Aspyr Media has finally rolled out an update for Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy on the Switch. It reportedly fixes the cross-play bug, which allowed PC players to join the same servers as Nintendo players.
Version 1.0.2 also includes additional multiplayer security and some minor bug fixes. Here are the full patch notes, courtesy of Twisted Voxel:
– Resolved various multiplayer issues to improve the player experience
– Implemented additional multiplayer security code
– Minor bug fixes
Speaking to USgamer last week, Aspyr said it was "fully committed" to delivering a great gaming experience, so if any other issues pop up, they should be resolved relatively quick.

Whoops, at least now it's fixed. Weren't there people saying this may have been intentional?
@Kalmaro Anything you can think of, ask enough people and you'll find someone that believes it.
@NotoriousWhiz Fair point.
Still can’t play with friends online.
Did they make it so you can play online with friends? Party play? Join/invite?
This game is a scam. NintendoLife should report on the broken and missing features.
@gojiguy What missing features? Its straight port of the PC version is it not? Even has the same bugs and anything the PC version lacked this version lacks. A lot of features you think its missing are most likely stuff modded into it because this game has a big constant PC community what have largely shaped what the PC version is today.
Personally I couldn't care less about some online gaming invite feature, it's about as much of a non-issue as a feature can get IMO. I got this game entirely for the single player experience, the multiplayer has always been little more than a bonus that I don't really care about.
Some people do care about it though!
@Boxmonkey Yeah it's good that they are patching this game for those people, but this whole attitude of "grr, every reviewer should have slammed this game over the online issues" feels like a flawed at best mentality. People buying this game for online multiplayer with their friends is a very niche at best audience.
@WallyWest you can't play with someone you know. You can only play online with randoms. That's a huge missing features and it's available on PS4!
And it's missing custom matches which is terrible.
@JayJ except it's not. I know you're probably a kid so you don't get it, but when this game came out it was played 99% for online multi and that's what it's legacy is. People still play this game online on PC original release. It's a multiplayer game that happens to have a campaign mode for most people.
@gojiguy Speak for yourself dude, I remember when this game came out and I used to play it all the time in single player on PC's. You seem to be confusing your personal experience and what you and your friends did with what everyone else enjoyed. Try not to assume how everyone likes to play their video games and force your values upon them, it's a rude thing to do, much like your condescending attitude in general.
@gojiguy Well you're clearly old and don't get it, so concluding that someone doesn't get it because they're a kid is a flawed deduction. Not to mention that assuming someone is a kid in the first place is a flawed basis for deduction. Basically your logic is wrong in every way possible.
@JayJ
Pot meet kettle. You use anecdotal evidence that the game was mostly purchased for SP then criticize the opposite based on the same reasoning? Him just calling you a kid was weak as well. But, you can't say yourself what it was bought for by everyone else based on your personal experience neither! Try not to contradict your main point in the same comment, might help you win debates easier. It's a silly, meaningless debate anyways. Like who cares really? Games should be reviewed as a complete product. You can disclaim in a review that SP is fine and as MP is a mess. If not, then do separate SP and MP reviews like some sites do with newer games. But for a game this old, that would be kind of dumb. The debate police has spoken.
@Trmn8r Well you seem to be forgetting how media reviews are not an objective medium, subjectivity is a natural occurance when dealing with something like video games. In that case we both have vaid points, but the fact remains that a preference for online gaming shouldn't hold bearing how how somebody can enjoy the game otherwise.
Yes it can. It’s 2020 and MP is an important aspect of gaming. They seem to feel the same as they incorporated it into the game. Delivering a half working MP is weak and should be fixed. I don’t get why this is such a big issue for you JayJ.
@Nintendo_Dandy Not an issue for me today as this isn't a modern game, this is a game from 2003, over 15 years ago. If I need to go into details as to how online gaming has changed since then you seem to be lost. Fact remains that I enjoyed it for it's single player and people moaning about the online gaming aspect in this day and age is just ridiculous and total non-issue for me and no shortage of fans. Especially considerig how many people loved it for it's single player, you are really streteching when you imply online as a priority.
I tried to play online yesterday and the game crashed. They should “improve” the online experience, by adding more options. So far, they’re only emulating the PC version
How is taking out cross play 'improving the experience'?
@JayJ You seem to be missing the point that this is a 2020 re-release of a 2003 game. Past standards have no meaning when re-releasing a game, as re-releases should be brought up to modern standards when it makes sense to do so without ruining what made the original game so special (which isn't the case here). It's already bad enough that they didn't bother to remaster the graphics, but not updating the online infrastructure is incredibly lazy, especially when they actually did do so for the PS4 version.
@Moon The issue is that PC players have a control scheme that naturally allows them to play better and therefore have a significant unfair advantage in online multiplayer against console players.
@BulbasaurusRex You seem to be very caught up on your own values and expectations while being very dismissive of others. I get how online is a big deal to some people but it isn't a valid reason to slam the game when it has a ton of fans who simply enjoyed it for the single player. I would simply consider that something to take note of if you are the type of person who holds that to a high priority.
@BulbasaurusRex if only that was fully true, i play some multiplayer games on pc with a controller and still win.
@JayJ I prefer the single player campaign myself, but it doesn't matter how many people enjoy the game just for the single player campaign. As long as there are even some players that enjoy the multiplayer, they deserve to have it brought up to modern standards, just as all the players should've received the game with updated graphics. This port was just absolutely lazy, while they had the gall to charge you double that of the current price of the practically identical original PC version. Unless you really like the Switch's motion controls or really want to be able to play it on the go, anyone is better off just getting the original PC version from someplace like Steam.
@DarkLloyd For this specific game (and most FPS games), it is fully true, though. Not that you can't still win once in a while on console, but most games had the PC players absolutely dominating the console players.
@BulbasaurusRex Well I don't think a game should be reviewed poorly simply because there might be some people who have a different opinion about it. If those people feel so strongly to influence everyone maybe they should become professional writers and review the game themselves. Until then they should just accept the fact that reviews are always going to be subjective and based off the critics opinion.
@JayJ This isn't just a minority opinion. It's undeniable to most people that the game is an extremely lazy port that made little to no effort to modernize in the ways that a new release in the year 2020 should've done so. Even if you only rarely play multiplayer, the lack of modern features quickly becomes disappointing, and the single player campaign likewise has its own issues. Reviews for such re-releases absolutely should be marked down for such pathetic laziness.
@BulbasaurusRex Well that is just, like, your opinion man.
