Yesterday, we got a rather big surprise when My.Games released its popular free-to-play FPS Warface on the Switch. Interestingly, the game is actually the first Switch release to be powered by the CryEngine – or at least a heavily modified version of it.

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the company's head of global publishing Alexey Izotov explained how the developer saw the "lack of online shooters" on Nintendo's hybrid system as an advantage:

The lack of online shooters on Switch is a strong advantage for us. We know this market really well, so we saw an opportunity to bring our experience in the FPS genre to this growing platform.

He also noted how My.Games is one of the few companies that has had ongoing success with the free-to-play genre on console and explained how all three console platforms Warface was on would be updated simultaneously from here on out. Crossplay support is also being investigated:

We aim to launch the next big content update simultaneously for all three console platforms. After that, the crossplay feature is definitely something we are looking at.
