@Pink_Floyd Multiple 3DSs aren't going to help. You would need multiple copies of the game, or as the other guys said, one copy that you are willing to delete the save file of over and over again. Pokemon cart games are still saved to the cartridge. Digital versions save to the 3DS, but that game is locked to one 3DS, so no matter how you dice it, multiple 3DSs aren't going to help getting multiple starters.
@TeslaChippie That's making the definition of a an emulator a bit wide. By that definition, the NES model 2 top loader is an emulator, because it is trying to copy what the original did. It uses a different board and it's coaxle output is a bit different than the original model NES.
@TeslaChippie This isn't an emulator. This is a Field Programmable Gate Array. Meaning the chip is configured in the field, rather than in a factory. Internally it works exactly the same as the original NES chips.
@MadAdam81 NES has no OS, as is the case for most older cartridge based systems. Games are written in assembly, machine code. The games communicate directly with the hardware.
@Spike6958 Yeah that's a poor argument though. Stealing entertainment is not legal. The only way I can get a 4k TV is by paying thousands of dollars. Doesn't mean because I can't afford the market price, it should be morally acceptable for me to steal one from Best Buy.
@samuelvictor Any emulators that I know of that have been being developed for over 20 years, were being done for Windows, not for a system on a chip. And those emulators were made by amatures in their spare time, and were awful. Nesticle after all these years, is still terrible. Some of the more recent emulators are much more accurate. Having a professional for profit team should churn out something really nice.
Nah. For $185 I can get the NES AVS. It's has way more features, and it outputs 720p, a resolution the NES can actually properly scale to. I'm not paying $400 for a system that outputs distorted video.
@Dakt Yeah I don't think the author of the article read the quotes he posted. They talk about it as if it's a completely different game than the 3ds and PS4 versions. The quotes say each game looks different, and you move differently.
@Decapre I wouldn't take my chances. My local he shop tried to order these to sell at his shop, and they were told there were limited quantities, and they didn't have enough to supply everyone, so only the big chains would be getting them.
@ElkinFencer10 The Retron 5 sucks as far as compatibility goes. There are several games it won't even load, because it uses a cheap software emulator. The AVS on the other hand will play every NES game. On top of that, there is no input lag, so you can play twitch based games like Mike Tyson's Punch out, without getting destroyed. And this is a quality product, the pins aren't going to fall out after 2 months. It also has online leader boards. This is in a different league then the Retron 5. This isn't an arm based cheap emulation box, this is a modern HD way of playing NES. The two can't be compared.
@Yasume Given the Wii U is more powerful than the PS3, I don't see Nintendo making a console less powerful than the PS4. Maybe equally powered. Why though would they release another console with the same power as their current console that failed? They aren't stupid. The only way this will be less powerful than a PS4, is if it's not a console, and just a handheld device.
Calling NX as Nintendo Cross Platform. A controller with a usb dongle that pops pops out, and connects to other systems allowing you to play Nintendo games on them.
MH is Mobile Handheld. It's a smartphone handheld game hybrid. Uses cartridges that also work in the NX dongle.
As fun as this looks, it's still a bit lame. Using a drag N drop development tool, then copying another companies designs, then copying what the community all suggested Nintendo would do after Mario Maker , and then asking for a years pay.. not cool in my book. Show a little creativity if you want my money. This looks like a project most developers do for free as a learning experience.
And I would certainly expect a cease and desist. Sure they changed character and npc sprites, but the puzzles and stuff are 1 to 1 direct copies from A Link to the Past. Nintendo has a strong case. If Nintendo is working on a Zelda Maker, expect this to disappear fast.
Could someone ease find out which way they mapped the B and A buttons? Usually these things are a let down because they map the buttons in the wrong direction. B should be mapped to the Y button, and A should be mapped to the B button (on the 8bitdo controllers/SNES style). This way you can hold down the run button and press the jump button at the same time, in platformers.
I have a feeling they just mapped B to B, and A to A though , making it useless for most anything but RPGs.
@Zapazoid They didn't patent this only a couple of months ago. I remember seeing this patent on NintendoLife forever ago. What the article says is that there were errors with the patent, and Nintendo has to resubmit it. So now after submitting it for a second time, it has finally passed. Products release without patents all the time. This patent was filled way in advance.
Wow... Just finished watching the video. She literally just hacked up an nes and bolted guitar parts onto it. What about this is worth posting to NL? Anyone with no skill what so ever can do this. She didn't do any cool Ben Heck style mods, or Incorporated the original circuitry or anything.
I'm going to bolt a handle to my nes, and slide a sandwich in the game slot, and call it the nes lunchbox. Will you publish a story and post my video NL?
Sad part is, the article doesn't even question it. I mean come on, why are you destroying a 30 year old collectable that is in demand right now, and isn't being produced anymore. This isn't cool, or art. This is just a lazy attempt at grabbing attention. If you want to make something cool as art... Then make it yourself. People make beautiful giant NES coffee tables or bed spreads. You are not paying tribute, you are destroying our culture. Why would you promote and give free publicity to this NL?
I'm just gonna go ahead and buy the $150 NES AVS coming out soon. It has online leader boards for point based games, and the HDMI port is already included at no additional charge. $5000 for gold plating is stupid. What does it cost, $800 for gold playing?
And the Zelda comment? That had to be troll bait. No Nintendo journalist is that ignorant of the two Zelda games on NES right?
Let's be honest. This is a PS2 quality game. It isn't an optimization problem, and if it is, your team is freaking terrible! Must be the sloppiest code in history.
This is an issue of you guys not knowing how to program for dedicated console hardware, and pretending you were something more than lightweight PC developers that used a pre built engine made for PCs. The only reason you are releasing to PS4 and Xbox One, is because you lucked into a console generation with hardware indenticle to PC hardware that runs the same prebuilt PC software engines. You guys don't know how to write a game and engine from scratch for any console specific hardware. You are probably trying to get your bulky Unity mess onto the Wii U as is, or by running it through some auto optimizations.
@AyeHaley There will be only 1 version of Street Fighter 5. There will be no Ultimate or Super editions. Anything they add in to the game will be free downloadable content. Capcom has repeated it several times. SFV is the one and only version.
@Gauchorino Yup, the article itself mentioned that it is old news, but no one seemed to notice. They site their source as Game Informer issues 269, which in itself is a year old.
@HeroOfTime32 Hmm after doing some research, I couldn't find any direct qoute from Nintendo saying that they would continue the Gameboy line after the launch of the DS. The closest I could find was Iwata saying "It could be possible for the DS to be a third pillar next to the GBA" (Which in fact it was for a few years), but nothing about Nintendo continuing Gameboy after the GBA. Only the media blowing it up and speculating whatever they want, like they do with every Nintendo announcement. And then fans turning speculation into "fact" and history.
@HeroOfTime32 I'm looking for an actual source, a quote from Nintendo, if you have please share it with me. I remember the announcements when the DS was first being talked about. But I never saw Nintendo saying they will continue developing new Gameboy systems along side DS systems. I only remember them saying that DS was a new line, not part of the Gameboy line. I don't remember them saying they would keep 3 teirs going at the same time. I have only seen this said recently in comment sections when people discuss the NX. I think it's a bit of revisionist history. Nintendo said the DS wasn't part of the Gameboy line, and now they have announced NX as separate from their console and handheld lines ad that it will be a third tier.. Now people are saying Nintendo said this in the past. As far as I know though, Nintendo never said 3 tiers up until the NX, they simply said the DS was not replacing the Gameboy. Two similar things, but not the same.
@Minotaurgamer I keep seeing this in comment sections, but I have never seen this in an actual Nintendo source. I have seen Nintendo say, that the DS was a new line, and not part of the Gameboy line, but I have never seen them say that the DS is a third pillar and they will keep producing new Gameboy consoles. @faint For me Castlevania 1 is a lot harder than Ninja Gaiden 1. I can make it to the last boss on Ninja Gaiden. The first few stages in Castlevania are a walk in the park, but after that it gets brutal, I can't progress without save states.
Haven't played Castlevania 3, and only played a little bit of Ninja Gaiden 2, but I was able to adapt to challenges in what I played of it, though it did seem a bit harder than Ninja Gaiden 1
Microsoft has been getting super cozy with Nintendo for a while now. Given some of the patent leaks we've seen lately, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Nintendo games on Xbox... While at the same time never leaving Nintendo hardware. I could see the NX as being a small box that can connect to the Wii U, as well as Xbox and Windows. Using the box to contact Nintendo servers, while at the same time harnessing the local power of processors on your PC or game system. This would also be a strong partnership to push back against PlayStations commanding lead.
X and Y are my favorite Pokemon games outside of Red and Blue. That being said, having over 700 Pokemon is just stupid. I wish with each new generation they had just released around 10 Pokemon. Starting off with 150/1 was a great starting base. And at the time, they made it seem like that was the whole world of Pokemon aside from a few undocumented species. It would have been reasonable to add 10 new ones per generation as you helped the professors go to all corners of the earth in search of different monsters. When they dropped 100 new ones in the second generation, it was just a major turn off. I would have been happier if they had focused more heavily on story, features and mechanics. Instead every new series just felt like a remastered version of the last, instead of aa brand new sequel. Games had small mechanical updates here and there with each new version, but it wasn't enough, and it just felt stale. It was just tacked on stuff that you would expect from any rpg, like day and night cycles, and team battles. I feel like after generation one, they could have had all the features of X and Y (aside from online content) in generation 2, and a more compelling single player story. And by now, we should be in the second generation of a full blown Pokemon mmo.
@KingMike I'm pretty sure he was referring to the cartridge connectors. The Famicom had a 60 pin cartridge, and the NES a 72 pin cartridge. Thus making the system physically incompatible with NES carts. Though I'm sure you could use an adapter with little issue.
Y'all realise Famitsu is a Japanese video game magazine that covers all brands and systems. Stop asking so much of it. It isn't run by Nintendo. They have the same access to Zelda as anybody else. You will likely get coverage on what is already out there, and possibly some leaked info or rumors.
@MrSeitaro Sounds like my cup of tea. I love old NES RPGs like Dragon Warrior, where you just grind and listen to awesome tunes. The entire storey is.. "Defeat the Dragon Lord"
@Peach64 In the other instances I agree with you. But seeing how this isn't being done by players, this is being done by Disney themselves, and it is being used to profit (sell Infinity) off of Nintendo's IPs I'm pretty sure Nintendo has a strong case. However I doubt Nintendo would go after Disney, they are more interested in going after their own fans.
@SteveW Would like to see the AB buttons at the reverse angle.
Why on earth would you swap the dpad and stick though? It doesn't make any sense to have the sticks at an awkward angle like that. Either put them both at the top, or both at the bottom. But in this case it's being used mostly for retro games, keep the dpad in the primary position.
