Re: New Wii U System Update Goes Live Across Europe, North America and Japan

iphys

Playing Wii games on the GamePad is a feature we always should have had. It's a little awkward setting it up on the stand and using a separate controller, but it's a great feature to have if you need your TV for something else or just don't want to waste as much power. I'm really happy they finally added support for USB keyboards, because using the stylus isn't optimal, and even the Wii had keyboard support.

Re: Wii U Family Hardware Bundles Revealed in Japan

Good deal, but Bundle 2 seems a bit silly, as you need a balance board already, and anyone that does would most likely not need a sensor bar or wiimote. Assuming they're doing the same "buy a Fit Meter, get Wii Fit U for free" thing in Japan, I don't see the need for Bundle 2 at all — might as well have done a completely different bundle from Bundle 1 to try to attract a different crowd.

Re: Rayman Legends on Wii U Wins Digital Foundry Face-Off

I think it sold more copies for Wii U simply because Wii U owners have so little choice in game selection at the moment, and this is the highest rated game for it so far, so the majority of Wii U owners will be buying this game. I doubt many 360 or PS3 owners ran out to buy a Wii U just to be able to play this game on the GamePad (if they even gave a thought to buy this game with the piles of 360/PS3 games they likely still need to play).

Re: Preview: Rayman Legends

I'm concerned that only 200,000 people have played the free app, so presumably far less than that will buy the game. I initially had no interest in this game but pre-ordered it after playing the app, so I wasn't one of the people annoyed by all the delays with the game.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th June (North America)

If you read the promo, the 20 bonus coins actually get credited on July 1st, so you won't get a single coin toward this CN year from it, so it's really only good if you want the coins toward your status for next year.

Re: Steel Diver Will Be Nintendo's First Free-To-Play Game

Just please not touchscreen controls again, as it drove me nuts having to look back and forth between screens. If you never played it: imagine if you had to look at your controller every time you wanted to push a button, meanwhile losing track of what's happening on your TV, then looking back at your TV and being in a hurry to react, but then having to look for the controls again to be able to do so, meanwhile losing track of what's happening on the TV again, and so on.

Re: Review: Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (3DS eShop / Game Gear)

iphys

Maybe it's just that I always have Tetris on the brain, but I always think of this game as constructing tetrominoes, which I find more interesting than just lining things up like Columns or Dr Mario. The Scenario mode can be beaten by luck rather than skill though, and it's not very engrossing, so it's kind of weird that something called Exercise mode feels like it's the real heart of the game. It's definitely worth the $3 though.

Re: Impressions: The Best Buy "Nintendo Experience"

iphys

Yeah, I had a surprising amount of fun, despite waiting over an hour and a half to try out Mario Kart 8. The streetpasses were awesome, I played MK7 with a big group of people, and the loot was great too. They should have had more demo stations, so people could try all 4 games though.

Re: Review: Columns (3DS eShop / Game Gear)

iphys

I don't think there's really a difficulty spike. On easy, you can basically just mindlessly fill up columns and count on things to clear by chance, so the speed barely matters, but even with more colours, there's time to shift after touching the stack, so even though the speed looks fast, it's still quite playable, especially if you're consistently clearing stuff to buy yourself extra time and take advantage of the piece preview to plan ahead.

Re: Iwata Issues Apology For Technical Difficulties With Nintendo Direct Live Stream

iphys

I couldn't access it from Nintendo's site at first, so came to Nintendo Life, but it was lagging like crazy, so I went back to Nintendo's site and got the stream there finally. It was still lagging like crazy, and then it suddenly went off air about 40 minutes in when it should have ended, but it wasn't at the end yet. I had to rewatch the entire thing on youtube after, and there was about 8 minutes that Nintendo had never bothered to stream at the end, I'm guessing because I was 8 minutes behind from all the lag when it actually ended.
