Hecc yes moar picross, moar retro game references, bring it on.
I've been playing the Game Boy game Picross 2 (with unofficial English translation) lately, coming to the end of that then I'll be back on uh whatever the Switch game is called that has all the puzzles from the 3DS picross games. This Namco one will add some nice variation.
IIRC Bubby and Bobby were the names given to the human versions in Rainbow Islands, I guess someone wanted to keep consistency between the two game descriptions.
I'm assuming this is going to have the same non-original music as the Arcade Archives release of Rainbow Islands, so "it's a no from me".
Adding to the indies-to-bash-out-in-one-session suggestions: Donut County. Fun little story and enjoyable gameplay that's over before it gets too repetitive.
@Troubbble sounds like you gave it enough of a chance to form a valid opinion, so I guess it's just not your thing. For me it hit the right buttons to thoroughly enjoy it, even the weird art style grew on me.
I'm not even sure what Diablo gameplay is without going and looking it up, but the other influences, the charming look and the Ron Gilbert are enough for me to be on board.
I can vouch that the game is well worth playing for the game, especially if you're a fan of puzzle platformers. So even if you don't want to listen to Blow's commentary, you can still enjoy a great game. IDK if I want to listen to said commentary or not.
Also if you're a completionist, there's a star that can be missed if you pass a certain point of progress without getting it. Was very annoying when I found that one out.
Metacritic currently at 71 critic rating and 6.8 user rating, so probably worth a go with the people I want to play it with who are also fans of the anime.
More than once you refer to designing 3D levels as "a bit" more complicated than 2D ones. It's orders of magnitude more complicated, at least for the 64/odyssey type of 3D. Yes there are some talented individuals out there who make excellent levels, but it would not come anywhere near close enough to the mainstream accessibility of 2D level design for Nintendo to consider making it as a game offering, even if they were willing to do all the work involved.
3D Land/World style might work at a push, but I still don't believe they'd do it.
Aren't Microids the ones who horribly murdered Flashback 2? Sounds like months later it still isn't fixed and they've stopped updating it. So I'd suggest caution, wait to see if they bother finishing this one before dropping money on it.
Whatever, let them get on with it. I just hope they've learned their lesson and will stop buying up other perfectly good studios only to shut them down later.
Cute icons, even if seeing baby Mario causes flashbacks of that annoying crying. If nobody else is gonna say it, I feel obliged to mention that Yoshi's Island is well worth spending time actually playing because it's amazing.
Nobody survives the handheld console market besides Nintendo. I'm guessing they'll go streaming rather than full-fat, but they're probably testing both. Full-fat would probably be competing more with the Steam Deck, which is doing well in its own niche.
I started the Simon the Sorcerer Origins trailer, and listened for that voice - and there it was. This fogey is happy they got Chris Barrie back to voice Simon. Hopefully the game will live up to the originals.
You can have your own arbitrary definitions of words if you want to, but maybe don't criticise someone's article for using the standard widely-accepted definition instead.
@Chibi you said the article was incorrect, without any mention of opinion. You disagreed with my statements about how the term has actually been used, so I thought you might want to show something to back up your "alternative facts" usage, but you're welcome to check wikipedia or any of the dictionaries for definitions that never say anything about who's doing the porting, its official status or lack thereof.
I see Flashback 2 in there... It was one I foolishly let myself get my hopes up for, before reading how trashy it was on other platforms. Have they at least fixed most of the bugs and performance issues on those now?
I read a rumour/supposed leak elsewhere saying that Nintendo are planning a major Metroid marketing push for around May, which I'd hope would mean dropping MP2 (with 3 either simultaneously or announced for a bit later), and starting a full hype train for MP4 rolling as well, whether that would be timed for Christmas or even early next year. This supposed leak came from a guy who was totally right about the MP1 remaster existing, but totally wrong about when it released.
I only got around to playing ALBW last year, but I've since been saying that not only should they give it an HD port, but they should then use that really fun engine to MAKE NEW 2D ZELDA GAMES! I also think WW/TP (world wide toilet paper?) are pretty safe bets as schedule fillers, and I'd be happy to have them as I haven't played them yet.
Comments have mentioned Mario Galaxy 2, I still really want that too, loved playing the first one on Switch.
I haven't played the remake yet. I'd already made some progress on the GBA original fairly recently but before the remake was announced, then decided I'd probably move over to the Switch version instead. But I'm surprised to learn from comments, as it wasn't mentioned in the review, that the scoring system from the original has been removed, when getting all the stars on a level was the main challenge, plus fall damage is removed. Makes me think I might keep going on the GBA instead, then maybe check out the new Switch levels after that if I'm still interested.
Gutted about Flashback 2, shouldn't have got my hopes up I guess but it was top of my anticipated list. Sounds like a lot of the problem with it is bugs, not gonna hold out too much hope of the Switch version launching in a vastly fixed state compared to the others, but maybe it'll get there in the end (do Microids have a track record of fixing bugs?). Apparently beyond bugs the gameplay isn't that great either, but maybe it'll eventually be worth plodding through for weird nostalgia purposes. Or something.

Picross 3D 1 & 2, plus a new entry to make it a trilogy.

I've said it before about ALBW - port it to HD, but then also use the really fun-to-play engine to MAKE NEW GAMES!
