Re: Nintendo Reveals The Most Popular Games In Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics

jbrodack

It's got some flaws, weird design decisions, and throwaway games, but still has a lot of great content with excellent presentation.

I learned mancala, backgammon, and hanafuda through this and really enjoying them. The game made it easy to learn with assists and reference for hanafuda being very helpful.

I'd just like to see some games filled out more like golf could have had more holes, slot cars more tracks, team tanks more levels.

Re: Review: Mutant Football League: Dynasty Edition - Throwing Out The Rulebook Results In A Frustrating Game Of Gridiron

I disagree with the review too. I wish the graphics were sharper but it's a lot of fun. The dirty tricks add strategy as they are limited. So even though you can rewind time you have to pick the best situation to use it and your opponent is doing the same with their dirty tricks. There's a back and forth going on. The obstacles on field are easily avoidable if you watch out for them but are a nice touch.

The game still feels like football but there's enough action elements to keep it fun if you're tired of sports games.

Re: Feature: Digital vs Physical - What Is Your Preference for Nintendo Switch?

jbrodack

You don't even get a short booklet these days with carts unless it's some collectors edition. I wish more games had manuals.

Price is a factor. Some games are more expensive physical but many end up a lower price. Mutant Football league physically was $20 for the cart for me vs $30 digital and had some extra teams with the cart. However, some digital are cheaper and you get more points for digital.

Convienence is another. I like being able to scroll through my games list and choose a game without having to get up and switch carts.

Storage is important too. If it's a big game might be worth saving some space on my sd and getting the cart. However, games under a gig can seem like a waste of a cart.

My switch collection is pretty split. I look at the option on a game by game basis.

Re: Review: Go Vacation (Switch)

It's a surprisingly good game. Some cheesy music and presentation but there's so much to do with many of the 50 activities having multiple modes. Plus the whole open world and exploration aspect. A great game to chill with single player in between more intense games. I'd imagine it's fun multilayer too.

Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Want More Games When We've Already Got Too Many?

jbrodack

Interesting article. I've definitely gotten to where I have a huge backlog of games but still look at new game. I guess it's a fear of missing out on a really great gaming experience.

But I really don't get the people that still say switch doesn't have enough games. Yeah there are a lot of ports but there's gotta still be tons of great games you haven't played yet. The eshop has really been growing.

Re: Fortnite On Nintendo Switch Doesn't Have Save The World Mode

@shani

Save the world may be the original and planned main mode of the game but battle royale is the one people are playing. Save the world was launched as paid early access and is still being developed.

I'm not a fan of crafting and survival games so only getting the battle royale mode is fine by me.

I'd recommend this over quest of dungeons. It's cheaper and a more unique experience. I have quest of dungeons for pc and it feels like it's missing something. Maybe a hunger system. It's not bad just feels standard. The different yokai and the limited inventory on top of traditional roguelike systems makes this stand out.

Re: Review: 60 Seconds! (Switch eShop)

I'd say your experience with this could vary wildly. The only complaint I have is that I'd like to have some sort of action sections or something during the survival section as it can feel a bit monotonous after playing a long session.

But, the game is fun in short bursts. You can play just the scavenge or survival sections to get better at them. The random nature of the game makes it very repayable. You learn what to look out for but you're not usually going to be in the same exact situation again.

The game wouldn't run on my computer for a while some reason so I'm glad it came out for switch. The way the scavenging and survival sections work together is clever and some of the situations your family can get into are entertaining.

Re: Feature: Memorable Games of 2017 - ARMS

jbrodack

People seem a bit divided on Arms but I love it. For me it stood out as a reason to get a switch. A lot of other Nintendo releases for switch have been either versions of wii u games or part of established franchises. This is a whole new experience, is original, and a lot of fun.

Re: Review: Pinball FX3 (Switch eShop)

Some issues but a great game overall. Besides performance issues I'd like to see the menus work with with the joycon when in vertical mode. Also I can't seem to play with just one joycon if the joycons are detached and I'm playing portably.

Re: Review: DOOM (Switch)

jbrodack

If you compare the ports games used to get on weaker hardware to this its really impressive. Watch the digital foundry video on the original doom ports and compare to this.

In the old ports levels were altered, music changed, gameplay changed, much slower frame rate, and even whole different engines used. Even going to wii and wii u ports many things would have to be changed.

This is the exact same game with a lower but still smooth frame rate and reduced graphical effects. That's impressive and great for anyone who wants an alternate way to play doom or doesn't own the game yet.

Re: Review: NeuroVoider (Switch eShop)

This seems to have a more in depth loot system than most similar games. Most of my currency earned has been from selling loot. You can upgrade loot and even generate random loot for a price. You can change classes midgame if you have a full set of loot for that class.

It makes the time between levels really interesting. Most games like this you're only given a few choices of loot to pick up but this is closer to a full rpg loot system.

It's a really solid game and cheaper than binding of isaac.

Re: Review: Strikers 1945 (Switch eShop)

jbrodack

I'd like tate mode to work with the joy cons docked. Ideally you should be able to play in tate with just one joy con. Right now you're forced to use both while they are connected. I don't know if I'm the only one that wanted to be able to play like this.

Re: Review: Slime-san (Switch eShop)

jbrodack

Definitely a quality game with lots of content and options. The game would have still been fun without all the extras but they really make the game world come alive and make the experience more personalized. Great game to play for a couple minutes on the go but can suck you in.

A few issues but they're being worked on.

Re: Feature: NES Mini Classics - Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

jbrodack

One of my favorite games. Most early zelda games had obscure puzzles too. I'm not big into zelda since I didn't have zelda on Nintendo when I was young. This was my zelda.

It has its flaws but does a lot right. Nice graphics and classic music. The day night cycle was unique and gave it more of a horror atmosphere at night. The castles were exciting and tough. Upgrades were a lot of fun and really felt earned. Figuring out a puzzle without a guide and getting to a new area felt awesome.

But, many puzzles are practically impossible without a guide and boss fights are mostly nothing special. Some travel felt tedious and having to use passwords was annoying.

It has its flaws but for me its strengths outweigh its weaknesses. A modern remake would be awesome.
