With SteamWorld Heist: Ultimate Edition blasting its way onto the Switch's eShop on 28th December, and with the incredible success of the wonderful SteamWorld Dig 2 that came to the console earlier this year, it's pretty safe to say that Image & Form had a pretty decent 2017. The future is looking just as welcoming, however, as the developer has now announced plans to bring more games to the Switch in 2018.
In a new video on their YouTube channel, CEO and Community Manager, Brjánn and Julius talk about what you can expect from SteamWorld Heist: Ultimate Edition when it launches very, very soon, and also talk about how the Switch has generated far more sales of SteamWorld Dig 2 than other console rivals, and even Steam, managed.
The charming video gets even more exciting, though, as the pair begin to discuss the possibility of bringing more Image & Form titles to the console in the future. The tower-defence, mobile game Anthill is one of the games shown in the video, possibly hinting at more news to come, and talk of "a few surprises" definitely piques our interest, too.
What would you like to see from Image & Form in 2018? Would you like to see older games be reborn on Switch such as the original SteamWorld Dig, or perhaps you'd like to see some entirely new franchises? Let us know your ideas in the comments below.

Steamworld Dig 2 is my favorite indie game of 2017.. behind Sonic Mania. I hope they will bring the original to the Switch soon.
Besides the original Dig, I’m not familiar with their back catalogue 😳
Hoping for a physical release for dig 2. Wasn't that confirmed at one point?
@RyanCraddock “peaks our interest”
I don’t really enjoy being “that guy”, but I’m pretty sure it’s “piques our interest”. I guess a bit of proofreading wouldn’t hurt this site...
This is the first I've heard of Steamworld Heist coming, and soon, woohoo! I'd like to see the original Steamworld Dig come to the Switch in 2018. A new game for sure but I doubt it'd be complete before 2019.
So Heist in a couple of weeks, I'll be downloading that day 1!
Personally getting a little tired of Steamworld. Would like to see what else they are capable of. They are great games, don’t get me wrong.
@clvr Have changed this now, cheers! Mistakes will always sneak through on the odd occasion.
@joey302 A DSi title called SteamWorld Tower Defense and a mobile game called Anthill. Most likely if they're pledging more support, we'll see a port of Steamworld Dig and/or a new title. Anthill isn't out of the question I suppose since it's on mobile already, but SteamWorld Tower Defense would probably need all brand new assets.
Dig 2 was a 9.5/10 for me and Heist was a 10/10. Happy it comes to Switch. Lets go Image & form bring all the games you want. I will be there for them all.
Image & Form are high quality.
@justin233 - I&F did a few experiences within the Steamworld universe, but several have different experiences. Not genuinely hard to make new themes in comparison to new experiences.
Plus it was a solid idea to exercise in order to get their name out there. Now they're forever tied to Steamworld as Mario is to Nintendo. And that series is looked at fondly. I'd say it's a win for them.
@RyanCraddock you’re welcome! Yeah I didn’t wanna sound harsh, I know stuff like this is bound to happen from time to time, it’s just I’m under the impression there have been more typos on this site than average lately.
@link3710 well the first SteamWorld would be a triple dip for me....but only when a nice sale hits. Also have to be cautious of a potential retail release like they did on PS4 and Wii U! The others I’m not familiar with as I don’t mess around with smart phone games. Maybe they’ll surprise us with a new IP?? Time will tell...happy holidays 😊
I'm not buying same games for Switch that i have already on 3DS, so if anything some new thank you.
Bring the games and I'll bring the credit card. I think I'll only double dip on Dig 1 though.
I need to get back and 100% Dig2 on Switch and finish up the Heist DLC on 3DS... then I'll wait for Heist 2.
I would be more tempted to buy a physical Dig/Heist cartridge.
I love these guys. The love for what they do shines bright in every pixel.
I need more Steamworld Dig, bring the first game to Switch and some DLC for the 2nd game or a 3rd brand new game and bring it in 2018, strike while the irons hot.
Good! Dig 1 was great. Heist was great. And I liked Dig 2 a lot more than I liked Metroid: Samus Returns.
Anthill is a really good game on ipad. Actually one of those rare few that made me believe that, if the app store had better crud filtering mechanisms, the ios platform could have reshaped console gaming forever.
They never got around to making sure the quality games bubbled up though, so here we are gaming with the best once more:)
Glad to hear it, I just bought Dig 2 on Switch yesterday. It's actually not surprising to hear that Dig 2 did so well on the Switch considering how well the first game did on the 3DS. Very excited for what ever else they'd consider bringing to the Switch.
I'm not seeing myself buying ports like Heist or potentially Dig 1 on Day 1, but down the line, once they are on sale, I'd be quite likely to double-dip eventually. Anything new is a no-brainer anyways ^^
@vincentgoodwin You're not the only one. Brian at IGN (and I think some more there) said the same thing. The MC score is also higher for Steamworld Dig 2 than for Samus Returns. But on Nintendo-biased sites like this one, the score is obviously the other way around.
Come on give some cartridges ... where is the dedication!?!
That can of Carlsberg on the shelf... Just, why?
I have the original Steamworld Dig on Wii U and 3DS but I don't feel like playing them on older systems. I'd gladly triple dip to have the chance to play on Switch.
@Biff_ARMStrong yeah between that and Little Nightmares, plus the myriad of things I haven’t played, indies had a nice year.
For honesty on this, I love steamworld dig but I haven't played Heist. I would love to see new content for steamworld dig. Whether that is DLC or steamworld dig 3 doesn't matter. Buying a game I already own on an older system does not interest me however.
Always up for anything they bring out!
My vote is for a Dig 1/2 compilation retail release.
Retail here would make me bite, as long as Dig 2 is on that cart obviously.
I already have completed Dig 1 and Heist as I downloaded them on Wii U.
Are they starting something fresh and new? No more steaming robots? We definitely need some good tower defence games on Switch, something as fun as Kingdom Rush.
Heist 2 please!!!!
I'd love SteamWorld Heist 2. Really enjoyed the 1st and have the physical version on the U. Some other genre's I'd be interested in would be a SteamWorld Race perhaps similar to mariokart on the SNES. Also, would love a RTS game that's not a tower defense
@Nincompoop I believe their very first game was a tower defense set in the Steamworld universe, so maybe they would!
I'll double dip on Heist. Not sure if I played the dlc on WiiU, so I'm fine with cashing out again just to play this gem.
@FinalFrog Supposedly? Wasn't enough to get me past my general disdain for tower defense games when I tried it, if you like them it should be good though.
I'll probably buy Steamworld Dig, again, if it is released on the Switch. But mostly I want a Heist 2!!
We need Steamworld Universe.
It's Dig-style gameplay, but you can freeze the gameplay at any time and switch to Heist-style gameplay.
Please tell me this will work.
I'm expecting more games, but that have little to do with the Steamworld franchise.
They are quite successful, so it is time for them to take a bit of a leap and bring different games to the Switch.
I don't want to play Steamworld Fly or Steamworld Dive in the near future.
Same can be said about Yacht Games.
Dear bots who made it safely after the world exploded and we were launched into space.
