Re: Matters Of Import: Fusing Classics In Puyo Puyo Tetris On Nintendo Switch

iphys

Hope to see more news on import games, and maybe even a weekly eShop update on what's available in Japan, since I seem to be buying more games there so far.

I bought the Japanese digital copy, and I'm getting the NA physical copy too! It seems pretty good so far, and it's cool watching people's replay videos, like someone cleared 40 lines in under 40 seconds with a perfect clear at the end.

Re: Here Are Your New My Nintendo Rewards

iphys

How hard is it to at least offer us some old NES games for free? This feels like such a scam just offering us discounts to squeeze more money out of us. I already stopped buying new games till they offer a reward I care about because of the coin expiry, but I guess that's the only way a 30% discount will finally be tempting is if it's for a game I'm holding out on buying and actually want.

Re: Tetris World Record Holder Talks About His Experiences with the Game

I'm surprised he scored that high without understanding how the generator works. It's not 1 in 7 odds in GB Tetris. It's 2 in 32 for getting the same piece as the previous one and 5 in 32 for any other piece. It makes it less likely to give the same piece back to back, but then it will be more likely to alternate back to the same piece again, which since you always know your next piece it still totally feels like it's giving you the same piece you just had all the time. Anyway, it helps a lot to know that your second next piece is unlikely to be the same as your next one, but that you shouldn't be making any assumption against it being the same as your current one.

Re: New My Nintendo Rewards Are Now Available in North America

iphys

Opted to spend my gold on Super Mario 64 and the Pikmin 3 DLC before those expire, as nothing here greatly interests me. Might get Wario Land 3 if nothing else pops up before that expires and I have more coins to spend. So far it feels like a lot of the same offerings Club Nintendo had, and nothing has enticed me to want to spend money like the Club Nintendo exclusive rewards did. The discounts seem like such a pathetic attempt to extract more money out of us that I'm steering clear of those.

Re: Reminder: This is the Final Day for a Number of My Nintendo Rewards

iphys

Best thing about these rewards disappearing is there might actually be something better in their places, but I doubt any of these measly 15% or 30% discounts are going to tempt me. I own these games already and the only two I don't I wouldn't want no matter what the discount, and it's probably going to be the same situation next month.

Re: Talking Point: My Nintendo's Pros, Cons and Areas for Improvement

iphys

The discounts are kind of a joke given that we get sales like the Spring sale that are so much better and require no coins. They don't feel like a reward so much as a way to bleed more money out of you, and I don't understand why NA gets smaller discounts than elsewhere. And yeah, it's lame that almost everything is something I already own, as if they're trying to convince me I should be buying fewer Nintendo games than I have been.

Re: Nintendo's Gold Coin Prices Point the Way to Freebies

iphys

I don't see why they couldn't have just awarded one gold coin per dollar spent. Super annoying that I buy retail games physical and most of the games I buy on the eShop are only like $5 and won't reach the $7 (realistically $7.99) threshold to qualify for any gold coins.

Re: Accusations of Plagiarism Directed at Popular Super Mario Maker Level Creator

iphys

Seriously, I don't think I would mind if someone plagiarized one of my levels, and I would kind of expect that sort of thing to happen in this game with so many kids playing it that are too overwhelmed with the thought of making their own level and that have no clue that plagiarism is wrong. I wouldn't plagiarize a level though, as it's a waste of time to just be copying other people and not trying to create your own thing.

Re: Hands On: Getting Pinned Down By Nintendo Badge Arcade

iphys

@Mijzelffan I didn't say you're guaranteed a free play from the practice machine, but that it's possible to earn one for getting 10 practice badges, which so far I have done on all 8 attempts across 4 days on two 3DS systems. It should be a rarity to walk away with nothing if you know what you're doing, and even if you fail to get 10 practice badges, they'll at least count towards the next day to make it easier.

Re: Hands On: Getting Pinned Down By Nintendo Badge Arcade

iphys

@Mijzelffan It doesn't give a lot of blue or red bonuses, but you get a free play for each 10 practice badges you get, which you should be able to get on most days. Plus, they accumulate from day to day, so to fail to earn a free play 2 days in a row you must be doing something wrong if you couldn't get 10 badges across 2 days: look for ways to cause an avalanche instead of only grabbing badges one by one.
