Re: The Detective Pikachu Movie Reviews Are In, And It's Actually Pretty Mixed

kensredemption

@Kalmaro They’re movie reviewers on YouTube and I frequent their channels to see what they think of upcoming movies.

Grace Randolph has worked as a movie critic for awhile and has the discerning perspective of the technical aspects of a movie and her attention to detail is superb.

Chris Stuckmann is a filmmaker himself and evaluates movies based on how aesthetically adept they are, indicated by his appreciation of cinematic classics like Psycho and 12 Angry Men.

Jeremy Jahns’ reviews are like listening to someone who was just in the audience who isn’t critical of what they just saw and was just looking to enjoy what they saw and his reactions are generally raw and unfiltered which could either generate legitimate hype for the movie or make it sound like a complete dud.

I trust their impressions more than I do the paid critics who couldn’t care less about how their opinions affect others’ decisions to go out and see the movies and, in this particular case, still treat video game adaptations as “the enemy” since, apparently, the film and video game industry are still at war.

Re: Feature: Forget Sonic, These Are the 10 Worst Video Game Movies Ever

kensredemption

Okay, no. I’ve seen every video game movie adaptation that was theatrically released, so I’ll clue you guys into what are REALLY the worst of the bunch.

10. Tekken
9. In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
8. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li
7. Hitman: Agent 45
6. Wing Commander
5. Silent Hill: Revelations
4. House of the Dead
3. Bloodrayne
2. Alone in the Dark
1. FarCry

Lackluster as adaptations usually are, most of them merit rewatches simply on the basis that they’re vaguely entertaining. All of the ones I’ve listed have all been one and done for me, they were so awful.

Re: Rumour: Multiple Online Listings Suggest Assassin’s Creed III Is Coming To Switch

kensredemption

As a long-time fan of the AC series (Since the first installment when I played on the 360), I’m ecstatic at the prospect of ACIII and Liberation coming to the Switch as they’re some of my favorite in the series - both lore and gameplay-wise. They really perfected the counter-attack maneuver in these two installments which made the unrelenting fights against guards and enemies a breeze compared to Altaïr’s and Ezio’s games and fast traveling required less time committing to the world economy and focused more on just exploring the world.

What worries me about this particular prospect, however, is that box art. While I thoroughly enjoy it, I’ve been using that picture as my iPhone wallpaper for years and I worry that someone just made up the box art to get a rise out of Switch owners and fans.

Don’t believe me? Here’s the link:

Re: New Study Suggests That Playing Violent Video Games Leads To Increased Physical Aggression

kensredemption

Okay, so I’m a human development major and one of the classes I need to take is research methods in psychology. That being said, I’m familiar with the way that the article for this study was written - it’s very deliberate and is supplemented with exhaustively researched statistics.

This isn’t a tabloid journalist’s article. This is empirical data, and well worth the read. My only critique about the study itself is that it gathered data based on reports without active observations of said behaviors taking place, but to be able to perform those kinds of observations would require constant supervision of individuals for any instances involving aggression - minor or otherwise - and with how small research teams can be: It’s just not feasible.

Other than that, this is definitely something to think about and not just toss aside as a gossip column.

Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

kensredemption

You know, if other companies would've been as straightforward as Lanning when it came to the difficulties of working with Nintendo regarding third-party support the animosity against them would've seemed less petty.

However, because this interview was conducted on a channel from an individual who has consistently endorsed Sony publicly (GameOverGreggy), I seriously have a hard time taking the context of any of this seriously. I don't really even know Lanning's works outside Oddworld, but if he has such an issue with Nintendo: He could just take his business elsewhere.

I used to want to see more games from third-party developers on Nintendo platforms because I wanted my gaming library to be consolidated on my platform of choice. These days, it seems even developers have embraced the Millenial mentality of entitlement and not having to work hard to make bank.

Rationalize the dialogue all you want. Gaming has become political and enabled whiny little runts to discriminate against a platform for nigh-legitimate reasons. This situation is no exception.

Re: It's Time to Claim Your Nintendo Account User ID for Nintendo Switch

kensredemption

...Uh, it may just be me, but I've been able to create a User ID for months. I was trying to get something on Miitomo once and when I tried logging into my Nintendo Account it forced me to use my email instead of my ID, which I already thought I claimed. Ended up tinkering with the Nintendo Account management site until I saw that tab and now I just use my ID to log in.

Re: Mass Effect Producer Says There's No Plan to Bring Mass Effect Andromeda to Switch

kensredemption

With the prospect of Mother 3 coming to the west, I'm not sure if I really care about Mass Effect at the moment...or even BioWare or EA, for that matter.

Inquisition was a colossal disappointment for me, since the "open-worldedness" of it was basically just to pad the length of the game for 20 hours, and the characters were drier than beef jerky.

All I'm saying is that it'd be refreshing to have an RPG with a profoundly entertaining and enticing story without lumping in all of the mechanics that should be going in an adventure game.

Re: Weirdness: PlayStation VR's 'Cinematic Mode' Works With Wii U, and Pretty Much Any HDMI Device

kensredemption

Hmm...so, it's probably feasible that I could just use the PSVR headset and never need to use a TV ever again.

...I might just get it for that reason. I'd love to just lie flat on my bed, Wii U Pro controller in hand and play Bayonetta, XenoX, Smash and Devil's Third through it. I may even hook up my XBO through it and play Halo, Titanfall or Tomb Raider. It may depend on the details I learn about the NX, however.

Re: Xbox One NES Emulator Passes Certification, Could Hit Console In The Next Few Days

kensredemption

Unless Nintendo has something to gain out of this: I'm just gonna cross my fingers and hope this gets taken down. The team responsible for the emulator seem like they're gloating about the fact that their project has gotten so far...unless, of course, this is some genius scheme to get people to download a "legitimate" emulator to track down who uses ROMs and where they get them from. I remember hearing recently that a lot of torrent sites were getting shut down or had warnings about torrents getting tracked and stuff, so who knows?

Re: Rhapsody is Now Available on the Wii U

kensredemption

I'm sure that the comments thread is already chock-full of neurotic whining and fanboying over Pandora, which is in my opinion a far inferior and barebones service, so here's my assessment of the Rhapsody service after I've started using it since last night.

First off, when I compared the interface of the Wii U's version of Rhapsody to the PS4's version of Spotify I found that the former is far, far, FAR superior in every way. For one, the gamepad is used strictly for finding music and navigating your library as well as playlists. I'm still getting used to using the game pad for navigating as searching for music is done strictly through the touch screen and the buttons are reserved for pausing, skipping and repeating tracks. Spotify on the PS4 requires that you strictly use the controller to navigate the app and type in what you're looking for. I don't know about you, but touch typing for me is far more convenient than D-Pad+Face-Button navigation.

Secondly, when comparing the songs and services offered by Rhapsody and Spotify there are some differences. Rhapsody can virtually match Spotify's music library track for track. I'm in the middle of recreating my 345-song playlist from my Spotify app and 100 songs in I've been able to find each and every song so far, but that's where the similarities end.

Spotify bests Rhapsody when it comes to free services as you can listen to what you wish with ads on the PS4, whereas with Rhapsody there's no accessing the service unless you have a subscription. Luckily, when you sign up for the Rhapsody service through the Wii U's app you'll get the free trial for a month and it'll be $9.99 per month afterward. Spotify, on the other hand, is free with ads but $12.99 afterward and with limited access if you're trying to share your account with others.

The mobile apps are a different story, of course, but for the sole purpose of this assessment I'm focusing on using each respecting app on their respective systems. The verdict?

Rhapsody on the Wii U trumps Spotify on the PS4.

Re: Rumour: EA And Nintendo Looking To Rekindle "Unprecedented Partnership" On NX

kensredemption

So...EA only partnered with Sony and Microsoft because they paid for advertising their games?

Looks like EA's in more dire straits than I thought. Either that, or they're just like a cheap date - paid to look pretty but in the end they score the free meal and publicity.

I would rather see BioWare's titles on the NX. Hell, maybe even a Sonic Dark Brotherhood remake for the platform.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th December (North America)

kensredemption

@crzysortagamer Right? I had all my Christmas shopping done when I got Xenoblade X and Devil's Third. The eShop is the last thing on my mind right now. The rest of the stuff I had to get was from department stores.

Addendum:

I'm starting to get the feeling that ALL the negative comments about NoA are coming from a collective of trolls who have nothing better to do than loiter on this site and jump on the bandwagon of hate just for the sake of saying it...and in Iwata-san's wake, no less.

Shame on all of you. Seriously. If you've been a fan of Nintendo for as long as you say you have, you'd at least be mature enough to have some sort of gratitude or patience for everything you're already getting. All I see here are a bunch of briny squiddies.

Re: Editorial: Gamers Remember and Celebrate Satoru Iwata in Their Own Special Way

kensredemption

@TwilightAngel People mourn at their own pace. I know some people are still upset about Robin Williams, Leonard Nimoy and Paul Walker passing. It's not anyone's place to judge others about how long they mourn - and that includes you. Do yourself a favor and just take a couple seconds to think about what you're going to type the next time you comment, type it out...

...and then delete it.

Re: Weirdness: North American Devil's Third Copies Sell for Silly Money on eBay Due to Stock Shortage

kensredemption

It's common knowledge on Miiverse that whoever talks trash about Devil's Third doesn't own it or never tried it.

I've played it every day since Friday, and I f***ing LOVE it. The gameplay is the smoothest I've ever experienced in action games since Bayonetta 2, and all this whining about aesthetics and broken gameplay online? Unfounded, childish and just plain bulls**t.

Frame rate does drop often in campaign but the only situation when it does is when the area is overloaded with explosions and mobs. That's it. The first time you notice this early in the game is during Mission 2 and that's during an even that was better served as part of a cut scene than anything.

What Devil's Third exhibitied, in regards to its gameplay, is an (un)holy matrimony (Unholy because, you know, DEVIL'S Third) between Itagaki's trademark action formula and third-person & first-person shooter formulas - and no, I'm not fanboying.

I'm still working through this week before I'm off from work for winter, but in the 8 hours I've played online the gameplay remains virtually flawless. One does not simply get a 24-8 KDR on a broken combat system, after all, and those kills were a mix between gun and sledgehammer (mostly) kills.

I'd go more in-depth, but I have to get more rounds in tonight.

Re: Video: Take a Look at the Famicom 3D System

kensredemption

@Kirk When I think of Virtual Reality, I think of something along the lines of The Matrix or Sword Art Online. Once gaming reaches that level of immersion, I'll consider VR has truly arrived. What Project Morpheus is can hardly be called VR. I've said this countless times before, but it's basically like wearing the Wii U gamepad over your face. The first-person immersion didn't take off for the Wii U, and it won't for the PS4, or any other platform at this point in time. Like (@Ogbert) said, spectating someone playing with a VR headset is a passive - and potentially cumbersome - experience, and at this point in time will most likely be a very expensive niche. Nothing against the potential of VR, but you'd think that Sony and Microsoft would learn from Nintendo's mistakes and try to get new gimmicks right the first time around. It makes me wonder just how they do the focus testing for new tech like this...

Re: Guide: Here's How To Make That Xenoblade Chronicles X USB Drive More Useful

kensredemption

@Crimzonlogic Maybe you should've watched an unboxing video before taking that risk. Many game developers are banking on impulsive consumers these days, and I was no different when I picked up my Juggernog Edition of Black Ops III.

Difference there was I never opened BOIII and I ripped open XCX mere seconds after I got it. Why? Because I knew what was in both, and I knew what I would like more. Sorry to hear the CE of XCX didn't float your boat, but if you feel like you wasted your money, you don't have anyone to blame but yourself.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Special Edition Owners in North America Highlight Issues With Soundtrack USB Drive

kensredemption

Funny how people just love to fixate on everything that goes wrong with Nintendo games and swag and blame it solely on Nintendo; As if Nintedo as a whole decides to deliberately inconvenience their fans.

News Flash: They're not the first company to do something like this, and just be glad that the DRM's on the flash drive rather than anything else. You people are whining so incessantly that I'd rather watch a Fox News Twitter feed thread develop than this...and THAT'S saying something.

In other news, has anyone managed to get their Skells yet? I haven't had much time to play XenoX, but by God it's beautiful.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th November (North America)

kensredemption

@Grumblevolcano It's Thanksgiving...we're gonna be spending more of our money on pies, cranberry sauce, turkey, potatoes, gravy, stuffing and decorations - maybe even plane tickets. Not to mention the fact that it's Black Friday tomorrow and people will either be buying clothes, shoes, fitness equipment, jewelry, musk/perfume, toys or more recent retail releases. Quit whining. Xenoblade X releases next Friday. You can wait one week for decent eShop releases.

Addendum:

If you wish to express an opinion do it without such vulgar language.

Addendum 2:

To the censor this concerns,

You're such a hypocrite for letting other vulgar, inflammatory and offensive opinions slip through these comment threads all over the site. Happy Thanksgiving, jerk.

By the by, I formatted your edit properly for you. You're welcome.
