Earlier today Nintendo of Europe launched its Halloween sale and, although there are some decent options, we'd suggest it lacked many knockout deals. Nintendo of America hasn't branded a range of discounts in the same way, but did publish a News post on the Switch with some rad artwork.
The article is pointing users to the 'Games on Sale' category in the eShop that was added just over a week ago, and the list of games has been updated to match up with quite a few of those European Switch 'Halloween' discounts. A couple of these deals have been around for longer while a number are new, so below is the full current list of discounts on the North American Switch eShop (US prices).
- Axiom Verge - $17.99 (normally $19.99)
- Butcher - $7.99 (normally $9.99)
- Thimbleweed Park - $16.00 (normally $19.99
- Lichtspeer: Double Speer Edition - $7.99 (normally $9.99)
- Phantom Trigger - $7.49 (normally $14.99)
- Cave Story+ - $26.99 (normally $29.99)
- Snake Pass - $9.99 (normally $19.99)
- Shovel Knight - Specter of Torment - $7.99 (normally $9.99)
- Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - $19.99 (normally $24.99)
- Tumblestone - $11.99 (normally $14.99)
- Astro Bears Party - $3.99 (normally $4.99)
- Vaccine - $6.99 (normally $9.99)
- Graceful Explosion Machine - $10.29 (normally $12.99)
The Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove discount is also the same on 3DS and Wii U.
A handful of other discounts available on 3DS and Wii U in Europe as part of the Halloween deals have also filtered across to North America, albeit not all of them. Nintendo of America may yet kick off a formal Halloween promotion, of course, time will tell.
Are any of you tempted by the current Switch eShop discounts?

Still haven't picked up Shovel Knight on Switch so maybe that.
Nintendo still doesn't know what a sale is though
Tempted by Snake Pass, but I’ll likely wait still. Mario is only a few days away and it’d likely go unplayed for a while and eventually forgotten. Also waiting for Explosion Machine to be 50% off.
These sales are pretty wimpy, but better than nothing I guess.
Really decent discount on Phantom Trigger. Might also pick up Thimbleweed Park. Still not terribly interested in the snake game, though.
I wouldn’t really call this a “sale”...
I've only heard of this game as per this sale, but Astro Bears looks TERRIFYING. Happy Halloween indeed.
Switch is selling great, indies, by all accounts, are doing fantastic on a thriving Nintendo eShop. There is no big urgency or need for massive, deep discounts on quality games that are selling anyway, so just appreciate the chance to get a few games on your wishlist for a touch cheaper.
Woo. $2 off. How exciting.
I was hoping that slime game would hit 5 bucks and if axiom hits 10 im grabbing it too. Nothing here is a good enough discount for me though. Maybe next time.
@IceClimbers I've played all the campaigns 4 times. If you liked platformers as a kid, you'll love Shovel Knight. Weirdly reminds me of Megaman the most. The stories are funny and sweet too!
Better than nothing. The $2 saved may be just enough to nab Poker, Dice, Shooty Duck: REMASTERED when it hits the eShop.
Nothing to get excited to be honest 😕 Hope the eshop sales in the future improves.
Time to jump on Phantom Trigger, methinks.
I almost want to double dip on treasure trove, but I have so many other new games to buy..... good time to be a gamer.
I'll probably get suckered into buying Shovel Knight again on Switch. I love the idea of being able to play that game anywhere...
So, which sale is better America or Europe
Kiddie sale - because of the mostly tiny discounts
Good time for a sale, probably more than a few Switch will be sold this weekend, mostly on Friday. It will be good for new people to the console to be able to turn it on, go on the eShop, and see a few games to pick. Most of them are 10% or 20% off, may only be a $1 or 2 but it's still 10-20% off.
And come on, it's a freakin' Halloween sale. Nobody cares about Halloween sales, Halloween is all about the candy. Have to have a limited sale now as Black Friday is in 6 weeks, have to save the good sales for then. And maybe Christmas week. If those sales are lame too, well then that's another story, but any sale for Halloween is still a sale, it doesn't have to be earth shattering, it's Halloween. Go spend your money on spirits instead. Spirits, get it. b/c Halloween.
Steam sales put this to shame...or any sale for that matter.
Still, if you're planning to get some of these anyway it's not a bad time to take the leap.
A couple dollars off is not a sale
Boo! Pun intended.
Few comments, if interested:
Axiom Verge: Yeah, but, that physical collector's edition is coming!
Butcher: Can anyone recommend? Looked too muddy to me.
Thimbleweed Park: The-cursor-without-a-mouse action really put me off while playing it. Wish they'd have used motion control/joycons for clicking around. I didn't like how it felt, but at the same time I don't think it feels bad.
Lichtspeer: Double Speer Edition - Fun but forgettable
Phantom Trigger: Not very good - my one big eShop regret
Tumblestone - Heard this was actually really great despite the shovelware looking art direction.
Graceful Explosion Machine - Everybody buy this! Had a fuggin' blast playing this game. One of the most fun/addicted until completion experiences I've had playing a game. The dude who created the custom engine for it seems like a total angel too.
@Mando44646 I think the idea with some of these sales is that people, in theory, would grab a few games they might have been thinking on, and then basically have gotten one of them for free, as it adds up. Like a retailer doing a buy two get one free. But only 2 bucks off of an over $15 is stupid, unless it's just been released.
@jwfurness @justin233 Phantom Trigger is honestly not worth it. Use that cash on anything else. Watch a little of a let's play and you'll see. It's like, if someone made a song, you loved the first three notes, but then it just holds those notes thru the rest of the song. You'd quickly hate it.
Really, Snake Pass, Shovel Knight and Phantom Trigger (but I don't hear good things about it) are the only ones with worthwhile savings. For any of the others, you might as well say you're getting your state tax for free.
Dudes, a small discount is still a discount. Not sure why anyone is upset.
Might get snake pass and will definitely get butcher.
Not the best sale but it's something.
Shovel knight treasure trove is the only one that appeals to me so far, but I already have it on the wii u and 3ds so I’m not sure if I want to triple dip
Meh... rather play Hobs before playing 19.99 for Shovel Knight
Have a combo right now of SineMoraEX and Pankapu that can take me till Mario.
Phantom Trigger is the standout deal on that list. I picked this up on release and really enjoyed it. However, the combat is pretty hard and very repetitive.
@thesilverbrick If you own any playstation products, you can get 3 versions for the same price of $19.99 with cross buy instead of just the switch version. Purchasing this content entitles you to the PS4™, PS3™ and PS Vita versions!
Hm. Well Thimbleweed Park is now priced just low enough for me to purchase without having to upload any more eshop funds.
@Dang69 I was talking about Snake Pass. I’d never buy Phantom Trigger.
@IceClimbers
If you haven't already, definitely grab Shovel Knight if you are interested... I have it on WiiU and it is packed with value and another free DLC campaign is forthcoming... I would absolutely re-buy it on Switch for the sale price, but I will wait for the hopeful physical release with all of the DLC on it.
You can call it anything but a sale!! 3$ off for a 30$ Game? Meh..
@Dang69 Funny, only one of the games has a $2.00 discount and is priced over $15 and guess what...It's a newer release.
I would say this is the first official big Switch eshop sale. Might go for Phantom Trigger as it’s the only one that’s 1/2 off besides snake pass which I already own. The others I will wait longer.
@Axlroselm Way to cherry pick..I can do that too...Wow 50% OFF...now that's a sale!
At least this stops you Yanks complaining you didn't get a "sale!"
We all know that snake pass is the SpOOkiest game
I may have to finally give Phantom Trigger a go. I've had my eye on it since it came out on Switch.
Darksiders Warmastered (Wii U) is $7.99. Maaaan I just bought that at retail like a month ago.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is still full price. Gaaaaw, I guess I'm just going to have to pay full price then. You suck NOA. Not releasing a physical version of this game and never discounting the game on the eShop.
..sale?...is this a trick or treat?
@mowerdude That's good to know, but I don't own any Sony consoles at the moment.
I don't get why people are so mad with the discounts here.... The Switch is still new (in relative terms) and selling like hot-cakes. The fact that we get any sales at all in year one seems like a good deal to me. $2-3 here and there for a great game is still a great deal. I know I personally skipped Butcher a few weeks ago when it came out and wanted it so $2 sounds like a good deal to me!
@Fooligan
I came here hoping to see a Halloween discount for Fatal Frame Wii U myself. Full price for a download game that I would much rather have on a disc... but I know I will kick myself as soon as Nintendo shuts down the eShop, so full price it is I guess.
Snake Pass may be worth it. The others not so much.
@IceClimbers Agreed, except that even at the discounted price, I just can't triple-dip on Shovel Knight (have it on 3DS and Wii U). Heck, I can't even buy Cave Story + at the current discount it's at either.
finally gave into Axium And Bulb boy but no time to play them the discount was too appealing
Of COURSE they didn't discount Fatal Frame like the European sale...
I JUST WANT TO PLAY IT FOR A REASONABLE PRICE WHY YOU DO THIS.
@IceClimbers The publisher determines how when and how much to put their game on sale for.Nintendo does need to put a few of their own games on sale though.
Less of a sale, and more like you just don't notice the sales tax. I will say this though, I HATE how games get so devalued SO fast on so many platforms. I bought RedOut on release for 40 bux for PS4 (i think it's the same price for Switch..?) but less than a month later it's now 19.99 at retail. Same for WipeOut Omega Collection, same with so many games, it makes it not worth buying around release time. I mean I get that they drop the cost immediately sometimes to make more people available to play online, but RedOut for PS4 still has like no people playing... anyone have it for the switch? How is the online? Games too hard anyway and I can't even unlock the first cup :/ it's my favorite game genre and the company can't even throw us a bone to have at LEAST all or most tracks unlocked at least for time trials!? I just want to experience all the tracks. I know, wah wah wah. but i work hard for my money and hate seeing it wasted in shoddy game development.
I have been looking for an excuse to pick up Shovel Knight again on Switch this time. 20% off is better than nothing. Axiom Verge is amazing, but I already own it on PS4. I might double dip if the price is cut in half.
The only good sale is Snake Pass, which I've already got but it was worth it.
No Fatal Frame sale?
Not interested in anything honestly but I'm still hyped for Mario Odyssey in a couple days so maybe that's why. 🤗
Those are some miserable sales, but for Nintendo I'll take the baby steps.
@EternalDragonX right there with you, I own all the games up there worth a damn besides axiom(which I will be getting retail) and snake pass which at half off is mighty tempting! But I do recommend phantom trigger at that price point. I got it when it first came out and while I enjoyed it, I would of felt more satisfied at that price then 15. At least Nintendo is trying hopefully we get a better Christmas sale!
Thimbleweed Park is 16.99 not $16.
I already have Thimbleweed Park which I find very good.
I’m tented by Graceful explosion machine. Maybe I’m gonna read some more reviews before buying it (or not).
Nintendo's eShop always has the most impressive sales!
Discounts galore and periodic flash sales to encourage customers to keep checking in!
Oh... oh, right, that's the PlayStation Store.
@Amsterdamsters Yeah exactly - I wasn't having a problem with the sale at all.
@Dang69 Thanks for the heads up. Won't be fooled this time.
I just purchased Butcher. Pretty awesome game! Just wish I could change the controls on the game but oh well not a huge deal.
