Re: Blades At The Ready Because Samurai Shodown V Is Coming To Switch Next Week

meppi64

@wasilewski The best one might be debatable, but my favourite one still is Samurai Showdown 2.

@code45709 I'd have to say, ever since the Dreamcast was discontinued, Nintendo were the ones that kept me gaming, despite their ups and downs. Even though I buy all the other systems as well.
The last couple of years before the Switch certainly have been very rough, yet even in their worst years, they have kept me entertained.
Glad see them back on top of their game though.

Re: Blades At The Ready Because Samurai Shodown V Is Coming To Switch Next Week

@code45709 I tend to go a little crazy when there's a console that I really love. And since I especially love handhelds, well, it was just the perfect storm really.
I'm now just over 50 retail games and I don't quite know how many digital games I have.
All the Neo Geo games, pretty much every arcade shoot em up that's been released so far. Tons of indies as well. And yet so many games that I still plan on picking up. But I can't really keep up with releases anymore at this point. It's just too much.
Never expected to say this about a Nintendo system again.
It's a good problem to have though.

Re: Nintendo Is Banning Switch Game Cards To Combat Piracy, Potentially Killing The Second-Hand Market

@GoodBytes

Quoting for good measure "
Incorrect news, but who will read this comment.
The game is blocked only if you try to play the game online without the game cart inserted.
The moment you insert the game cart in the system, the game is recertified and works online and offline just fine.
Basically, your NEED to have the ORIGINAL game cart from the backup ROM in order to play the game on the Switch.
You can use the game cart on your other Switch's and your friend Switch just fine."

Thanks for this.

Yet again it shows that the site shouldn't jump the gun with these types of articles as there have been too many mistakes as of late.
And this only creates fear and confusion that ends up leading it's own life even after a correction is made.
Not only that, but these corrections always seem to come way too late as well.
Something like this needs to be well-researched and crystal clear before put up on a mainstream site.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 2018 Went Big On Smash Bros. But Left Us Wanting More

meppi64

I didn't think it's bad at all, but it certainly could have used one or two big reveals. That would certainly have made a huge difference, perception wise besides the stuff we already knew.
And that sizzle reel should have been expanded a bit more I think. Only a few seconds on certain games like Dragon Ball was not a food idea.

It also could have used more indie content and even retro goodness to mix things up and add more diversity.

Re: Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon Made Over Half Its Sales On Switch

meppi64

Wow, that Vita percentage is really surprising as that fanbase used to be really into indie games like this.
I know, cause that's where I used to spend most of my times a couple years back.
Seems like most really have moved one. Oh well, super happy for the Switch as it continues to show smaller developers that they should put all of their support behind it.

Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves

meppi64

The only thing I don't like about the setup is that it seems to be somewhat of a replacement for an actual Virtual Console setup.
Looking at the success of all the other retro releases already, this system was absolutely perfect to be the one and all retro gaming setup, yet we seem to be getting something highly toned down from Nintendo themselves. Which is an incredible disappointment, unless they have something else lined up that's even better than the old VC setup.
At this point, it's kinda doubtful. :-/

Re: Sega Teases "Huge Announcement" To Be Revealed Tomorrow

meppi64

@Lroy To be fair, they were my Gods during the Saturn era as well even though most people would laugh at that.
Not to mention during the Dreamcast days.

@GrailUK Sadly no, but that's the last good Sega news that comes to mind besides Sonic Mania, which they didn't even make themselves...

Re: Sega Teases "Huge Announcement" To Be Revealed Tomorrow

meppi64

Kinda sad. 20 years ago, I would have been so hyped for something like this. I wouldn't be able to think of much else for a whole day.
Yet today, I read this news and my first thought is "how are they going to let me down this time".
I really miss the old Sega more than anything.

@Hikingguy
Well, at least Orta will be backwards compatible with the Xbox one soon.
Even though it's my second least favourite game in the series after Panzer Dragoon Mini.

Re: Review: Arcade Archives Star Force (Switch eShop)

meppi64

@SmaggTheSmug
Just had a quick look at when I bought my first copy of Star Force on my xls sheet:
Star Force Famicom Japan 42 € Thu 21 June 2007 Videogameimports
Is 10 years enough for it to be a rose tinted nostalgia game?

It depends on the person really.
Naturally I'll recommend Dragon Blaze, Sengoku Blade and Strikers 1945 I&II at first. But when someone goes looking for something different from the norm and wants to expand their library, it's good to take games from al generations into consideration.
Sure for the modern day gamers, it might not be a good recommendation, but then again, these people are most likely looking down upon these games as throwaway entertainment to be played for 30 minutes, finish them with 15 credits and never touch them again.

And I kinda have to disagree with Star Force being called easy.
Quite strongly so actually.

Re: Review: Arcade Archives Star Force (Switch eShop)

meppi64

@SmaggTheSmug
Funny you should say that as someone just asked me for a top 5 of Switch shoot em ups in the SHMUP high-score thread and I put it right in there as mu second mention.

I understands where you're coming from, but then again, many of the shoot em ups on Switch are from different generations, and thus created with various design philosophies. So I agree, comparing them directly to all the other games out there can be really tough. Then again, this also means that games from the original era are very unique as well.

I know it's not the exact same, but the closest I can compare this to is saying Zelda 1 on NES is a 5/10 game since Breath of the Wild is a 10/10.
Each one is a 10 as long as you know how to place the games.

Re: Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Is Getting A Retail Ultimate Edition With All The Extras

meppi64

@RetroGamerAndrew
I did the exact same thing! lol
No idea why amazon is so expensive all of a sudden.
I now have the following preordered at base:
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Shantae Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Day One Edition
Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition
Owlboy
Kirby Star Allies
Super Smash Bros.
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker

And just got Skyrim and Rocket League in today.

I'm hoping the price for One Piece Pirate Warriors will come down a bit as well, because as of right now it's the same as buying it locally, in which case, I get it the day it comes out.
Oh well, can't win them all, I guess.

Re: HAMSTER Accidentally Leaks Two Upcoming ACA Switch Releases

meppi64

@joey302 Well there was one other way to play Xevious at home, even in 1983.
I grew up in small pub that my mom had back then, and there always was an arcade cabinet as well as a pinball table as long back as I can remember.
So I played a ton of arcade games as they were switched out every 2 or 3 months or so. Literally grew up on them.

We have a bit of an arcade community going in the forum for all us old farts. btw.
https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/arcade_archives?start=220
And even a weekly high score competition that's gaining in popularity:

Re: HAMSTER Accidentally Leaks Two Upcoming ACA Switch Releases

meppi64

@JaxonH Well it obviously depends on how far you can go back and enjoy classic games.
I myself have no problem enjoying any arcade games no matter what their release date is and I love Moon Patrol.
Played it back in the arcades a ton and the last time I played it was on Arcade Greatest Hits Midway Collection on PSone.
Got it now on Switch and I love the game just as much as I did back in the day.

Re: HAMSTER Accidentally Leaks Two Upcoming ACA Switch Releases

meppi64

@OorWullie @Shiryu Now that Irem is on board, I'm sure that one will come one day. I was actually going through my PC-Engine games a week or two ago and to my surprise I came across Image Fight II. Completely forgot I got that one all those years go.

And speaking of how this hobby has changed, I don't think we as kids back in the day would be able to imagine playing the games like we are today on Switch. It would have blown our minds.
Heck, the Game Boy blew my mind completely when I first saw it in the Club Nintendo issue!

One of the games that stood out to me as being absolutely arcade perfect was Batsugun on the Sega Saturn.
Bit strange actually since we've seen plenty of arcade perfect games before that. But still, that one really blew me away in that regard.
