Re: Soapbox: Metroid’s Mother Brain And The Rewind Dilemma

Each to their own, play how you enjoy, use the helper features if you want to.

I generally don't want to, there are exceptions but with the Metroid series I choose to challenge myself to beat it like the original experience. I haven't yet played through the original NES and Game Boy games, but when I do I'll do my best to clear them without aids.

Zero Mission I played through on the 3DS, so without emulation niceties. It was quite a while ago, but I seem to remember finding the Mother Brain fight frustrating and challenging, but kept at it and felt a lot of satisfaction from beating it. I don't think I did 100% items back then, plus it's a great game, so I'm intending to play it again at some point - this time on my GBA fitted with a lit ITA screen (taken from a DSi), so again no emulation perks.

Re: Soapbox: How Does Your Personality Affect Your Gaming?

I don't "Gotta go fast", I "Gotta systematically explore every nook and cranny so I don't miss anything". I like to try and 100%, and feel some frustration when I can't, I feel it's a shame when a game I really enjoyed has achievements that are way beyond my capability (finish VVVVVV without dying once etc). I like puzzle games, I don't like looking up solutions for stuff and would rather try and figure it out myself even if it takes forever, and therefore have a whole bunch of games that I want to finish but am stuck on. Am interested tho to see if I could change that for something like Animal Well where the dev's intention is for people to collaborate online.

I don't do spreadsheets/written records to track my gaming, but I do get nerdy about working my way through certain series etc (currently playing through all the Zeldas, have an ongoing mission to get through all the Metroids etc).

Re: An Unofficial 'Club Nintendo' Anthology Is Hitting Kickstarter Next Month

I got myself a couple of small things and the Zelda Picross 3DS game from Club Nintendo, but when it was reaching its end, some very generous fellow member of another gaming site offered to use their accumulated points to get rewards for people. They got me a really nice soft grey pouch for my N3DS, it still lives in it. People can be great.

Re: Talking Point: Is Shovel Knight Now A Retro Gaming Icon?

hippydave

He's an icon, no doubt. Not retro yet tho. Another 5 or 10 years, I don't know which, will have to see how I feel at the time. Safe to say, retro = subjective.

I had a lot of fun with this game, then stopped most of the way through, then came back to it later, had more fun, but couldn't get past the boss rush. Was frustrating to get stuck so near the end. May have to give it another go one day.

Re: Hands On: 'LEGO Horizon' Builds A Welcome Entry Point To Sony's Series

Oh it's Ashly Burch, she's great in Mythic Quest (hilarious show, especially for gamers), so I don't doubt she can pull off a funny version of the character. Haven't played the main Horizon games yet but I might try this, I haven't played the main Lego games either so idk if I'll be into the building and stuff, but looks fun generally.
