@-wc-
Backwards compatibility means we have access to everything we own out of the gate on newer, better hardware.
This means that we have:
-No means for ports that have already existed
-Improved visuals/Frame Rates on prior titles
-A lot of money saved especially if our current Switches die (mine is going to be 8 years old and... it sounds 8 years old)
-Consolidation on one device: Switch is already my favorite console of all-time because of the vast library from past to present it had. Now it can expand even further on one device with new games and other ports (GTAV for instance).
Welp considering the lack of music at launch... I will listen to DKC in its entirety, repeatedly, until we get more insta classics. Give us all the Rare music please!!
@Anachronism Have you not played or watched people start the game yet? You basically get 50-60 packs for free from missions when you start a new account. I have two accounts I have made thus far, both with over 400 cards each after only a handful of days playing. All free to play.
@TheMegaMarshtomp I agree with this 100%. GameFreak is capable. They just need to put more care into their mainline games akin to how Arceus looks and feels. Arceus is an amazing jumping off point. Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield are not.
Thanks goodness Arceus came out before this game. Otherwise I would have written off this franchise after this Scarlet and Violet generation. They really need to utilize the Game Freak team that handled Arceus moving forward.
@TanookiLeaf Yeah that game looks bad, but I bought it. It's a very charming game that I'm enjoying playing. I actually encourage anyone who likes a good mystery game to pick it up. The Pokemon voice acting is pretty awesome too!
This is awesome! Consolidation is best for competition and overall quality of goods made. Hopefully Microsoft acquires Nintendo next so that we can finally have better games on the Switch or Switch 2.
Excited to try this out! Miss the old NFL Street games and I hope this scratches that itch. The roster seems pretty great as well. Hopefully it's a delightful game that everyone can enjoy!
@nessisonett I completely agree with your excitement on this! So stoked that this is going to be on the Switch. My favorite game from the Hitman series and easily in my top 10 games of all time.
How is the voice acting for all Pokemon not one of the "Joys" of the game?! It's one of the main things I'm looking forward to! I really wish we would finally get Pokemon voice acting in the mainline games.
Very excited for this game though! Should blow Scarlet and Violet out of the water enjoyment wise haha.
@Darkred401 it’s not really an improvement so much as it is an extension. There are no true improvements made. Same terrible game engine and lacking anything of worth playing outside of the story. Arceus is still the infinitely superior Pokemon game.
@Arawn93 It lacks spirit - one of the greatest things about Pokemon is the music. Where the hell is the music in this game beginning with the loading screen?! No intro video?! It's like they forgot who they are.
Zelda does a much better job with music at this point. I have actually described the newest Zelda game as the best Pokemon game I have ever played haha.
Gross - if I was GameFreak I would keep releasing half-baked unfinished games. No reason to stop at this point.
Gold and Silver were perfect sequels with amazing post-game content that still hasn't been matched by any other game series to this date.
Scarlet & Violet is basically trash. Zero innovation with ideas removed from Arceus, a lackluster online experience living in the stone age, and performance issues up the wazzoo. The biggest shame of S/V is that the new Pokemon they introduced are actually really awesome. But the game doesn't even come close to doing this IP justice.
I hope in the video that's supposed to drop tomorrow it's immediately cutoff by Fry exclaiming "Shut up and take my money!"
I still find it crazy that that line wasn't until after the show was revived by Comedy Central. This show's entire history over the course of 24 years has been absolutely insane. I hope it's finally here to stay. All glory to the hypnotoad. It's finally time to reinforce Brannigan's Law.
Aw yes 2003 - I was 15 at the time and I talked myself into getting these as Pokemon was a children's game. This was the last entry I played until 13 years later a mobile game roped me back into the franchise.
Since Pokemon Go's release, I have bought up every new entry into the Pokemon game library that has dropped on the Switch. My warning at this time is harkened back to my time with Ruby and Sapphire however - my level of interest in the games due to the crudely released Scarlet and Violet may send me packing once again.
My new favorite Pokemon game at this juncture though is Legends Arceus.
@nhSnork I'm the same. I have double and triple dipped on games just to have them as part of my massive library on the Switch. The Switch is my ultimate gaming platform at this point. My PC is primarily used for competitive gaming only. My new fancy PS5 has been collecting dust for some time now sadly.
The reason the Switch has been so successful has been games. It's destroying any competitor right now due to an amazing game. Nintendo has no incentive to throw out a new console generation if its current console is still kicking every other competitor's peaches.
Question is, how long will it take Sony and Microsoft to change course? If they both intend to be just 3rd party machines solely then it's only a matter of time before they will no longer be producing consoles.
Pokemon is done. Wake me up when this property is in better hands. What's crazy is Pokemon has had so much potential to be a crazy awesome experience in a video game and they have trailed so hard behind all other developers that Zelda is by far and away a better experience than we may ever get with Pokemon.
Hopefully big changes take place soon. I'm very hesitant to consider getting the Pokemon DLC when it launches primarily because it has been 6 months and no true improvements have been made to performance. Meanwhile, Zelda has been out for a week and already had two meaningful patches.
@nintendolife Why can't we have a choice higher than 10?
BotW was a 10... no doubt. But this game is something else entirely. It's only been a week that this game has been out but it is without a doubt the greatest game I have ever played. For me, it gets a score at least double of BotW. The sheer amount of changes and content thrown into this game is astounding. This game is an accomplishment for the ages and sets a new standard for what a AAA title should be.
We are once again in the midst of a golden age of video games. I reminisce in the days of the 90's and 00's of the classics I played. But we are officially in rarified air once again... and I'm breathing it all in.
@aaronsullivan I'm in the same boat... I was hesitant to buy Jedi Survivor because of its release window only. I knew that even without watching any trailers of TotK that I would be more involved in that game over JS.
Both great games in their own right... but man does TotK just bring things up to a completely different level.
I honestly don't get the "It's BotW dlc" criticism.
It makes the most sense to have a sequel set in the already established Hyrule so why make a completely new map? And besides that, the ability additions are stupid incredible, the map is extremely changed for POI's with so much more packed in, and there are two additional maps to explore much less other areas outside of the normal Hyrule map.
This game feels like it has more than twice the amount of content BotW did with a creative kicker thrown into the mix. For a game that's set in a defined world, this is a definitive example of how to make a proper sequel. Probably going to be playing BotW and TotK for the rest of my life.
Absolutely well deserved. This game is a masterpiece and a perfect example of listening to your community and packing so much detail into an extremely vast world to create and explore in.
Anyone involved with other AAA games (especially Pokemon) should take note that this is how you make games. Nintendo is absolutely killing it with seemingly no signs of slowing down.
Meanwhile my new shiny Xbox and PS are collecting dust due to lack of any games.
Again... the Switch can run the current version of Unreal Engine... it can run anything else with proper optimization. Some dev's are just very lazy/greedy is all.
@ChromaticDracula This game is a disgrace especially since the vastly superior Arceus came out 10 months prior to this release. Wake me up when they make a game on equal or better footing than Arceus cause at this point their level of care is abysmal.
I heard about this over the weekend but wasn't sure if it's true.
It will be very interesting to see how the Pokemon Company handles this. I doubt it will lead to reprints but anything is possible. My wife and I got back into collecting cards during the SwSh era and absolutely love some of the artwork as of the late. In fact, there's a big reason both the Umbreon and Rayquaza shown above are so highly valued - their art is exceptional.
The new Scarlet & Violet sets are off to a great start as well. It's definitely been a fun albeit expensive hobby for us lately.
If the T239 is definitively what will be used for the next Switch then we are all in for a treat!! PS4 Pro power in the palms of my hands would be incredible.

@SplatRay001 Seriously?? oof... hopefully they add those down the road too. Overall, this is a very lackluster launch.

Re: Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket Surpasses Six Million Pre-Registrations
The crazy thing is seeing the massive influx of New Zealand residents in the past month just to play this game ahead of launch... myself included.
Re: The Pokémon Company Outlines Fixes For Scarlet & Violet's Next Update
@TheMegaMarshtomp I agree with this 100%. GameFreak is capable. They just need to put more care into their mainline games akin to how Arceus looks and feels. Arceus is an amazing jumping off point. Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield are not.

Also, I'm being completely sarcastic.
Re: Japanese Charts: Detective Pikachu Cleans Up For His Switch Debut
@Axecon I can get behind this sentiment for sure.
Re: Japanese Charts: Detective Pikachu Cleans Up For His Switch Debut
@westman98 I bought the exclusive card through Ebay and the game in the US. Enjoying the game quite a bit!! It's so incredibly charming.
Re: Review: Wild Card Football - An Ambitious Take On Gridiron Lacking A Full Deck
NFL Street 2 was peek - still hoping for a full reboot of that franchise or a port (I assume a port would be impossible).

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - The Teal Mask Are In
@Wolfleaf This. Arceus was exciting and fun. The Tera raid battles are just boring rehashes of the raids in Sword and Shield.

But also... no Tinkatink?? Don't care.
Re: Random: Chicago Bulls Announce Upcoming NBA Schedule With A Classic Pokémon Tribute
That's it... I'm rooting for the Bulls.
Re: Nintendo Shows Off Pokémon Scarlet And Violet DLC "Partner Pokémon"
@UmbreonsPapa Correct - and you can transfer him into the game already through Pokemon Home.
Re: Pokémon Company's COO Addresses Issue Between Release Schedule And Game Quality
Just give the reigns of mainline Pokemon games to the LoZ team already. And outsource the online experience to another company like Bandai/Namco.
In fact, forget it... just hire Bandai/Namco for the entire thing.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Has Now Sold Over 22 Million Copies, Closing In On Gold & Silver's Sales
@JONOFTHEJONS No they're kinda trash. I recommend sticking with Arceus until GameFreak gets their **** together.
Imagine if GameFreak made a Pokemon game that looked half as beautiful as the two games Bandai have made (Pokken and Snap).
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Has Now Sold Over 22 Million Copies, Closing In On Gold & Silver's Sales

Re: Futurama Crashes Into Fortnite Today
@NintendoByNature I'm very biased on this one... I think it's the far superior show to the Simpsons.
Re: Futurama Crashes Into Fortnite Today
@Diowine Hopefully next time... with a well fashioned and perfectly minted velour captain suit.
Re: Futurama Crashes Into Fortnite Today
@kal_el_07241 This is perfect... The alternate dimension versions, the gold violin, Planet Express, Nibler, Zoidberg's Scuttle hahaha
I'm excited for this crossover! Also, first new episode had me in stitches yesterday.

@johnedwin so a roughly 10% of the install base buying a game at launch isn't impressive enough? Ok
My intrigue with this game will be its legs. I can see this being the second best selling game on the Switch behind Mario Kart 8.
