My Nintendo has, so far, proven to be an interesting Club Nintendo replacement. It's been quite flexible, and with Miitomo rewards thrown in has included some quirky treats for those that like virtual outfits. Beyond that it's included full game downloads, DLC and a variety of discounts.
Nevertheless the end is nigh for a whole batch of rewards, hopefully with more to take their place soon. All of the following expire on 1st May, so at the time of publication this is the last day to grab them.

15% off of Between Worlds huh? A whopping 6 dollars! Also, why is the UK deal better? Can someone explain that to me>
Meh. Bring on the next set of rewards! Hopefully it contains stuff I really want. I'm thinking I should but SFZ/SFG digitally so I can get a bunch of gold coins...
EDIT: went ahead and got the physical copy.
Not interested in any of the discounts... Buying physical is almost always cheaper. I'll save my gold coins for Metroid Fusion, or maybe Mario 64.
Got everything I want/need already. I'm ready for the new awards. I imagine they'll just restock the tickets though or replace them with coins.
Eh, I didn't want any of those. I'll probably get Flipnote Studio for my sister, and that's it. Going forward, they need to cheapen the discounts for me to have any interest. If I manage to get 100 gold coins in 6 months (very unlikely), I'll trade them for a game, not 30% off a game (especially when I can already get 20% off at Best Buy, and Amazon's usually $5-10 off MSRP at regular price).
Well I got use out of the discount for that Mario and DK game (There's so many of em, how am I expected to remember all their names? XD) so crossing my fingers for at least 1 good discount or even free game to replace those.
I bought Metroid Other M a few days ago. But won't be playing it until I finish all the other games, since I'm still new to Metroid, Zero Mission was fun though.
Why can't you just choose from say, 1 n64 of your choice instead of have one up at a time!!
That we be much better imo!
@Angelic_Lapras_King I must have a better memory than you then, because I can remember every game's title easily.
The one you got is Mario and Donkey Kong Minis on the Move.
@Peace-Boy Probably doesnt help that before that, I've only played the first one. XD
I didn't really have a use for any of these rewards, so I'm ready for some new ones!
@JH64 That's what I don't get about this program either. At least let me select on what 1st party games I use my stuff on!
Overall, I already own all of these games so I don't really care.
@Angelic_Lapras_King Oh really? The only one I haven't played is Tipping Stars which is the one after Minis on the Move and before Mini Mario and Friends.
My reason is that it's quite pricey compared to the others. :/
This new rewards system is a disaster. If I am an avid supporter of Nintendo and purchase a lot of of their games, how do the gold coins benefit me? Everything on that list of gold rewards I already have.... The stuff I want like Zelda picross is miitomo and Silver coins only which I don't get because that game is stupid I don't feel like touching it every single day. I fail to see how this new rewards peogram is better. another disaster from Nintendo. Don't get how every decision they make is always 2 steps backward.
@ColdingLight Could do with a bit more cross-regional consistency. On the flipside of that, tech products, games included, are also much more expensive in the UK, but that probably has little bearing on the discrepancy between US and UK rewards.
I only bought the DK theme with my platinum coins, if it's going to be this abysmal I'm almost never going to use these coupons.
Did I forget to mention that the discounts are non-transferable and that the coins expire within 6 months? That's bull.
Good riddance, don't let the door hit you on the way out. The first wave has been pants, with the rewards much better if you're a 3DS owner. I hope the next wave is better for us Wii U owners. There should be a greater emphasis on VC and digital only games. I buy all my games physically where possible and own pretty much everything worth buying. So a 15% discount is both measly and pointless for a lot of owners.
None of those UK rewards listed are doing it for me. Hopefully there'll be more of interest next time.
The VC needs to step up now!
Nintendo must know that only there hardcore fans have brought a wii u, so support the VC as much as possible until the end because it's what we all want right??
I am actually optimistic about My Nintendo. I look forward to what's in store. That said, I do have 2 major problems:
1. Europe's stuff is way cheaper than America's stuff. What gives?
2. In both NA and Europe, products bought with gold coins are way too expensive. In NA, I have to spend $200 on digital only games to get 200 gold coins to get Donkey Kong Country Returns, a game that, if put on the eShop, would be $20. Holy crap, that's a lot of money.
@Peace-Boy Well, they are giving you both versions at that price so that does explain it. XD (Fun fact, it got a physical release in Japan.). Still, could end up as a future discount one day.
and nothing of importance was lost...
@Tendogamerxxx Dude, calm down, it's only early stages.
Also, you don't need Miitomo, look at the missions again. You can just visit the eShop, Miiverse and the My Nintendo website weekly to get free coins.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Amen to that! That's a whole lot of money needed to get a stingy discount on already-expensive games.
I want to get Wario Ware Touched but I need more platinum points......is there a way to get more of those?
@medalofhonorfan Do you even know how this thing works? You can't compare real money to digital coins. They're not worth the same at all.
@Angelic_Lapras_King True, but I don't see any point if there's no cross save. The graphics are the only difference from what I know.
Perhaps I could split the price with my nephew so we can have a version each.
@Peace-Boy I would agree with that statement if only.... THE REWARDS/MyNintendo account was a brand new thing for them. This "system" has already been reset 2x in the past. First it was back in the early gba/ds days, then it was reset again for this "new" program. This is their 3rd attempt at an account/rewards system. To me, this is way past the "early stages" excuse. I'm pretty sure they 'be had plenty of time and raw data to figure what their consumers want. Unfortunately common sense is not something Nintendo uses very often...
...I need coffee... Lol
These rewards suck. Hopefully this is goodbye for good on these terrible 'rewards'
@Tendogamerxxx I'm pretty sure that first time you mention was just a simple change. This is a completely different set up and system. Those discounts offered, they're meant to be "Just for you Offers", but they're not. They need to sort that system out by getting people to enter what games they own or the eShop, connected to the My Nintendo account, does it for them.
@Peace-Boy Look. I know it will get better eventually, but looking back at their history, that change may come in 2-3 years from now... My whole thing is, if you are going to have a rewards system make sure it's inclusive of everyone and actually offer rewards people want. If you are going with all digital rewards at least offer discounts on "any" 1st party game. If you can't do that then offer some sort of "exclusive" dlc. Perhaps a conversion system where I turn gold coins into silver coins?
Maybe I'm just old... As a fan of Nintendo since 89' maybe I'm just like an old grouchy grandpa. Lol
@ColdingLight
It's not really better, because LOZ:ALBW is part of Nintendo Selects, at £15.99 in the UK, so only £3.20 off. I mean, I guess the game is still cheaper in the end, but the My Nintendo discount is worse.
What if they're just replacing them with more discounts?
How about some free regular games for Platinums? Just adjust the prices (fairly...) and let us use whatever currency we want.
@Tendogamerxxx I was thinking of a conversion system too, but the other way round. But now that I think about it, Nintendo was probably thinking that it would be too easy to get points. XD
@Snargledon I LOVE your profile picture!
@Peace-Boy
Thanks! Ghost Trick is my favourite game of all time!
@Snargledon Ha ha, I wouldn't call it my favourite game of all time, but it's certainly a fantastic game. An amazing story, good gameplay, great puzzles and great characters, including that hippy detective, Cabanela.
@GoldenGamer88 My guess is this method helps encourage people to consider games they might not have otherwise. Still, so long as they rotate through them often enough within the lifespan of the coins...
Time is ticking sure...for the next rewards we ACTUALLY want. Can't wait.
@Tendogamerxxx
I fail to see how anything you disapprove of constitutes a "disaster". Your idea of a disaster is quite different than mine.
I own every game on the list too. Not Zelda Picross or WarioWare Touched. But now I do- I own both games, twice, one on each of my 3DS (at home and on-the-go).
That's 4 free games in what, 1 month? And for free at that!
DKC Returns VC download is also exclusive for NA, so that's my gold coin goal. So what if we own every game on the list- that's why they're being rotated out. The only "disaster" was Club Nintendo. Good rewards that only drop once a year, and the website would freeze up and crash from the overload, and of course it would be sold out before you even realized it was live. And even if you did know, you couldn't put an order through because of the website overload. THAT is a disaster. This is charity. I've got 4 free games for free in little more than a month.
@Peace-Boy Look at the missions. For every purchase $5-10, that's 10 gold coins. $10-20 is 20 gold coins. You don't have to spend exactly $200 to get DKCR Wii, but it's pretty freakin' close. Do the math. It isn't hard.
@medalofhonorfan
This program is basically a permanent Digital Deluxe Promotion. If you do the math, it's basically 10% back for almost every gold coin reward. Spend $200, get 10% back = $20. DKC Returns is a $20 game. It doesn't matter which reward you choose- it pretty much equals 10% back for every single one of them- even the 30% off coupons.
Im saving up for DKC Returns. I have 100 coins to go. I buy all my retail releases physically but, I buy a lot of indies, VC, and digital copies of my fave retail games for my on-the-go 3DS. So I've got 2 accounts gathering coins, one for each 3DS. What kind of rewards you get depends how much you spend.
I'm hoping for the exclusives to continue- both with gold and plat rewards. An effective 10% back is cool, but the plat rewards are where the real generosity lies. 90 coins a week- that's without Miitamo, means you can get four 1,000-point platinum games a year for free (I've gotten 4 in a month though, using Miitamo and my second account)
Hoping the replacements inspire me to actually spend my 30 gold coins
What I don't like is that unlike Club Nintendo, there is no way to register physical copies any more. You only get gold coins when you actually buy software on the eShop. Is it asking too much to put a PIN code in the software box like before?
I'm still working on getting enough platinum coins for the Twilight Princess Picross game on 3DS. (No Miitomo for me. ) As for the rewards that are expiring, I'm not sorry to see them go; hopefully new/better ones take their place.
I still have a code for Flipnote Studio 3D. If anyone is interested, speak now or forever hold your peace!
I'd buy more tickets if I didn't have a 95% chance of getting more sweets instead of clothing! There's not even any need for sweets! >_<
The website briefly made me excited as it had a new option labeled "Redeem a Point Code". I thought Nintendo was going to start including codes in physical copies of games again to redeem for coins.
No such luck, the support site says they just randomly email them to members to be redeemed.
@Snargledon I bought Ghost Trick purely for that character, I read in a review about him dancing like Michael Jackson and I had to have it lol. Thankfully the game is awesome!
@MJKOP
I definitely saw the MJ influences in him!
So that's a pretty resounding thumbs down to the first wave of rewards on My Nintendo from most people here. Also, bring back the physical rewards from Club Nintendo please.
these were kind of lame anyways, so good riddance. I'm excited to see the next wave of rewards.
I've got WarioWare Touched, Flipnote Studio 3D, and some stuff for use in Miitomo, so far so good as far as I'm concerned. I've plenty of points gathered up if I fancy something else, so yeah, I can't complain really.
No.
The offers are less than enticing. I hope the new ones are an improvement.
Why can't we get platinum points for sf zero and other wii u games???
@JaxonH @SLIGEACH_EIRE
Finally opened my copy of Bayonetta 1 + 2 the other day that I purchased back in October when Gamestop dropped it to $35. Saw the Club Nintendo code in the back and thought - now what am I supposed to do with this? It was a rhetorical question, I knew the answer was "nothing".
So while I agree the old Club Nintendo had its issues, stock shortages and a sloooow website among them, I'll take it any day over My Nintendo, aka Miitomo Coins. Miitomo Plus? Just seems like an extension of Miitomo to me. And I miss my Family Account where all of our coins combined, now my family has 4 accounts with scattered coins. And I really hate having to go and click on things after doing them. At least the gold coins auto added when my son bought Shovelknight.
I do think My Nintendo will get better after it moves away from being so closely connected to Miitomo, but I miss my yearly desktop calendar and physical games counting. It's better than nothing, but it doesn't seem as good as it was, nor as good as it will be. We'll see how NX changes things.
Are people really upset over a truly free rewards program?
I mean they aren't the greatest, but you get most of the coins for interacting with the Nintendo products....
This is much better then most others companies, who force you to spend money get all the rewards (I'm part of numerous rewards programs).
I mean Sony just ended Playstation MVP (the PS rewards program) with no replacement in sight.
They said the cost didn't justify the result.
Microsoft doesn't bother to do anything with Xbox Rewards, yet doesn't have the heart to kill it.
But at least Xbox users get a free digital cake card on XBL and a free quarter for their birthday.
In the end I can't complain about My Nintendo Rewards, I got free goodies for have fun with Nintendo products.
@rjejr
Did you miss how the majority in each territory hated Club Nintendo because it had "crappy" prizes, "worthless" games, and "insulting" platinum prizes.
Also practically everyone hated entering in those pins to get coins. They also hated the surveys too.
But My Nintendo does have menu to input PINS.
I'm a little baffled at the complaints--Sony and MS don't even have such a system, and you're complaining about something that is given to you, quite literally, for free, and all most of you can do is whine and complain about it.
This is thread is a microcosm of what's wrong w/ the modern world: a bunch of entitled children (and man children) moaning at how poorly Nintendo treats them by not giving them the 'right' **free** stuff!
(Spare me the semantics: yes, you pay to earn the coins (or play Miitomo) but you're not owed anything at all beyond the product you purchased.)
@ECM
So true.
But don't be sexist and exclude women from it.
I'm personally quite happy with My Nintendo. Maybe that's because I must be one of the few people here that truly like Miitomo.
Regardless, physical rewards and points from physical copies of games would be nice. Even if it's only half as much as you would get from buying the same game digitally would be good, and still allow Nintendo to try and push people towards digital.
I don't like the thought of using gold coins for discounts. You spend more than the discount is worth to get it. You pay more for the game.
@Tom41 Exactly. I'm very annoyed about the giant middle finger given out to everyone buying physical.
As long as I can keep pre-ordering stuff during store promotions and save $20-30 per new release, there's no incentive for me to buy digitally.
@rjejr
I think people over exaggerate the connection with Miitomo. You can collect almost 100 coins a week without ever touching the app. And the gold coins have absolutely nothing to do with it either.
And just so you know, gold coins are automatic. I don't think its a perfect reward system, but, I've gotten more out of MyNintendo in a month than I got out of CN for a year.
I still don't even have enough coins for Zelda Picross..
@rjejr
Also, so you know, Sony Rewards equal 1 point per dollar spent. And it takes 1,000 points for a $10 PSN card.
So you have to spend $1,000 for $10 back. With MyNintendo, you only need to spend $100 for $10 back. The rewards are far more limited, and in coupons mostly. But nonetheless I've got credit cards that give me more money back than I see from Sony Rewards. We're getting 10x the value per dollar spent. Be thankful- it could always be worse :/
I've passed on them. I already have the physical copies of most of these games and the discounts aren't enticing enough to make me jump to digital
Best thing about these rewards disappearing is there might actually be something better in their places, but I doubt any of these measly 15% or 30% discounts are going to tempt me. I own these games already and the only two I don't I wouldn't want no matter what the discount, and it's probably going to be the same situation next month.
I had a download code for Flipnote Studio 3D that I wanted to give away, however, it'll expire on May 1st. Oh well...
To me personally those rewards hardly worth the efforts to get. It's fairly easy to find coupons or pre-owned games that look like new for equal or higher discounts....
I got Flipnote Studio, WarioWare Touched, the Mario 3DS Theme, and a Mario suit for my Mii. Now I'm 95 points away to get Zelda Picross.
I'm really excited to see the new wave of rewards. The ones they currently have sucked.
Does anyone know if the download costs are tied to your NNID or if I can use one of my 3 NNIDs and use the codes on another one?
10% off Fire Emblem Fates for 20 Gold Points is next for Europe.
@ikki5 I have heard that discount coupons or specifically tied to your Nintendo ID. Full downloads like Zelda Picross and the Flipnote Studio seem to be available as a code for anybody to download I think.
@Tendogamerxxx Not really a disaster. For someone like me, who hasn't bought all the games yet, a discount is very welcome indeed.
@Tendogamerxxx Not really a disaster. For someone like me, who hasn't bought all the games yet, a discount is very welcome indeed.
@LordGeovanni yeah, it is more the codes I want for the games/themes.
In Europe some new rewards have become available already, in particular Captain Toad.
I have a simple question about those coins: Since they can be used temporarily, isn't it possible you just ad them close to the time you want to use them? I fear that's not possible, but I thought lets ask anyway.
For example: Recently I download a game and forgot to claim my gold-coins. But a few days later it was as if they where added automatically.
I'm in Europe so I'll get a little more time I guess. I'll be buying woolly world with a 20 percent discount and toad with a 40 percent after that.
This is a good discount if you ask me.
@Henmii They're added automatically.As soon as your purchase starts downloading the gold coins appear on MyNintendo.
The Discounts are rubbish , but I do like the downloads . I just want more of them ! I have warioware and I nearly have enough for zelda picross. More 3ds Games please !
Oh no, but all those good rewards!
That new reward system really starts lame to be blunt.
My new discounts are (Europe):
20% off Captain Toad - 600 Platinum
40% off Captain Toad - 100 Gold
10% off Fire Emblem Fates on Release (expires 19th May though) - only 20 Gold coins!
20% off Animal Crossing New Leaf - 600 Platinum
Meh. Who cares.
Rewards just for you!
All games I already own!
Thanks Nintendo, very cleaver!
Oh no, gotta get all of these quick...not.
@ColdingLight Because we talk funny...
@Snargledon Oh yeah... I actually forgot that the game was part of the European Nintendo Selects...
@Xenocity Yeah, I know everybody hated CN. I wasn't very fond of some aspects of it either at the time. But just b/c something was bad, doens't mean this can't be worse. There is no rule that states - "the old thing was bad, therefore the new thing has to be good". I didn't really like Twilight Princes when I played it, then after sleeping thru SKyword Sword I realized TP was awesome.
And my opinion is my own, everybody else wants to like My Nintendo better, that's fine, doesn't mean I have too, I'm no sheep.
And I don't recall a lot of people not liking the DDP, only that it ended. I think most people would rather have a blanket - 1000 plat coins = 15% off any game - rather than how things work now.
So all things considered, I think MN is a step back from what was offered before.
@JaxonH "I've gotten more out of MyNintendo in a month than I got out of CN for a year."
Well, you must have been doing it wrong. Calendars, soundtracks, decks of cards, messenger bag, full games, download games. We got so much stuff out of Club Nintod. 3DS bag, giant 3DS mystery card. No, it wasn't perfect, but I really liked my "Family account", and I had nearly 3,000 coins at the end, they expired after 2 years. Oh, most of those coins were from buying 2 DSi, three 3DS, a Wii and a Wii U. How many coins will I get for purchasing a NX? Or a New 3DS XL? Or a DSNX?
There's nothing I want from the new MN. Now I have said I'll give it time, these things need to roll out slowly, like Splatoon. 8 months from now it could be great, so I'm not throwing in the towel yet, but I dont like it so far. I do think I would feel better if the DDP never existed, but it did. And I dont get all those gold coin boxes, just make it 10% or whatever and be done with it.
I do think ti will gt better, but it isn't there yet.
@JaxonH I dont 'consider Sony to have a club. What they have are great flash sales on a regular basis. They probably dont help you any, you buy what you want when you want, but I bought $50 Godzilla fo r$10 months after it released. And there are many games like Injustice 2 years after release for under $10. Kingdoms of Amular Reckoing, Ni No Kuni, $10 each. XC just released for $19.99, when will that be on sale for $10? You know I'm still waiting for Lego City Undercover to drop from $50, that's a 3 year old game. I bought the entire Mass Effect Trilogy for $5.
OK, more important question - do you think Nintneod will charge for online? I know Sony gets away w/ those sales w/ PS+ money, which I havent subscribed for 2 years so I get great games really cheap w/o paying for that, MS w/ Gold. Maybe Nintendo isn't unveiling NX at E3 b/c they want to sneak out pay to play? Sony was really sneaky about requiring PS+ for online. I think they should have gotten a lot more hate for that. Not for charging for online, but by being sneaky w/ requiring PS+. I'm still not sure what I'lll do abut that when the time comes. I dont play online.
@rjejr
I got good stuff from CN at one time, but that stopped years ago.. The CN I remember was just frustrating. Save all year for platinum, get one decent game. .
But you are right about the coins- I liked coins from physical games and systems (hated the surveys). The reason you had to save them for two years though, was because it took several years for anything good to pop up worth spending them on. When CN went down I had thousands of coins. And didn't want anything they put up. Physical is nice when it's a statue or something. But the stuff they were offering was just trinkets. Gold Nunchuk- now that was an awesome reward. Those were the good days.
I won't say CN was all bad, and I won't say this is all good. I'm just seeing more of an immediate payoff, whereas with CN I only got anything during the annual rewards. It felt better getting coins for every purchase before. But in reality those coins just collected dust. The small games offered each month were mostly old crap for Gameboy VC on 3DS, or for Wii (couldn't give us Wii U games). I'd rather a discount for a great game than a free monochrome GB title or Wii Points download game.
As for Nintendo Plus? Eh, I hope not. I really, really hope not. They're are in a precarious situation situation and an online paywall could do a lot of damage. Or maybe do a lot of good by drawing in other gamers? Idk. They'd have to have a lot of online games to charge though. I don't see it.
@OorWullie,
A pity. That way you can never ad the coins when you actually need them.
@JaxonH "They'd have to have a lot of online games to charge though. I don't see it."
That's a really good point. No reason to pay $50/yr just to play SSB, MK and Splatoon. On the downside, that means no 3rd party online games, and no 3rd party online games means low console sales again. Seems like they lose either way.
Well, I don't like paying for online, but I'm still hoping for Ntinedo+, "Nintendo Selects Play", they need a better way to distribute that back catalog, $5 or $8 each NES and SNS games that everybody already owns seems insane. And they've barely lived up to their VC Gamecube games on Wii U selling point. I know there are a handful, but not many. I'd like to see a VC subscription service as an NX selling point. Even if Nitndo fans already own all of those games, others may not. Rare Replay sold well for $30. Sega has all those Sonic compilations. Time for monthly VC.
@rjejr
NX could have a decent amount of 3rd party games- if the rumors prove true about easy porting and cheap cost, there will probably be, at the very least, a decent selection of choice 3rd party games.
There probably just won't be that many that focus on online. Games like Battleborn or Overwatch... not gonna happen. There will surely be some but I'm guessing most 3rd party games will be single player or the mp mode will not be a focus- therefore not something you can really sell behind a paywall.
Idk, maybe I'm wrong. I honestly don't know how successful NX will be. I think gamers are so fanatical nowadays they will find a reason- any reason- to skip Nintendo. They don't think using logic. I see so many PS4 owners saying "I would buy Wii U if it actually had 3rd party". And I'm thinking, no you wouldn't. Cause you can already play those games. And on a stronger system. And this is why I believe the "core gamer" is a lost cause.
NX will have no more appeal to them than Wii U did. Cause any 3rd party game on the system- they can already play. The only appeal will be the exclusives. Granted, Nintendo could do a better job with the library- slap a Metroid on there. But Metroid is a niche franchise everyone likes to talk about but nobody actually buys. Idk.
@JaxonH "I honestly don't know how successful NX will be."
You know, sometimes I don't like having discussions w/ you b/c I really do feel bad whenever I bring you around to my way of seeing things. But since you bring me up about 10x for every one time I bring you down I keep going.
""I would buy Wii U if it actually had 3rd party". And I'm thinking, no you wouldn't."
Spot on. As long as you are speaking in generalizations, as I'm sure there are people who would buy a Wii U for MK8 and SSB if they could also get Madden, FIFA and COD. Maybe only 7 or 8 though. Though, dads like me getting a first home console for their young sons might be inclined to get a Wii U or NX if it also had games they wanted to play on it. Mario for the kids, COD for the dads. Sometimes wives control the purse strings, husbands only think they do. And a teenager who grew up w/ Nintneod might buy their home console if he could play MGS or GTA. My nephew w/ the Wii played Madden all the time w/ his dad. They never got a Wii U. I think they all have tablets and smartphones and laptops now, that family is never going back to gaming. But if Wii U regularly got Madden I would have talked them into it. And if NX got FFXV at launch I may have passed on PS4 this year. So we can't say 3rd party wouldn't help. Most of the people you talk to, you are spot on, but there are other demographics out there who might buy an NX for kids or teens if it also had the popular 3rd party games.
Now just where is my Cloud amiibo anyway? I thought that could wait to the NX launch in Nov w/ FXV on NX, but surely not next March? Well they did have the Skylanders amiibo at last E3, so I suppose that's possible. Maybe NX will get FF7 or FFXV at E3. Oh wait, no NX at E3. gggggrrrrrrrrr This is why NX needs to be at E3 even if it isn't launching until next March, 3rd party game announcements. What dev is going to bother porting a game to NX if Nintneod won't even let them talk about it at E3? gggrrr I say.
