Warface Dev Sees The "Lack Of Online Shooters" On Switch As A Huge Opportunity

Whelp, good luck. From what I'm hearing, the game isn't too bad, just doesn't stand out much.

With a huge lack of CoD on the System this game has peaked my interest. It's been a while since I've played this style of game and free to play makes it that much more interesting. If it's really worth my time then I might even put money into it.

This game is another generic FPS, but honestly, it might be what the Switch needs right now. The Switch doesn't have many CoD like games, and what few we do have run terrible or have terrible online functionality. So an ok playing, decent working online, CoD like game is definitely something the Switch could use now. If the devs play their cards right this could be a big hit for Switch users to fill in that void that CoD has left open. Though they better capitalize on it quick, because once the game gets some good success you know Activision will be greasing their sleazy, hairy neanderthal caveman-like, greedy palms and get right onto making a switch port of whatever CoD project they got goin.

While I very much agree that Switch has a very notable lack of traditional FPS games, I despise the F2P style of game design. So I will still pass on this game.

This game will hopefully inspire other companies to port their FPS games to Switch.

It still has to compete with fortnite, but at least it is a less crowded environment while the big call of duty’s waste potential profit opportunities

With 80 million players, it must be doing something right. I'll try it out.

CryEngine looks pretty good

I just remembered Payday 2 dropped support on Switch and am glad someone is essentially picking up that ball.

I’d take Crysis on the Switch day one, if they can manage to get it off EA. Metro redux will do till then. And hopefully Bioshock soon after. But I’m really just waiting for TimeSplitters on the Switch.

This time i am playing COD modern warfare.
The difference is chaotic!!!

So now that we have CryEngine ported, can we have Crysis 3 now? Crysis 3 was planned for the Shield Android TV but disappeared, a sudden Switch appearance would be nice.

This game plays well, it is just kind of generic . It really just makes me want COD.

Im a big fan of FPS and third person aka call of duty and ghost recon kinda games.

Added to the library for sure, might take a bite later down the road, although what I've seen in the trailers doesn't immediately hook me. To this day first person shooters remain a lower priority genre in my book - to compete for my attention, one usually has to have either a strong sense of exploration (like Bioshock franchise or many an Arcane title) or a combo of a setting and plot I'm curious about (like Resistance Burning Skies). It says something that I cooled down towards the seemingly superior Killzone Mercenary in one mission (and after losing the card, never even got around to rebuying it on PS Store thus far) but ultimately beat all of Resistance Burning Skies campaign.

Then again, I gave Fortnite and Paladins' genres a go on Switch as well. Fortnite didn't hook me (and Realm Royale went to prove that it may not be my cup of tea overall), Paladins resonated enough to leave me spending a good while therein (too bad a good portion of it is spent in lobbies that can disperse even during the loading screen at times) even after Overwatch didn't. So I'm not ruling out anything. And for now, best of luck with the rest of the local audience to these folks!

PS. Yes, I know about Metro Redux, tried it on PS4 (Saints Row 4 bundle), was interested enough to grab a Steam version later, certainly planning to get and play it on Switch. Eventually, because in my eyes there's juicier stuff releasing in the close proximity.

With the upcoming Metro Redux and rumoured Bioshock collection, my FPS needs will definitely be catered for more than a F2P CoD clone can hope to achieve. Then when Doom Eternal hits the Switch there is no contest 😆

It's amazing how everyone compares the FPS genre on switch to "a cod gap needing to be filled". There are other FPS games out there other than CoD. Personally, I hope EA tells some truth in their plans to bring a portfolio of games to the console and possibly bring Battlefield 3 over A man can dream.

Steam reviews are quite mixed however the price of entry is right so worth a try. Nice to see a CryEngine game on switch, would be nice to get a Crysis collection which were great games (though I might be viewing them through rose tinted glasses)

Played this for a few hours today, the mode where you have to take/defend three points is rather good. It’s all pretty basic but the maps are solid, some good choke points and respawn points make sense - don’t often get shot in the back, unlike COD. Handheld doesn’t work very well but on a big tv with the pro controller it’s quite good fun.

COD is shorthand because, like it or not, its the biggest selling contemporary setting franchise. I too would like a contemporary setting Battlefield game but I'd be happier with something like SWAT4, Rainbow 6 or Ghost Recon (OK, technically TPS rather than FPS).

Tried it yesterday, and it's not nearly as bad of a game as some people on here make it seem. Sure, it's nothing stellar or epic, but for a free to play game, it's more than decent enough. The missions are fun, team-based play works well, and the graphics are also pretty decent, so seeing as there really isn't a very large catalog of these types of games, this one is pretty welcome, far as I'm concerned.

I have been playing this over the past 24 hours and while it is all well and good for what it is it really needs some kind of story other than the co-op missions with different difficulties for a game that is nearly 7 years old in terms of development it still seems very bare bones on what it has to offer in terms of content. Also the difficulty spike after a certain point is huge and definitely feels like you have to pay after that to be on an equal footing or just be stuck playing co-op missions on lowers difficulties.

I agree we need more quality FPS games as long as they are proper self contained games without micro-transactions. I have no issue with paid DLC as long as it presents a fair value. We need to get back to real games and stop encouraging publishers to milk the players.

Can we have Playtonic Games make a spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark please.

@BenAV This is not the kind that forces you to spend money like 90% of other F2P games.

i tried it for a little bit. not a big fan of the console controls, it takes too long to aim at what your shooting at. like fornite,by the time you get a good aim an opposing player will have already killed you and moved on. games like this are better with a mouse and keyboard in order to have more control of where the camera goes.

@Kalmaro That's why it's an opportunity: it doesn't need to stand out among other online military first person shooters: there hardly aren't any. As long as it isn't bad, it's among the best. F2P makes it very accessible as well, also playable online without NSO subscription, while the other option(s?) don't even have a demo.
