UPDATE: Fabian Mario Döhla has since taken to Twitter to claim that the stream in question was conducted with a close friend and his comments were deliberately exaggerated:
ORIGINAL STORY: Nintendo didn't show off NX at E3 this year, instead choosing to focus on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - a move which seemed to go down better than many expected, given the incredible hype generated by the forthcoming action RPG.
However, Nintendo's decision to keep its next console under wraps frustrated some sectors of the games industry, with claims that the uncertainty surrounding the machine could be undermining consumer confidence. With a release date presumably coming early in 2017, many fans feel that Nintendo should be using the remaining months of 2016 to build anticipation for the new platform. Instead, it currently falls to third-party studios to do that job.
CD Projekt Red PR bod Fabian Mario Döhla is the latest individual to fan the flames, claiming that NX will be "fantastic" in an interview with Rocket Beans TV. A former senior PR person at Sega of America, he says that many European studios are excited about the console:
Host: What do you know about NX?
Fabian: It will be fantastic. As developer [CD Projekt] you get access to the hardware and everybody [at CD Projekt] is looking forward. We know things.
Host: Are you lying now?
Fabian: No, no.
Host: Sometimes I cannot tell if you are telling the truth or not.
Fabian: No, no! It was like this in the past as the Wii prototypes came in, back then called "Revolution". It was so funny that in Japan they were all very excited at the developer studios of SEGA, they thought it was very good. The Europeans took a little longer. Like "Well, maybe this doesn't work", you know, because it was technically just a GameCube. It was not much more. But NX what you hear [of the developers] about NX is all very positive.
Host: But the hardware will be much worse than the new Xbox.
Fabian: I think this will never again be the main emphasis in the future [for Nintendo]. Can it [NX] be better than the new Xbox? Take a realistic point of view: is Nintendo able to build a console that has got more power than Xbox?
While we still don't have any concrete information, it's encouraging to hear that developers are reacting positively to NX. Hopefully Nintendo will unviel the console sooner rather than later.

He also said on Twitter that it was all exaggerated.
Starting to sound like it might not be a powerhouse though. That could disappoint a lot of folks.
@Shiroimi Said what was exaggerated?
Either way, whether the guy's been misquoted, or taken out of context, or whatever, it's nice to have some more pretty meaningless words to kick off another week of baseless conjecture
@Shiroimi So is that a good or a bad thing?
Witcher 3 on NX ? Hype !!!
He said he was just joking or something on twitter: https://twitter.com/fabiandoehla/status/744756719436333056
I don't think we're meant to take him serious.
kimishima claimed that nintendo won't lose money on the hardware. if it's sans gamepad, optical drive, and internal storage, then at the ideal price, it might just be powerful enough to match xbox one, which isn't really a standard to aspire to in this generation.
Of course Nintendo can build a console more powerful than xbox. The reason why they do not want to is what makes them Nintendo.
@DrkBndr it's a safe bet that the guy was trolling the hypesters. they've never made a nintendo game afaik, i doubt they'd get dibs on the next generation of nintendo hardware when other developers claim they haven't even been given specs on paper. nintendo could just rebadge the xbox one s, for all we know.
So @Damo don't you think it is sarcasm?
Guy was just trolling. Devs don't even know what the NX is.
@Jamotello Reggie already stated that we shouldn't be looking at specs and raw power. Based on that comment it's pretty safe to say that the NX hardware will be worse than the current PS4 and XBone models.
Nintendo is always a generation behind, it's nothing new.
Hey, Nintendo! Get the finger out already!
What kind of interviewer asks if somebody is lying or not. That should have cast doubts to beggin with.
Think most devs are as much in the dark about NX as we are.
@MadAussieBloke Indeed. I think we are looking at another Wii U. Possibly even worse.
In more interesting news (as they've actually released games on Nintendo consoles, including Wii U): Take-Two have said they're interested in the NX.
Given how Nintendo struggled to get to grips with HD early on during the Wii U and still seem to be finding their feet somewhat, I'm starting to believe it'll be the same power or slightly better. I'm sure Nintendo don't want to move on to anything too demanding just yet.
Ehm... it's not an RPG. Of any kind. Not an Action-RPG either. It's an Adventure game, or Action-Adventure to be exact.
The only two Zelda games that had RPG elements and could thus be called an RPG are Adventure of Link (also known as Zelda II) and Hyrule Warriors. All other Zelda games lack the most important, defining characteristic of an RPG: Experience Points!
@Yasume ...Yet Koei claims to have titles in development for it. Dev kits come out years before the finished product, you know.
Also, if the Wii U (in comparison to 7th gen) is anything to go off of, the NX will be about as/slightly more powerful than current gen.
@FragRed Nintendo's comments and Ubisoft's revelations point at another underpowered console. It it's x86-64 it would be easier to develop for as it is the main technology used now, but with PS4, Xbox One, Neo and Scorpio around and seeing how the Wii U performed, it is not going to be much different from Wii U's situation. If it is PowerPC again, Wii U ports will abound and third party support will be almost zero.
Well, there you go; the update says it all really.
It's beyond ironic that I was about to type, "Well, this is the first bit of good news I've heard about NX. But, are they even developing for it, because ultimately that's all that really matters here.", and then I noticed the update.
So, still nothing out there that's instilling me with any confidence around this whole NX deal.
Well, seems to me that one man's funny isn't necessarily another one's...
hashtag @sswipe...
@VanillaLake Way, WAY too soon to tell. You're jumping to all kinds of conclusions based upon a dumb statement from Ubisoft that was simply meant to toot their own horn and a comment from Reggie Fils-Aimé that was fully expected, since he always says that, so you simply can't glean any conclusive knowledge from that.

We'll see...
@ThanosReXXX I just woke up and already I'm getting slammed!!! Woooooooo
Even if the NX was overpriced, if it was overpowered I'd get it. The Wii U would have killed this generation if it had just been able to keep up with new 3rd Party AAA releases. The game pad was a good concept and was underused because no one wanted to waste time developing for a console that had no power (and thusly no install base to speak of) so its potential stagnated. Unless Nintendo can capture lightening in a bottle a second time; which, is still possible - I think a system that can't handle the next wave of big 3rd party games, and the one after that...will fail. I doubt I'll even get it and there is nothing I want less than that.
So many fellow gamers keep saying we should just get multiple consoles. Most peoples' wallets and schedules can't afford that. Nintendo HAS to attack the red and blue oceans.
@BLPs Really? Holy cr** man, some peeps just have to work. I was on my lunch break just now, but I've got to get back to work now...
The company probably signed a non disclosure agreement, he got told to keep his big mouth shut so he retracted the comment and said it's a joke.
@ThanosReXXX I've basically made iy my duty to drink at certain things that show up on the site so that people might realise its getting a littttttle bit too much. Sadly I think ill bite the dust first because humans are a bunch or ignorant, self-absorbed, war-mongering and self-destructive sacks of carbon.
@BLPs A... >HICK!< ... men to that...
The Witcher is awesome games would love too them on the NX and any future games aswell.
@ThanosReXXX I hate humanity. Hope that's apparent
Cyberpunk2077 NX incoming
what an a$$hat.
They totally now. Like they knew they will release redkit 2. Or that there is no level cap in Witcher 3. And there is more they "know".
@Rutana Experience points don't define RPGs. Decision-making and character growth define RPGs. Heart containers, new swords etc are types of character growth (experience is too)
I dunno, might still happen. A spinoff more than a port, perhaps...
@BLPs I said amen... (interrupted by an alcohol induced hiccup)
@ThanosReXXX I still hate humans I'll get mighty no. 9. I need a solid game to cheer me up. Hurry friday
@BLPs But there's hope yet, as long as there are still people like you and me and a couple of others here on NLife, so I'm not quite prepared to go full-on Debby Downer yet...
Well, you can't really blame any journalists for jumping on this story. He's the official PR guy for a major developer after all and German 'humor' is...hard to discern.
I think that Nintendo Life need to slow down a bit when it comes to reporting 'news'.
After spending so much time reporting the utter s#¥% that was spewing out of that woman's mouth about the NX and Zelda (can't remember her name), N Life is making itself appear non-credible and frankly, rather silly.
Can we please report actual, solid, credible, confirmed NEWS please?!
I dont care what some idiot analyst thinks about Nintendo's chances, what some idiots on Twitter are talking crap about, or what some wee attention seeking boot is saying in a pathetic bid for attention. It's utterly ridiculous, as reflects badly on the reputation of the site.
If you don't have something to report, write a piece with at least some consideration for the intelligence of your readership. Because this kind of rubbish is becoming unacceptably frequent.
Thank you.
Even though the NX might not be the most powerful console, IF it is easy to develop games on, power shouldn't matter. I'd really prefer 3rd party publishers to put original content on Nintendo's new console, instead of ports. All I hear about are ports. Why not have bad a$$ games made for Nintendos console instead?
@ThanosReXXX It'll be fun. I hope things turn around or else I'm out.
Why is it always the Nintendo new sites that literally dig through pure garbage to report anything on Nintendo? It's like they have nothing else to talk about. Hmm
And it's CD Projekt Red.
I think the Nx will be definitely fantastic for nintendo fans. If its gonna be interesting for anyone else remains to be seen.
I think the NX is still a mystery to most devs.
Yeah, someone might have said too much for Nintendo's liking there.
@roboshort No, that's exactly the point. Link never grows on his own, only through items. That's a characteristic for Adventure Games, not RPGs. In an RPG the character becomes stronger through experience, even if it means fighting the same monsters over and over again. In Zelda, no matter how many enemies you beat up, Link doesn't get stronger unless he gets a certain item.
GameStop's confirmed that the NX won't be download only, but they don't know what medium it's using.
@Yasume Given the Wii U is more powerful than the PS3, I don't see Nintendo making a console less powerful than the PS4. Maybe equally powered. Why though would they release another console with the same power as their current console that failed? They aren't stupid. The only way this will be less powerful than a PS4, is if it's not a console, and just a handheld device.
@Yasume It very well could be underpowered like the Wii U. Or maybe its a case of Reggie and Nintendo not needing to get into the comparison game. How would it look for them to publicly start comparing console specs when their whole stance up until now is about the games being more important than graphical power? We would probably be bashing them for selling out and becoming graphic ladies of the night. Again, Reggie could very well be saying their next console is once again not as powerful as the other two. Or he could be trying to keep the focus where it needs to be
Better than The Witcher 3.
@Haru17 Doubtful.
@FlaygletheBagel Doubtless.

@Rutana The mechanism for character growth is only important in that you need to overcome some obstacle to grow. The mechanism doesn't have to be experience points. In the case of Zelda, that growth is accomplished through puzzle-solving and killing bosses. If you want to talk about there not being enough choices for it to be an RPG, that is a different issue.. a lot of so-called JRPGs would no longer be classified as RPGs (and probably rightly-so), though.
@roboshort Decisions have nothing to do with the RPG genre. If that would be an important factor, Visual Novels, Ego Shooters, heck - even Sport Games would suddenly be RPGs.
And solving a Puzzle has nothing to do with character growth either.
Character growth means, that if you would remove all items and equipments at the end of the game, the character is still stronger as he/she was in the very beginning. That's the common factor every RPG has in common.
Zelda doesn't fit into that genre. If you remove all items, which includes Upgrades thus as Heart Containers, Link's as weak as he was at the very beginning. And except for Zelda II, the games never tried to be an RPG either. You will never hear Nintendo calling Zelda an RPG or see Zelda in their RPG categories, instead, you'll hear time and time again how Zelda is an "Adventure", that's what Zelda has been since the very beginning!
People often go over lengths to call Zelda an RPG because "you take the role of Link" or "you're roleplaying as Link", often in combination of "that's why you can name Link as yourself" (which btw is not possible in Breath of the Wild anymore), but that's just as wrong. By that definition, every game in 1st person would be an RPG. Or every game where you can name yourself - games like Art Academy would suddenly be an RPG, heck, every single game would suddenly ve an RPG.
Just take a minute and think of every RPG advertised as such, or officially categorized as such. Name me one without some form of EXP.
Too bad that Nintendo of America would probably censor Witcher if it ever came to NX. So much for seeing Geralt's (is that his name?) butt. (--_-- )
btw, I don't know if we can actually see his butt in the game. I just imagine we probably can. And if not, then we probably should.
@mid_55 I don't think if it doesn't reach Scorpio that it won't be powerful. Nobody needs those specs realistically in 2017 yet.
"is Nintendo able to build a console that has got more power than Xbox?" Given enough time, they are able to build a new Tokyo, Mr Big Shot. They probably will not make a powerhouse because it will elevate console prices, and Nintendo will not have that.
@Haru17 Lmao!! Good one
@Utena-mobile Yes, yes you can. You can also watch him bathe. Not with a rubber ducky, though.
@Haru17 Hey, that piggyback ride was heartfelt and a long time coming. And awkward/random as hell. But that's okay, Geralt is a cool guy like that.
LOL, Nintendo Life comment section.... Just LOL, getting knickers in a twist over a joke.
@Rutana There plenty of RPGs without experience. Fate is one.
I should have added a qualifier. Choice that "affects the narrative" and character growth are pretty much what define RPGs. You assume the role of a character and progress through a narrative making choices along the way. That is why sports games and the like are not RPGs. I would say that a story mode in a pro wrestling game can be an RPG, though. JRPGs took a lot of traits from Dungeons and Dragons (especially initially), but didn't include the part that really makes it an RPG, except for a few that have like XCX.
I would argue that items in Zelda become part of the character and heart containers most certainly do. But if you don't agree, so be it. That said, I could easily imagine creating a table-top RPG based on the rules of Zelda without any real alterations.
Anyway, definitions in human language are a pain in the ass, because there are always going to be holes, which is what is nice about math.
@roboshort 1st Gameplay video I looked up for Fate shows a quest that rewards, suprise, Experience. Want another try?
And a Story Mode in a Sports Game is everything, but surely not an RPG. When it's about Game Genres, it's the gameplay mechanics that play the key role.
Modern shooter also have an Experience System, that's the "RPG Elements" that are often mentioned with these kinds of games. Doesn't make it an RPG though, as it doesn't boost the character directly.
For someone who loves western RPGs, like you do, it's surely buffeling, why JRPGs are called, well, "RPG", but that's because of your misconception about what defines an RPG, and it should be your biggest clue that "decision making" doesn't mean a damn when it comes to RPG. It's something you often find in RPGs, but it's not the defining factor.
Creating a Zelda-SpinOff in another Genre (for example Table Top RPG) is completely besides the point as well! And just think about it: What would be the biggest alteration to add? Right, Experience Points and Character Building.
And sure, definitions can be a crux when someone doesn't understand the definition. That's the same in language and in math.
But maybe, MAYBE, we should at least trust Nintendo themselves into which category they put their games?
Check out this Link:
http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Search/Search-299117.html?q=&faf=GAME&gst=3ds_cartridge%7C3ds_digitaldistribution
Now go to "Categories" and choose "RPG". You know what you'll find? Tons and tons of games that all share one factor: Experience Points. Heck, even Sport-RPGs like Izuma Eleven are there. Know what you won't find? Any Zelda games!
Because when you search for "Zelda" (and keep in mind to uncheck "RPG", or the search result won't show any Zelda game), every single Zelda game is categorized under "Action, Adventure".
It's fine if you have your sight of view on what an RPG is - but it's undeniable, that Nintendo clearly doesn't see Zelda as an RPG. And I would argue that they with all their experience in gaming, know it better
Hell, if Witcher 3 will be on NX at launch (or near), than now I am officially "day one" buyer.
