Really enjoying all the modes, but damn does a splatfest bring all the sweats to the yard. Where are they sweating the rest of the time? It’s not fun getting wiped out by players playing like their lives depend on it, certainly wasn’t like this a couple of weeks ago. Just makes me want the event to be over they can crawl back to Roblox or whatever toxic swamp they came from.
@dkxcalibur not at all. While the latest £800 smart watch will be £100 in 5 years time, crippled by progressive software updates and requiring constant charging, this will be at least double its price on the secondary market, and perhaps a battery change aside, working as it did on the day it was made. It’s consumers that don’t know what they’re doing. £130 is literally nothing in the watch world; G shock don’t appear to be charging much if anything for the branding on top of what they’d charge for the base model. I’ll definitely be getting one
So glad to see the level headed comments here, it’s genuinely refreshing. Tin foil hats lose their minds over this, but what naughty Nintendo might be up to surreptitiously tracking your eshop searches and purchases is about as threatening to your civil liberties as a stickup with a water pistol. The only way to go off grid is close down everything and move to somewhere under a thick tree canopy. Which is what some intrepid people do, and more power to them, if that’s what they want to do.
@Retro_Player_77 dude “AAA” games are things like Call Of Duty, World Of Warcraft, or for NIntendo, Mario Odyssey, Animal Crossing etc. These are indies, with the exception of Gollum, the exact polar opposite to triple AAA’s.
@TG16_IS_BAE the ending is absolutely fine, I understand the comment the reviewer makes, but it’s all in keeping with the rest of the game. It’s a satisfying end.
Great game (played and completed on Apple Arcade). The dev says there is new content and a whole bunch of tweaks and updates, so I for one will be purchasing again. It definitely took longer than 4 hours for me to finish, but maybe mileage will vary depending puzzle solving ability / appetite for secrets. But above all, it’s just bloody gorgeous, and the story will proper punch you in the feels.
There are fewer items more iconically 80’s than an original game boy. I think it’s an ok design and in keeping with the 2077 brand, but it’s seriously lacking some neon glow! Needs to be more ‘future’, like an element or two that’s clearly beyond any technology we have available to us right now.
Average salary is a pointless metric. Removing directors, you still have executives, department heads, senior managers, middle management, lower management, analysts, Developers, programmers, service reps, IT staff, and countless other broad roles between which there will be a large disparity of pay.
As a coop experience, it’s fantastic. It’s really streamlined, I love the enchantment points system, it’s a perfect gateway into ARPG’s which I now can play with my young son. It’s never going to beat more established games of this type, but it’s just fun, and that’s the main point. I started playing ARPG’s since Diablo 1 on Win 95, and this kinda rekindles that feeling of satisfying simple action and exploration. Also, the graphics are incredible... at least on the PS4 Pro, colours really pop and looks near 4K at 60fps to my eyes. The Switch version looks a bit poor in comparison, also if you have the choice, go large.
Its true of bigger releases, but it’s worth mentioning that the Switch version of MC:D won’t be on par with the other console versions; I’ve followed this one eagerly from the start and was disappointed to learn Switch is 30fps / lower resolution. Might be something to consider if you’re planning couch coop with a lot of hectic action on screen, and have a beefier console to play it on.
What this means is that one day, the Switch will be able to play games made on UE5. It does not mean that those games will look different in any meaningful way to the ones which already exist running on UE4. Nintendo’s philosophy on hardware upgrades is conservative, to put it kindly and respectfully.
I like it when people are triggered by reading “3DS”, and it causes them to immediately stop reading (even the remainder of the sentence) to hit the comments section.
This is pretty old news but would have been cool to have it on 3DS with stereoscopic 3D... but this would never have happened anyway due to minuscule power of the device. Actually is making me nostalgic about my 3DS, so much love for that thing.
Anyway the kicker here is that the physical retail versions all appear to be close to £40. So I’ll be going digital. Another kicker is that the Switch version runs at 30fps and low resolution / feeble lighting, compared to the other versions. Obviously not an issue if Switch is your only console but for hectic ARPGs it’s 60fps or bust for me (Diablo 3 is a godsend of a port). It’s also 4K/60fps on the X1 and PS4Pro, which has swayed my decision.
@CTmatic agreed. Just like in real life. This is why I don’t bother wearing clothes. When do I even see myself anyway? like 5 minutes in the morning and then in the evening. And people spend so much money on fine clothes, the fools lol
@Dezzy I agree it’s ridiculous. It’s not like Doom has pioneered multiplayer since the 90’s, or gave birth directly and indirectly to fps’ in which creating and swapping custom skins became an integral part of gaming culture 20 years before Fortnite, or anything like that. Who would even want to play Doom multiplayer? What are the devs even smoking?
two of the best FPS’ ever, IMO. But unless you’ve only got a switch, they regularly are under £4 each on the PlayStation store, and you get 60fps / 4K, fancy textures, lighting and fog. But this looks great for what it is, a mobile port.
I hate mobile games. I hate platform games on mobile. I LOVED Goblin Sword on iOS. Great to see it appearing on Switch at a nice price. Hopefully sales will be good and a sequel will be planned.
One of the very best 2D platformers (kinda). Still can’t believe I finished it - my Joy Cons were absolutely fine when I first installed it, absolute busted drifting mess by the time the credits rolled. True story, I don’t even regret it.
@MarzipanD D4 won’t come to the Switch. I’ll be hugely surprised if it arrives on XB1 or PS4, despite this weekend’s statements it will. The online only / MMO aspect aside, the leaks (which have turned out to be true) reference focus on PC/PS5/nextBox due to the demands of the engine, the scale of the world, possible ray tracing, the detail etc. The trailers show extremely detailed environments, literally a decade away from 2012’s D3, if we are to reasonably expect a Late 2021 / early 2022 release. Not trying to be a party pooper, I think D3 plays it’s very best on Switch, but realistically, it’ll require beefcake hardware.
As a PS4 and Switch owner, I am looking forward to it on Switch as it’s a natural fit for long RPG games. But it’s going to be tough not to opt for a 4K PS4 version for £20, versus an inevitable £40 Switch release with barely acceptable performance, blurry textures and low resolution. I just wish companies would port these games over at a friendlier price point, and/or with additional stuff. Will have to wait and see how this pans out.
@sanderev this. Psychological addictions and compulsions are real things, but they are very different to chemical addictions, especially when the body has accustomed to a chemical stimulus. I’ve never really understood addictions in general, when I want to stop doing something, I just stop, there is no puppet master controlling my limbs. But that’s just me.
£8.90?!?!?! 🤯 I duly allow Nintendo to take me for a mug, but I draw a line at obscene shipping costs. And honestly Nintendo have so much money they could subsidise that charge on such a limited quantity item.
Waited so long for this... kinda bummed out. Playing it on Apple Arcade, the terrible controls aside, it feels like something that exists in the £5-£10 (at a push) range. I’m sure the dev will take the feedback and it'll play better in a year or so, but it doesn’t feel like a finished final product. would have been gutted to have forked our £20 for it in this state.
Can’t wait for this, but I’m disappointed it’s going to be £20 on Switch, especially as it’s coming out on iOS Arcade, and will be free for a month via the trial. I know I can’t speak for everyone but I’ve got an iPad Pro meaning I’ll also be able to play it on 4K (via USB C) with a bt controller. I’m all for supporting the dev and hopefully will love it enough to purchase, but again, it’ll probably cost far less on other stores.
Glad to see Cuphead doing so well. I’ve wanted it for years and it’s even better than I had hoped. The art, animation and music are all outstanding, and most of the boss battles are clever, tricky but fair. Just over 80% through, there’s been a few exasperating moments but I’ve kept coming back for more without hesitation. Just really not looking forward to the two big boss battles at the end... 😫
Really? Wow. Firstly, I don’t think this is true. Because no sane business would be so absurd... yes, let’s shell our profits... makes perfect sense. Secondly, how, exactly, would third parties go about implementing this intangible sentiment of being ‘kinder’ to vulnerable mobile gaming addicts? Halve the prices of gold/points/tokens? Only allow people to spend money on boosts once a day? Seriously, someone log in to WSJ and read the whole article and explain it to me like I’m an idiot because maybe I’m missing something critical.
@SwitchForce Wow. Why don’t you yell at the sky too? I’m sorry buddy, I can’t fix the world problems or tell everyone how to be nice and play fair, but I can tell you that all that gaming tech you enjoy... you wouldn’t have it without investors, big corporations, board room meetings where living people are referred to as consumers. Not sure how you’ve leapt from this... to ^^that... but good luck out there.
@Heavyarms55 Successful investors not only know the products, market, supply chains but also are passionate about the products and services too. It’s not all about men in suits with briefcases and false smiles trying to make quick money, but those shady characters play an important part too in the process that turns ideas into the virtual worlds that have enhanced our lives over the years. You seem angry without adequate appreciation of the whole picture - and I get that, it’s almost soothing to rage at ‘the machine’ and all it’s ethically dubious qualities. But if you disagree, you’re free to just play games that were made at indie jams and released by the devs themselves. Furthermore, if you despise financial services that much, you probably should consider not having a bank account, using credit agreements and so forth. Money isn’t the root of evil, people are, whether they’re rich or poor. I don’t invest, by the way.
Anyone who thinks Nintendo will release this under £50 does not understand business, or product design. Which is fine! Not everyone knows everything!
But realistically, this is going to be a quality product which will be able to survive drop tests, and probably will have a production cost of £15-20 - as an estimate. A must-have product (for kids especially) like this is going to have a retail value of £50 - I mean, its not like the kids are saving pocket money, their parents who have already shelled out for the Switch and the game are.
This is business. Nintendo aren’t trying to be your friend, we are consumers. And there isn’t anything wrong with that in a a free market.
@kyleforrester87 Respect! I bet you did (have mad skills). I've nailed the first three bosses, of which the Bird Dude was the most frustrating. Those blazing fast pink crossword floor panels of instant death...
I think it's possibly my favourite game ever. About 3/4 way through NG+ mode on PS4, looking forward to doing it all over again on Switch. Hope its 60fps locked.
I really really wanted to love this game, but in the end I became very bored. The combat / puzzles / story are Zelda-like, and that's fine if you don't have a 3DS... but next to A Link Between Worlds... there's no competition.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Because: business sense. Millions and millions of MH fans who own a 3DS can buy, then upgrade later when they get a Switch. Also, this is healthier for the multiplayer community instead of fragmenting it. Also, some people may just want to play on 3DS? There are times when it's appropriate to slip a 3DS into your back pocket rather than chuck your Switch into your backpack. I'll be getting copies for both platforms, and, on the topic of aesthetics, I love the 3DS' 'retro' graphics, and 3D.
@Abylight This looks great. Thank you for pulling out the stops to achieve 3D + 60fps. I have a Switch too but quite honestly, given the choice, would still get this on 3DS for the 3D.
@nilcam I don't dislike BoTW, however, while I feel its a good game, I don't feel its a very good Zelda game. It abandons the core Nintendo game design philosophy at the heart of the older Zelda games - a series of challenges, progressively leading to a climax, all wrapped in a compelling story. In comparison, BoTW focuses on the experience, the story, over puzzles, challenges. It gives players a huge map and scatters these little samey puzzles everywhere, there's far less genius behind it all, the overall structure, the simpler mechanics of the entire game. There is no 'mastermind' overview at work, and once you've spent enough hours to dispel the magic of the open world (i.e. understand the rules of the game), it begins to feel... tedious. Another shrine, another Koro seed, another weapon... another puzzle you can fudge with the janky physics. It's all more akin to an Elder Scrolls game than Zelda. Never mind.
Untold hours, unspeakable amounts of money and monstrous water-cooled machines... all in order to pirate what is readily available on a cheap handheld console.
You know, the technical accomplishment is one thing, but being unable to see the wood for the trees is another.
I agree it makes a lot of sense. Want to play Sun&Moon? You're welcome. The hardware looks great, and no doubt taps into Nintendo's vast stockpile of internal components that otherwise would go to waste. There's a huge market for 2/3DS. Heck, I own a Switch and still play more on my N3DS - Mario Maker, Terraria are wonderful with a pen, and as for actual 3D, MH4U still draws me back every few weeks. The 3D never ceases to amaze me. I'd love Nintendo to release a new 3DS, but it's unlikely. This is their best way forward.
@Rocossa Agreed. So disappointing. I was holding out for a true 'survival mode' that rebalanced the game world, added effects like hunger, sleep deprivation... a mode requiring work by the dev team that would justify a price tag. Nope. Just make the bad guys harder.
Because it makes business sense. Why move on from selling a huge library of popular games, when you can re-vitalise interest, flog Pokemon some more, and use up an unimaginable stockpile of leftover hardware internals? Compared when they've projected as standing to make, the hardware refresh is a tiny splash - they've set the stage for another 3-5 years of 2D/3DS support/sales.
Also, kids. My little lad has a 2DS. I'd buy this for him over a Switch any day, as it's more robust and simpler, even if the price is closer to a Switch.
I'm a huge From fan, but also a parent, meaning my gaming habits have naturally reduced to handheld sessions, as and when I have time. I held off getting DS3 specifically because of Switch rumors. It's plausible that it would arrive, but I know From would have a big issue with the rubbish joy cons. It would be essential to use a Pro Controller (which I find extremely comfortable and responsive).

I'll be getting copies for both platforms, and, on the topic of aesthetics, I love the 3DS' 'retro' graphics, and 3D.

Re: Abylight Has Just Submitted The 3DS Port Of Maldita Castilla EX To Nintendo
@Abylight This looks great. Thank you for pulling out the stops to achieve 3D + 60fps. I have a Switch too but quite honestly, given the choice, would still get this on 3DS for the 3D.
Re: Eiji Aonuma Aims to Keep Surprising Fans with The Legend of Zelda
Never mind.
Re: Cemu Wii U Emulator Version 1.7.5 Shows Daunting Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Untold hours, unspeakable amounts of money and monstrous water-cooled machines... all in order to pirate what is readily available on a cheap handheld console.
You know, the technical accomplishment is one thing, but being unable to see the wood for the trees is another.
Re: Talking Point: Weighing Up the Logic Behind the New Nintendo 2DS XL
Re: Nintendo Reveals "The Master Trials", the First DLC Pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
@Rocossa Agreed. So disappointing. I was holding out for a true 'survival mode' that rebalanced the game world, added effects like hunger, sleep deprivation... a mode requiring work by the dev team that would justify a price tag. Nope. Just make the bad guys harder.
Re: New Nintendo 2DS XL Announced, Releases 28th July
@MrGamerClock64
Re: Rumour Buster: No, GameSpot Didn't Just Reveal Dark Souls 3 For Nintendo Switch
