Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th June)

I'm playing Indian Jones. I like it, but find the goals in the open world lacking in motivation sometimes. That being said, it is beautiful and runs well! Looking forward to finish it though. Feel like playing fire emblem engage, but lets see, the backlog is huge! I have been stuck with Indy for weeks. The world cup does not make that better

I just finished Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. Loved it!! So creative, the world feels very zelda, awesome music, good visuals. I did not expect it to be so good. Last summer i played link's awakening and didnt like it half as much.

This weekend i will probably start Indiana Jones. But let's see, the weather is spectacular!

Re: Square Enix Wants To Further Promote Its Multi-Platform Strategy, Especially On Switch 2

hanzel

I especially hope they bring their new games onto the Switch 2! But it does seem so, so I am quite happy about that I'd also think that the Nintendo audience aligns well with their target group.

I preordered Adventures of Elliot after playing the demo. Regarding FF7, i will wait until they publish a conplete pack, like Capcom did for Resident Evil. Not rrally interested in FF online

Re: BioShock Creator: Switch 2 Proves Graphics Have Reached "Diminishing Returns"

@michellelynn0976 At 70$ a game, they will need to sell around 45 mio games to break even (they dont keep all the profit). Given that there are currently around 130 mio ps5s and xboxes out, they could make it with this pool alone. Also they will earn money with live service and such.

So i doubt that the pressure will be too high to focus on the switch 2. They will expand their base with the PC. I dont see them prioritizing the switch 2.

Re: BioShock Creator: Switch 2 Proves Graphics Have Reached "Diminishing Returns"

hanzel

Graphics has several purposes:

  • Awe and beauty: I remember when I played Max Payne 2 and it was the first game where you could see your reflection in a mirror. That was long ago. Not so long ago i played Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and thought wow, these forests are so real!! Or Cyberpunk 2077, fully immersing you in the city.
  • Actual mechanics: The crazy shadows in Resident Evil serve the purpose of making the game scary!

However. Most games are hollow. They might look better, but they feel empty. The better graphics serve no purpose.

So I dont really care about graphics anymore, I prefer a great art vision, good story, great gameplay. But when graphics serve a purpose, it gives a game this boost that it needs to be considered truly great. And I am quite certain that GTA 6 will have that. Most games dont need it though.

I am giving Metroid Prime 4 another chance, this time it clicks better. I am not claiming it to be the best game i ever tried, but its alright. The visuals are great, though!

I reached a major mile stone for learning japanese Kanji (Wanikani Level 30) and continue to follow my course. So I have two goodies I will allow myself at this point:
1. Read Manga in Japanese (I ordered quite some)
2. Play a game in Japanese (not sure which one though. Maybe Mario, maybe Pokemon?)

Re: EA Sports Madden NFL 27 Is On Its Way To Switch 2

hanzel

@SoIDecidedTo I so agree with you! I used to play Madden on the Xbox and it was just fun. Now it is soulless somehow. Everything is so overloaded.

Also with Fifa, i dont remember anyone who played fifa 98 saying fifa 07 was garbage. It became more modern, but they kept the game fun. But now it is so different.

This became so obviously focused on making money and not on having a quick and fun game.

This is why i put my hopes in the mario sports series for this season. The tennis one is fun for a quick play

I have finished a playthrough of Fire Emblem Three Houses. If you did not play this, I highly endorse it. What a great story, good gameplay, amazing anime cutscenes. Never had this on my radar before. So hyped for the newest one!!!

Now i started Metroid Prime 4 again. I left it at some point and i have yet to feel the game...want to give it another chance

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th April)

hanzel

@Ganner so i needed about 1-2 hrs to understand the game. If you are spooked by the mechanics, please dont be. The game has a casual mode. The casual mode just means your characters dont die forever and you can do endless mock battles. So if you feel the game is to difficult, you just up your stats in those. I would say the game is quite accomodating to beginners in that way.

I cant speak for Fire Emblem Engage. Already ordered it, but i will finish three houses first.

I am glad i found the franchise and i think this is among the best nintendo has to offer

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th April)

hanzel

I have ordered Fire Emblem Three Houses second hand on the internet, because you dont find the physical anymore.

I have never tried the series. It is bombastic and i have such a good time. One of the best games I have played in recent years. Just wow. In depth story, in depth characters. The presentation is like an anime. The fighting is fun. Never even played a JRPG before. I love it!!! Already sunk 30h into it. I am hooked.

Re: Mario Galaxy Movie Helps Franchise Surpass $2 Billion At Global Box Office

hanzel

@AussieMcBucket I think in the comments so far everyone (including me) went to the cinema and liked it. It made bank!

But objectively, at the same time, it was economically worse than its predecessor. And while i enjoyed the movie, i think that is also the case for how i view them in enjoyment. I think it is fair to point that out and still enjoy.

This notwithstanding, I already look forward to the next Mario movie!! And to Zelda

Re: Mario Galaxy Movie Helps Franchise Surpass $2 Billion At Global Box Office

hanzel

@Friendly there is a dedicated subreddit called BoxOffice. They track numbers. Also there are websites. And they compare how the second movie behaved against the first movie, as they were released during a similar time. I am not saying it wont make money anymore or it is not a success. But it is not as good as the first movie, both in terms of enjoyment and in sales. The current prediction is maybe 1 billion. As you see in the article, the first movie ended at 1,3 billion.

I have such a huge backlog my preordering games like Pragmata doesnt help

Currently I am playing Super Mario Galaxy. The movie was indeed the push I had it for the Wii, but for some reason I never played it. Now that i actually play it, I am surprised how similar to Mario 64 it feels. The camera is annoying, but the game itself is great!

Also i take Pokopia out sometimes

Re: Review: Pragmata (Switch 2) - A Dazzling Puzzle-Shooter Driven By A Heartfelt Friendship

hanzel

I have played the demo twice. The first time didnt click. The second time did. So I preordered.

Reading this review and others, i have no reason to cancel my preorder. Sounds awesome!

The review didnt say much about the post game though, while others insinuated that it would be worthwile. For the moment i am happy this is not a 100h game

Capcom is on a roll! I hope it reflects in sales numbers for them as well. Their take on the switch 2 has been stellar and i think it will pay off eventually. Long legs

Re: 007 First Light Shaken By Delay On Switch 2, Now Releasing After Other Consoles

hanzel

@MoldyPasta I did not preorder digitally and have not yet done that. Also i did not buy a deluxe edition or whatever they are called ever.

That being said, I preordered the physical game key card version. I am interested in the game and want to play it. I will likely cancel and wait. But i can also cancel shortly before, so i just leave my order open for now. I'm playing them too

My concern is that there is no reason given on the delay. Which signals bad things to me...
