@Crono1973 You completely misread my post. First, selling 2 million on the Switch or in the Wii U is unimportant because what really matters is long time sales.
What I was trying to say is that, for Nintendo platforms, not a single game can save the console, be it Wii, WIi U or Switch. People were expecting that Mario World could have saved the Wii U, it didn't. The it was Mario Kart 8.., it didn't. Then some people even say that Splatoon could have saved the Wii U, had it come earlier in the life of the console. No, it couldn't have.
Also, I don't own a Switch, but I'm planning to get one by X-mas or in November, if my wife goes to Chicago for a convention.
@NintySnesMan I finished both. Dig was lslow at first. Loved the upgrades.
Heist got me hooked up from the beginning: collecting and selling stuff, unlocking stages and partners, etc. I liked Heist better than Dig. It is longer, also.
@jwfurness Nope. It has everything to do with storage cost. Still, by only gauging people interest, pre-orders and the such, they could have avoid all this drama.
#Some will say, not unreasonably, that as the Wii U iteration can't fully match the Switch version in visuals and performance it should be docked a point".
Sorry Thomas, but you are so wrong on thsi one. By saying "not unreasonably", its like saying that twh WiiU is at fault for not having garphics as good as the Switch.
IMHO, the Wii U version is better because it shows what can be done with the limited hardware while I feel that the Switch one could have been improved in some ways, but the console is just too young to tell.
@TheLobster He is using teh same parts contained on a dock, so he is like several SNES makers that use old parts of the original consoles. The only thing that Nintendo could balk at is the use of the logo and the name.
@Luna_110 Agreed. Multiplayer on the Switch will be king and I'll definitely drop the cash for the Switch if a game like Overwatch ever makes it to the console.
@Great_Gonzalez It's plausible. Several 3DSes games cost more (50 instad of 40) when they came out due to the fact that they used higher capacity cards (4GB instead of 2GB, I think).
Still, Nintendo should have envisaged this. The Switch is perceived to be more expensive and the games shouldn't be more expensive than their counterparts in other platforms.
Today I went to an express parcel service-like facility. They told me that not one single Switch has come thru their doors and they manage a lot of incoming deliveries into the country.
@Anti-Matter Hacks can be good/interesting like the Sony PSP exploit mentioned.
I remember that my first (hardware) hack was to an Atari controller in 1982. I rewire the fire button in space invaders, granting me a second laser shoot when moving, so it seemed like it was a double shoot! Then it was Kaboom and many others games that they were hacked.
Stopped at the DS because I thought that the 3DS was unhackable.
@DiscoGentleman First, quoting Wikipedia for a "legal" basis or court-ruling, or not-fair usage of an expression would not hold water, specially in Japan. Second, this is a company that obtained a legal name, under which I imagine (as a almost certain) that went thru a screening process and that all likelihood of Nintendo's beloved Mario Kart game was not seen or considered.
Still, yes, I might have blunder or over-assumed that such a expression, marika- , didn't apply to the Mario Kart franchise (specially since I was in Japan 20 years ago).
Anyhow, cheers! Just hope that Nintendo doesn't get his way. Japan's laws are very lax and usually take its own sweet time for rulings (I heard a case took 30 years for a conviction).
@markie7235 So the only way to strop it is to ban teh use of any costumes of Nintendo characters? This makes zero sense. Anyone can get injure wearing any other company's mascot-related costumes and is fine, but not Nintendo.
@dumedum Man, first of all, learn to break down paragraphs into sentences. It was a real ordeal to try to read what you just wrote.
You lost me when you wrote "Nintendo with its limited resources". They are sitting on a war chest of 5-6 billion dollars, in cash, first, and second, they just need to give Netflix or Amazon a couple of Switches, because they are the ones that do all the work.
@Pod Sorry, but you simply have no clue on how "early adopters" use their gaming consoles.
My kid keeps playing games on his PS4 but now and then I see him watching other people plays on Youtube, SuperGirl on Netflix or some mild anime on Crunchyroll.
People can concentrate on various things at the same time, you know.
It's a real shame although I feel that the reviewer was a bit harsh, comparing Golf and Tennis with their previous entries.
Nintendo could just leave it as it is or do the right thing and, first, make a patch that allows download play of at least Tennis (which is very good on the previous entry) and the Horse Riding for anyone interested to try, and second, produce some (free) DLC to compensate for the lack of stadiums and options in some of the games.
Have Nintendo just bundle the Horse Riding, Soccer and Baseball I'm really sure that the reviewer would have granted it a 7, at least.
@SanderEvers You simply don't have a grasp of how companies have their apps on any media device. Yes, Netflix and Amazon do make the apps, but Nintendo simply wouldn't be bother to ask them to put them on the Switch.
Having these apps absent on the Switch just hurt Nintendo and its fans, while depriving Nintendo of a revenue of sorts. My only hope is that a more robust eShop is in the works that allows you to buy movies to download to your Switch, along with a patch for HD functionality.
@KirbyTheVampire Sales and PR talk go hand in hand.
The issue is that, they are putting a twist on this Switch sales. Preorders where non-existent on the Wii days so it is not a fair comparison. Also, how many of these sales represent ebay and Amazon's resellers?
Still, I'm really glad that the Switch is selling so well and that many people outside the Nintendo bubble are talking about it. X-mas can't come soon enough!!
@Moon I think that the issue with the 3DS screen is that when closed, part of the lower screen "presses" on the upper, leaving some rather faint marks.
This is common for many electronics; still, since the Switch was such a step towards better crafting from Nintendo, is rather revealing.
I'm not buying a Switch until X-mas, but I do plan on stocking up on accessories (I'm an accessory freak, with dozens of cases, grips, styluses, speakers for the DS and the 3DS), with a least a joycon set, a case, a screen protector and a pro controller (and maybe an extra dock).
@YeshaYahu5417 They issued a statement saying taht, more or less, it is your fault as you have several appliances jamming the signal, plus a lot of stuff between the joycon and the switch.
@ironside1911 You got that right, regarding the 1, 2 Switch. Reading the review I was expecting a 4 and was really surprised to see they granted it a 6. But so did IGN, which have been too critical of Nintendo lately. But, for what I've read in both reviews a 4 or 5 seems fitting.
@ThanosReXXX Only a 25% improvement is nothing to sneeze at. It is the kind of improvement you see between processors of different generations, like between generation 4 and 6 (not 5) of the Intel i7, for example

Re: Exclusive: 'Operation Mario' Used to Plug Nintendo's Press Leaks Ahead of E3
Too much tongue-in-cheek writing for it to be true 0specially from Thomas).
The line that gave it away (besides the crummy pic of Mario plumbing) was: "...but no-one actively started stomping on turtles".
Plus Nintendo would have never addressed Metroid, not even internally.

Re: Deals: You've Gotta Catch All Of This Pokémon Merchandise
@Tempestryke Hye, the Pokemon tongs are very sexy. Imagine your GF using the Charmander one and u approaching from behind...
Re: Deals: You've Gotta Catch All Of This Pokémon Merchandise
The Bulbasaur tong is just too... frisky?
Re: Review: Waku Waku 7 (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)
@ieatdragonz It came out for the Wii U long before. Maybe the review applies to some degree.
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Has Almost One-To-One Attach Rate According To GameStop
@shani It won't have saved it. Period.
Even if it sold remarkably well, it will only have meant 2 million extra Wii Us, hardly important.
Analysis and many veterans said the same about Mario 3D World, Mario Kart and even Splatoon. Guess what? they didn't save the Wii U.
Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Has Almost One-To-One Attach Rate According To GameStop
I hope it means an special Zelda Switch coming by Black Friday bundled with the game.

Still no word on the NES classic.
Re: UK Survey Shows Enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch and Its Concept, But Pricing is a Factor
@Dezzy You are right but the price of components will definitely go down. So the memory will be cheaper, the screen will also go down in cost.

@EternalDragonX Not when it comes to processing and graphical power.
Well, except for the GameCube.

Nintendo suing in 1, 2 ..switch!!

@DiscoGentleman That's simply not true. I lived in Japan for 4 years and not once I heard such an abbreviation. Maybe MarioCar (in romaji, mario kaa).
The service, albeit a bit misleading, is perfectly within the realm of fair use.
