current one.
@cl0s09 I just might. Heck I'm not afraid of a little jank in my games. Just look at my avatar, one of my favourite series is Earth Defense Force! But for some reason I haven't felt the need to play Devil's Third even though I bought it a while ago.
@Angelic_Lapras_King This right here! NGamer was the one magazine that to me felt like it was written in the heyday of video game magazines back when OSSM, CVG, Mean Machines, Super Play and all the great ones were going strong. Those guys and girls were such a great group.
I do find it peculiar though that for someone who is supposed to be an adult, you're making such a big deal about how we won't get to see teenage girls skip around in lingerie. hmm
And what does Jeff Gerstmann have to do with this site at all? Because of him NintendoLife is corrupt? well okay then. Heck, who even listens to that guy? He has terrible tastes in games anyway.
@Uncensored The hell is this crap? If you're going to accuse the writers of being corrupt than why even visit the site?
Anyway, first impressions weren't that great, but the Nintendo lifestream combined with the positive reviews just made me order the limited edition even though I was planning on getting it later on.
Hmm, this is going to be a tough year to get through as a Nintendo fan. Not that we haven't been there in the past, but still... Seems like there are quite a lot of changes happening behind the scenes that try to somewhat reset the company in a lot of ways. Scary, but somewhat exciting at the same time, if it all works out that is...
I just said screw it and ordered a Japanese copy from Nin-Nin-game this past week. Got tired of waiting for a EU announcement. If the past is any indication, it will now be confirmed within 2 weeks or so. You can thank me afterwards. ;P
The only thing that bothers me about this piece besides the actual warcrimes it describes is this part: "Nintendo fans have a lot to thank Henry Stimson for." I get what it's trying to put forward, but I don't think thanking a person like this for not killing certain people and letting other people be murdered instead is something I can get behind, no matter what it's impact was on Nintendo or any other company was. :-/
@Sean_Aaron
Ah, I didn't piece that together.
The search on the site is a bit of a mess so it can be hard to find articles you want.
Not sure if you've ever tried Guru Logi Champ on GBA? If you haven't be sure to give it a go as it's also at the top of my list when it comes to puzzle games.
edit: oh that plays pretty much like Kaiten Illust Puzzle Guruguru Logic which you also did a piece on.
I just ordered another ¥5000 eshop card from nin-nin-game as my credit ran out after buying those two. It made me realise that I never delved into the Japanese DSi shop as there was no need to import a DSi since physical games were region free till that point.
@Sean_Aaron OMG! Thank you so much for bringing this up. I had no idea there were DSi versions as well! Booted up my DSiXL and went looking immediately, fearing that with the Hudson buyout, these might not be on there anymore. Didn't find them, only some sudoku games. Yep, I missed the part that said Japanese DSi. Luckily I've got a Japanese 3DS for games such as Picoss 3D 2 which I've been playing non-stop. So I checked the Japanese store and they are still on there! So glad I have these now. Bought Illust Logic DS + Colourful Logic in 2009 and loved it to bits! http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/illust-logic-ds-colorful-logic-review I'm hoping that PixlCross will come to Europe as well. Heck, I didn't even know that there was a Wii version of Illust Logic + Colourful Logic out in Japan. Just ordered a copy. These games are just so addictive. Not many games tend to grab me like a good Picos game. It's really weird. The idea is so basic, but when it's executed well, they are absolutely brilliant. Still hoping for a western release of Picos 3D 2 as well for everyone else. Heck, I'll even double dip. I really have to get around and grab some more Miitomo points so I can get Twilight Princess Picoss as well. I wish they would just let me buy it somehow.
Doesn't make sense to announce something like this for the US and not Europe in this day and age. :-/ Would really like to know if this will come eventually as I was about to order the Japanese retail version. I'll hold off for now I guess.
£167 for this mod? That's a bit crazy if you ask me and I'm not someone who tends to shy away from this kinds of thing at all.
For about £220 you can get an XRGB Mini Framemeister which upscales just about any retro SD device to either 480p, 720p or 1080p without any noticeable input lag. Not to mention a ton more options to play with compared to this mod.
Interesting nonetheless, but certainly not something I'd recommend for the serious retro gamer who wants more than what this brings to the table.
I hate piracy as much as the next guy, but since this hack only removes the region lock, which doesn't have a genuine reason for existing in the first place, I'm all for it. Even though I already own a Japanese n3DSLL and two European ones, I'm glad people keep this issue alive as region locking any hardware should be something left in the dark ages of the 8-bit days when this kinda thing was somehow passable.
@minotaurgamer Oh please. Itagaki is anything but a typical Japanese game developer.
He's always been somewhat of an enfant terrible and a take it or leave it kinda guy.
The game still looks fun to me. The gunplay seems to be the weakest point of the game, at least from what I can make out in the videos I've seen.
Not saying that this will end up being a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but I've played lots of games that didn't click with me the first couple of hours and once they finally did, ended up as some of my favourite games till this day.
Taking Itagaki's generalisation so personal is a bit of a mistake I feel. In the end, opinions will vary and people wil end up deciding for themselves what side they fall on after the game is out.
@millarrp Your best bet is to import a Japanese 3DS then as the system already got 3 retail Kunio games as well as quite a few VC ones and a digital only game as well.
I'm not mad at the people that are left at Sega, just very disappointed as a life-long Sega fan, starting with their arcade games back with Pengo and Up 'n Down and later on Wonderboy, followed by every system they released in the west. This past decade has been so depressing when looking how everything just went downhill with them. I really hope he's able to follow up on his words as I want to seen them get back to their glory days no matter the cost.
Well to be fair, playing a Criterion developed F-Zero wouldn't have been my idea of fun either. The series is anything but flash over substance, so I don't think it would have been a good fit. I'd rather see Monster Games take on a new F-Zero game for example.
Jaleco wasn't really known for it's high quality games, and I agree with the score for Rival Turf, but for some reason I still love this game so damn much.
I really like the game, but I'm not spending money on gems out of principle.
If they were to release a physical copy in the Puzzle & Dragons Z style where the F2P parts get cut and replaced with and actual progress system, along with more content, I would pick it up in a heartbeat though.
For all the grief that Nintendo tends to get from all over the place, region locking is the only one that really bothers me.
I just finally bit the bullet and ordered a n3DSLL from Japan so I could finally play games like Game Center CX3, the Kunio-Kun games, Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, Zookeeper 3D, among others. Not to mention a ton of eShop games. Instead of having to waste almost €200 on another system that I basically already own, I could have bought 4-5 new games... :-/
Well this came out of nowhere for me. Day one! Looks fantastic.
Oh and it might just be me, but I love the look of the fruit in this game. Takes me back to the good old days of playing Pacman and Bubble Bobble in the arcade.
"In focus tests, we heard all the time, people were sick of speed, Sonic was too fast, they wanted to slow down. Speed was shelved because we were under the impression people didn't want it. Speed is always a Sonic thing, we didn't focus on that."
Well okay then... :-/ Yet it didn't hit that maybe, just maybe the speed wasn't the problem but instead focus tests just don't work like most of these people think they do? Design by focus test is just such a terrible idea overall. Just make the best possible product that you can with an actual vision behind it for a change. If it doesn't fly, well at least you tried.
I really hope that Shibata will be giving us another hanabi festival this year and deliver some previously Japanese only games to Europe. It's been way too long since we got one.
Zangeki no Reginleiv is one of my absolute favourite Wii games and one of my favourite games ever even, and also the reason why I had to mod my Wii (along with ExcieBots). Even bought the game twice since I love it so much. Wanted a spare copy just in case.
I would take a direct port in Europe without blinking an eye, but even better would be a simple menu translation one since that will be the main stumbling block for most people to enjoy the game to it's fullest.
I wish there was a way to make this happen somehow.
Good. If I were Nintendo I'd mess with them some more and have certain things randomly happen to people playing pirated games. Like deleting their save data or crashing them randomly.
Oof, that would be heartbreaking. Although I have a good feeling that a Metroid revival is on the way, hopefully for both the 3DS and Wii U. There certainly have been a couple of hints in the past year, even though they have been very subtle. Mario Kart is behind us, so is Smash, plenty of Mario, Donkey Kong and Soon Zelda for 3DS and Wii U. So Metroid being next makes too much sense not to be in the books as one of the big titles to build 2016 around.
