The region-lock excuse is being used a lot these days. Even though I don't think Nintendo would ever do this, I think they really should remove region locks from their systems to not give these hackers the excuse that they are doing it for the good of the customer. I would even be fine in having to buy a special "unlock app" from the shop or something like that, which would make the 3DS able to play Japanese and US games. As someone who has imported a rather large amount of Japanese only games in the past 2 decades this affects me as well, yet I'm not looking forward to having a hack show up that might undermine the systems support from 3rd party developers.
Wow, a goty special that I don't end up shaking my head to. That certainly is a first this year. Can't speak for the dsiware part as I haven't played those games, but I can very much agree with everything else, which kinda scares me. ;P
Hehe, yeah, the first thing I though of when reading that part was that one Nintendolife feature. Not surprising in the least as this really is one of the best Nintendo focussed sites IMHO. Really like Shibata. You could tell he was rather shy and certainly nervous in the first couple of Nintendo Directs, but that's only normal. It really strikes me how Nintendo tends to have these genuine, down to earth people in key spots. Their humble ways sure are in stark contrast to certain other personalities from companies that I'm not going to name right now.
That's darn impressive actually how a wireless connection like this can be quicker than a wired one in certain circumstances. I'm glad I got a Panasonic plasma when I did mainly for issues such as this, so it doesn't affect me. And on top of it, classic games still look very nice on it as well.
Thank you so much for posting this. I had no idea about this promotion.
Bought and registered my XL the day it came out.

Well at least he's not calling the system a babysitting tool and saying how anyone over 20 wouldn't want to be seen playing it in public out of embarrassment like he did with the 3DS.
Or try to make the wiimote out to be a joke by comparing it to a lollipop before ripping it off and creating an actual lollipop themselves...
Needless to say, I just can't take this "friendly competition" thing seriously at all. Certainly not from this guy.
One of my favourite Neo Geo games. Had no idea this was coming to VC anytime soon. Seems to be getting a somewhat harsh review. One thing I just can't agree on though is recommending 2nd Squad over the original. The first one is far superior.
Wonderful news. People have been wondering what Treasure was up to for a while since everything has been extremely quiet since Sin & Punishment 2 launched. Hope whatever it is, it gets a worldwide release as Treasure are one of the companies I'd buy a Japanese system for just to play their games.
Hmm. Need a bit more info on it before I order one. Like what is the stick like? Sanwa? Seimistu? or in-house? Same with the buttons. Sanwa or in-house. If those are cheap in-house parts and not mod-friendly, I'll pass for now. For only €75 it's nearly impossible to get a stick with high grade components so I'm not all that optimistic.
Love this little system so much. Only got mine in 2002, but I've had so much fun with it. I can only imagine how mindblowingly awesome it must have been to grow up in Japan instead of Belgium like I did. So many brilliant games. Really wish we would one day see Gomola Speed on the Virtual Console so more people could play it.
That * on the flyer says that the images as well as the release date mentioned are provisional and might change at any time. In other words, nothing is confirmed. I'd be baffled if that price isn't a placeholder as well.
Very nice! I already have an XRGB2+, but I just ordered one of these as it looks a lot more convenient. Also, it can be a hassle to set up an XRGB every single time when switching consoles. My Neo Geo always gives me a lot of problems especially. Got a SLG3000 version for my Dreamcast as well.
Well they accomplished one thing and that is to become the second entry on my list titled: "never buy another game from this company". Right next to Activision. Bravo gentlemen.
Wow! I didn't expect this at all! What we really need though is Atlus establishing a UK office. That or Nintendo releasing all their games over here. I know, fat chance.
Well, I could easily buy Fez on PSN when it comes out, but looking at how he comes off as a , I'm not going to support his games. Just like I don't buy anything that has Activision on the cover.
The official NOE statement seems to be that it's a case of presenting the games in the exact same way as people remember them, so naturally previous Japan exclusives will run in 60Hz.
But to keep everyone limited to playing all other VC games in 50Hz is shortsighted to say it mildly. In a perfect world NOE would let gamers decide which version they'd like to play and put an option in the Wii's option dashboard about running games in either 50Hz or 60Hz. But that'll probably never happen. Which incidentally is one of the major reasons why I keep buying original Japanese retro games for the original systems, even though the publishers don't get any money from that. It's a lose-lose situation on both sides I'm afraid.
Wow, great article! Love the layout for it as well, very simple yet so distinct. I really love Andro Dunos and Strikers 1945 Plus, both of which I have on AES, the latter one being a conversion from arcade parts. Two games that never seem to get the praise they deserve IMO. Not so crazy on Prehistoric Isle 2 myself but perhaps I need to dig deeper into it as it doesn't play like your average shmup. Pulstar and Blazing Star are wonderful indeed, as is Last Resort. Twinkle Star Sprites has been a favourite of mine ever since I got the Saturn version all those years back. So addictive in multiplayer!
Two games I'd like to add to the list myself are Ghost Pilot and ASOII.
My money is is firmly on a planned announcement since Nintendo of Japan seems to always announce these kinds of things the 23th of the month, and this one was no exception.

Already voted. Figured Segata Sanshiro was a given, I voted for Sakura as I loved the Saturn outings.

Nah, I already have 3 (one import) so I'll be getting a Wii U this holiday.
Forza Horizon is quite brilliant though.
