Re: 'Switch 2' Will Be An Iterative Evolution And Will Cost $400, Predicts Analyst

maceng

@-wc-
I want that but it won't happen. They wont cannibalize sales for the connected version at 350, for a portable version for 200.

I wish it would but it does not make sense for a company selling truckloads at their current prices (I bought mine used, non-Oled for 250 and it came with a 35 bucks credit). At best, a 250 lite version with smaller screen and non detachable controls, that will require you to buy an additional controller, and with no games included.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Is Now Five Years Old

maceng

There is no need.
MK8 Deluxe is one of the best selling Switch game, month after month.
The price just does not go down for used copies, so there still some really high demand.
I had it on Wii U and on Switch is just perfect.
Nintendo knows this and won´t invest any resources to topple the highest selling game for a successor.
Around 2021 at the earliest.

Re: Video: This Homemade Pikmin Adventure Is A Veritable Winter Wonderland

@thesilverbrick Agree with you, 100%.

Creeps need to learn their lesson. Case in point: I wanted to buy an small fleet of cars for my company. I was contacted by a high school acquaintance that had a dealer. He gave me a decent price but I turned him down. Why? He used to hit his girlfriend pretty hard, like broken teeth hard. I told him why I refused the deal, he told me it was long ago, and I asked him: did you go for jail for that? No, no deal then.

Re: Soapbox: The Super Mario Movie Might Not Be All That Great

maceng

Mario is a hard nut to crack. Pixar would not have been a good fit to Mario, unless they go the way of engrossing Mario and Luigi;s relation in some way. Dramworks could have worked with the adventure part. I think that a Wreck Ralph vibe to it could do it: lots of adventures, with a surprise villain (Donkey Kong posing as a friend and then stabbing Mario in the back), leaving Bowser for the comedic effect, with Luigi as the dependable, but many times in trouble brother, and Peach just as the Queen, but with no deep relation with Mario or the others.

Re: Video: We Made Our Own Nintendo Labo Toy-Con

maceng

What everyone missing is the metal-like strips that come with teh ttoy con and, I bet, will improve the connection between the controllers attached to the toycon and the Switch. I bet that besides been a kind of an antenna, they serve other purposes.

Re: Sorry Netflix Fans, You Won't Be Watching Stranger Things On Your Switch Anytime Soon

maceng

I think that Netflix was told t say taht. When the Switch launched they stated that they were waiting for Nintendo to give the go and that it could be implemented in a heartbeat.

Everyone thinking that Netflix doesn't want to be on close to 10MM extra devices is delusional. This is just Niintendo-fed paranoia or something.

Also, to many posters here wanting the Switch to stay as a gaming device only: that is nonsense. In the worst case scenario, the Netflix app is not mandatory and it shouldn't be as taxing as any game (it ran on a 1st generation 3DS for crying out loud). So why oppose it? My daughter watches Youtube and Netflix more than she plays games on her Wii U. Don't you want Nintendo to sell me a Switch for her?

Re: Nintendo is Suing Mobile Game Company Colopl For $40 Million

maceng

@10-zx Thanks for correcting me. But the article, wrongly it seems, talks about the DS Wrist Strap, from there my confusion.

Everyone knows that the DS predates the iPhone, and that the use of virtual joysticks on the iOS and Android devices, but it has been used for 10 years now, and Nintendo is now coming forward. Legally, is an small hill battle for Nintendo to demonstrate that Colopl infringes "more" than previous developers on such patent.

Re: Nintendo is Suing Mobile Game Company Colopl For $40 Million

maceng

@HappyMaskedGuy Sorry to chime in, but these "goods" are virtual ones and, still, they are viewed a bit different. Don't know if you are talking about mobile devices that (could) carry games that infringe in such patent claims (which will be dumb by Nintendo to pursue) or games originating from China that makes use of these patents (have seen so many Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros clones to count in one hand).

Re: Nintendo is Suing Mobile Game Company Colopl For $40 Million

maceng

@Jackrov I think that you are onto something. Still, mobile is a different landscape and such "virtual joysticks" have been used for well over 6-7 years. But, to be honest, this exact virtual joystick formulation, where is you drag further, the character moves more quickly, I've seen it in probably 2-3 games only.

Re: Nintendo is Suing Mobile Game Company Colopl For $40 Million

maceng

MMmhh. It definitely has nothing to do with the DS Wrist thingy. It's completely virtual.

There is a game dating back to the beginning of the iOS store that uses a virtual joystick: Knights Onrush (there could be many others predating this).

Tried to translate the document issued by Cotopi, but my Japanese is too rusty. And legal Japanese is probably out of my league, anyway.

Re: Nintendo is Suing Mobile Game Company Colopl For $40 Million

maceng

@SLIGEACH_EIRE If teh lawsuit is referring to using a input device over the panel, that translates to actions on the screen, then all our fingers are infringing this patent!! Also, I've seen many mobile games using a virtual joystick and a couple DS games that also have something like it (there is a Doom-alike game taht uses it. I will chesk it out).

Re: Brawlout Has Passed 50k Sales on the Switch

maceng

We need Shantae, Shovel Knight, Stardew Valley (for a bit of whimsical content), Citizens of Earth's Vicepresident, the duo from Snakepass, Yooka-Laylee, charcaters from the Steamworld Heist and Dig universe.

Re: Nintendo Has Reportedly Delayed the Roll-Out of 64GB Switch Game Cartridges

maceng

@thesilverbrick That would be against logic and against every single instance before it. Still, this is Nintendo we are talking about...

Jest aside, the Switch is having lots of success (which translates in prices going down to economics of volume) and Nintendo not lowering the price of 32GBs hurt both developers and gamers alike.

Re: Image & Form Will Be Bringing More Games To Switch Next Year

maceng

I'm expecting more games, but that have little to do with the Steamworld franchise.

They are quite successful, so it is time for them to take a bit of a leap and bring different games to the Switch.

I don't want to play Steamworld Fly or Steamworld Dive in the near future.

Same can be said about Yacht Games.

Re: Nintendo Switch is Still Number One in the Japanese Charts

maceng

@Savlep99 You got that right: it is a fun ride, specially if you are a Nintendo fan. I always read this report since I like to wrap my head around the fact that Nintendo, once again, could have the highest selling console for "this generation". I mean, it would surely outpace the Xbox One and, if it maintains momentum, the PS4 in 3 years, tops.

Re: Nintendo Switch is Still Number One in the Japanese Charts

maceng

@Savlep99 I think that, overall, we could consider 550k-650k units sold per week. 875k IMHO is just too high (Japan usually accounts for 25-33% of worldwide sales).

I'm an engineer so I like to make educated guesses and not give in much to fan (myself included) wild expectations.

But yes, the more the merrier.
