Looks really good but the unlockables system actually sounds kinda boring for this. Still, looks like there is a lot of variety in the gameplay and I'm looking forward to its release.
If dj hero came out a while ago people would have been more excited about it. However, a lot of people are just tired of these types of music games now. I like the more creative music games like parappa, bit.trip, otocky, lets tap, rez, rhythm tengoku, and stuff like that.
Could be cool, wondering how well it will control. Would also be nice if it was enhanced in some way like at least graphics. An online mode would be killer too.
Eternity child was released for PC a while back and was a disaster. The wiiware version was supposed to be the good version of that game but I guess trying to make something out of the flawed PC release has been a bit much for the developers of that version. Though it seems luc has been making out those devs to be bad. That leaves one fairly well received iphone game for us to go on. And maybe the iphone game he just finished up. So we know he can put out iphone games. Seems it might be best to just stick with the iphone games for him. Instead he's trying a really ambitious console game and a "controversial" game. He really should try to get something together with the current developers of wiiware eternity child so they can get done as a team effort instead of being "out of his hands" In any case a well brought together wiiware release should be his first order of concern just so games know he can get (hopefully) good games out there.
Anyway this little press release did nothing good for him as pretty much everyone has trouble getting excited about somethign from someone whos games often either don't get released or do horribly. Now people are having an even more negative opinion of the guy and his games.
You should have asked them about the online glitch in the first one. Anyway, does look good and hope it comes out without any glitches or large flaws. Also, really want to hear about animales as that's probably the most original title they've worked on.
Nice list though andro dunos and zeb blade aren't that great. Some of the others are quite good and I agree about last resort being underrated. Twinkle star sprites is one of the most unique games I've ever seen. I'd love to be able to play it online. Maybe a wiiware remake or something.
The bit.trip games are all awesome though I still haven't beaten even one of them yet. They are all definitely worth the 600 points though as you will replay the hell out of them. This looks cool though I've seen some people call this a rip off of canabalt. This is more structured and has some basis in rhythm. Its similar but stands on its own.
I don't know why nintendo doesn't like little updates or patches. Maybe because they don't have a good system in place to support it. Anyway, hope konami has some more rebirth titles in store for us. They are a great blend of retro and modern sensibilities.
Most of you people aren't familiar with IGF awards so are confused. AFAIK all the entries are submitted to IGF directly and so nominations are only based on those entries. Which is why no Cave Story. Also, games that aren't released are nominated all the time since developers can still submit private builds to the IGF. They aren't nominating just on hype they actually were able to play the games.
So is xbla getting online play and we aren't? Doesn't sound good to me. Still looking forward to the game though my excitement is dampened a bit by this announcement.
Seems those that think call of duty is mature gaming done right on the wii prefer inferior ports to uniquely designed wii titles.
Overall, publishers like sega need to realize that games like madworld are niche titles that need to be marketed uniquely. They could learn from other niche publishers like atlus. Aim for a smaller audience first then if successful start to target a more mainstream crowd.
Anyway, I buy what I think will offer me a fun and unique experience regardless of rating (age or metacritc).
How about the publishers try to put some mature titles on wiiware? People have said that some of the titles especially madworld are too "quirky" for mainstream audiences. If they focused on niche or mature titles for wiiware they wouldn't be taking nearly the risk of retail titles. Also, because I can only think of one M rated wiiware game an M rated game would definitely stand out there.
Companies have the legal right to protect their IP however it doesn't mean that its morally right to do so. A lot of the nintendo fans just mindlessly agree with whatever Nintendo does. Nintendo should have only required that they make it clear that this is an unofficial production with no affiliation with Nintendo, and also should not have any money made on it. That would have protected their intellectual property without having to seem like a mean cold hearted corporation.
Anyway this looked decent for a no budget production.
Not everyone has a chance to play local multiplayer often. Though .Nintendo likes to make it hard the best way to play online is with people you know, which can be easier than getting friends from different areas into one room. You say it doesn't need online mutliplayer but if it had robust online features you'd all be going crazy over it.
Nintendo does need to get with the times as far as online play goes. HD graphics aren't so important but online play is. More varied multiplayer modes in general would have been nice too. Its a lot of fun without online but online play done right would have made it amazing.
castlevania better be translated. Unless it really is nintendo policy not translating games just reeks of laziness. I could play original japanese roms anytime but a translation is something different especially since fan translations never really got far for that game.
Excited about ironclad too. More rare games like this are what I'd like to see more of on the VC.
Mostly good review except for needlessly mentioning Ikaruga. Also, I think this game does show creativity in the design especially in radio allergy. I got this and its a really good collection though karous and radio allergy play extremely similar. Chaos field though is pretty different from those two. I still have to get shikigami 3. the dialogue in 2 was some of the most hilariously bad I've ever heard.
the game is still pretty fun and technos definitely had good 16 bit beat em ups including Shin Nekketsu Kōha. final fight for snes was the worst version of it anyway and the sequels weren't that great. Its a fun game but I do agree that bosses can be very cheap.
Its not that the original is even technically that great of a game. It was just lots of fun playing 4 player matches against friends. It was the first console fps that wasn't a pc port to get things right and have customizable and enjoyable multiplayer. That said single player wasn't great and aiming was a chore compared to modern games. Framerates really suffered especially in multiplayer matches. It managed to be great for multiplayer fun despite its flaws. The timesplitters games were pretty much the only games to carry on that kind of multplayer fun.
@Gabbo have you played nam or cabal? basically the same thing except you don't have an actual light gun controlling the cursor. traditional light gun games don't have you actually move a visible character. Also, your closing comments are kind of odd. Why even bother comparing a $5 wiiware game with a retail game? Its not competing with retail releases. Compare it to other wiiware games like wild west guns.
A 6 isn't bad for a 500 point game. I'm not sure what the reviewer things good be better besides graphics. This is kinda a cross between light gun games and games like NAM-1975 or cabal. The reviewer probably should have pointed that out instead of just comparing it the zombie light gun games and saying this "experimented" with an on screen character.
the graphics look worse than world at war for wii. shouldn't they have been able to get better graphics on the wii by now? hopefully the final version will look a bit better considering its a port of an at least 2 year old game. Obviously gameplay is most important but if graphics are crap as compared to other wii games it will be distracting.
I don't think its fair to call any game that doesn't end up great "shovelware" especially when its from an indie studio trying their own thing. Anyway, art style looks similar quality to blpus games which is not a good thing. Haven't played it but looks like it would be as deep as a minigame. Now that they know what they are doing better they should try to come up with something else and do a better job with the art.
the motion control looks as accurate as it should be. Attacks aren't 1:1 accurate but that seems to be cause of slash attacks and special moves which wouldn't be enhanced with 1:1 and make things harder for the dev team. however, it seems that things like parrying are 1:1 which is enhanced by (roughly) 1:1 movement. As far as I'm concerned they seem to be going about the motion controls in an intelligent way. Too bad this doesn't have online though.
looks cool but I'm kinda concerned about it being episodic. That usually means it ends up costing more or same as retail with no chance at price coming down.

Trackmania is cool and this version looks fun but I never liked that you can't actually interact with the other racers.
