@subpopz if you're into switch you're into portability. There's no other reason you'd buy the switch version of a game. Granted, that appears to be a decently sizeable market, but still. That's the only reason. It can only go so far. More than Wii U, sure. But more than the N64? Not a chance, and for a company that consolidated their development teams and put all their eggs in one basket, it's suicide.
As a Nintendo console owner this would be terrifying.
For PS/XB owners, it's a natural progression. There's nothing more convenient than showing up to my friends house, signing into his XBox and downloading the latest title to play over there, all while accessing my save point from the cloud.
I love this. From the same fan base that once swore up and down they'd stop gaming altogether before they paid for any online service. Or participated in achievements. Or pay to play. Or, or, or....
Throw a Nintendo logo on it, feature Mario in it, and the stories start to change drastically.
@PanurgeJr you're making all that up literally because it's me and I, for some reason, absolutely wreck you every time I comment. You won't purchase any of those games and we both know it.
@PanurgeJr 55 other games, eh? I bet we all fondly recall (and are still playing) all 55. Quality over quantity amirite?
Also, it's a nothingburger LITERALLY because it's Sony, the market leader, and they can afford to do that. They are the video game industry. When you're top dog, you call the shots.
Nintendo (and MS) simply cannot afford to pull such a move.
Kick rocks, junior. Grown folks talking over here.
@thesilverbrick "If someone told me I could be this excited for a tennis game, I wouldn’t have believed them. But I am super pumped for this coming out on Friday. It might have something to do with the fact that this is only the third new game from Nintendo on Switch this year"
It's amazing. I make this exact same argument as to why Switch owners are so amped up about the games that actually are coming out (I last did it about people being amped up about Runner 3 for instance) and yet I'm taken to the woodshed and called a troll. Here you are though, literally proving my point.
It's a real thing. Switch owners get hyped about releases literally because of the lack of other releases coming out.
This is the biggest misconception Nintendo has. See, Sony and Microsoft actually appeal more to kids, by simply making mature content kids want and parents don't police.
Do kids like Mario? Sure. Do kids like Call of Duty? Damn right they do.
Sony and Microsoft are just trading blows each generation at the top of the heap, whereas Nintendo does quirky things off to the side in hopes they can be a secondary console every now and then. The last two times Nintendo tried to be the one stop shop? Gamecube and Wii U.
@Realnoize this guy gets it. And this is exactly why Nintendo will never have sustained success ever again ala Sony with the Playstation brand. The PS is the most consistent, no frills, confident line of consoles ever made. Vita was simply before its time. Switch did it at the right time, is all.
I applaud them for the attempt. Very Nintendo of them.
But, when more time and energy is spent by people trying to explain to other people that "you just aren't the target audience" that should have been the first clue.
@BenAV "I've only been playing Fortnite since it came out on the Switch (probs like 20ish hours) so maybe I'm wrong by to me it actually feels way slower paced than Splatoon for the most part."
Thinking about this more, this is probably actually true as Switch Fortnite runs at 30 frames while spaltoon 2 runs at 60ish.
Wii U failed, out of the gate damn near save for the first 2 months of early adopters, for the following reasons. In order.
1) Confusing dual screen gaming with an unapproachable and generally displeasing controller.
2) The sheer fact you couldn't take the controller out of the room of the console.
3) The Wii branding leading to customer confusion and general disdain from the gaming population. By the time 2012 rolled around, people were by and large done with anything 'Wii'.
The failure of the Wii U falls entirely on Iwata's shoulders.
@BenAV to each their own, but no way gyro controls play better in a game as fast pace as fortnite. People dont realize how slow combat plays out in breath of the wild and splatoon comparatively.
Then again, with fortnite switch being capped at 30 frames instead of 60, it may be an equalizer. Cross play can't be very fair however.
This kind of news just doesn't do it for me anymore. I used to get so worked up about [3rd party game X] coming soon, potentially, at some point in time maybe after other consoles, but in all honestly if it's not a day 1 release what is the point? I will gladly just get it on a competing console these days instead.
@BenAV I wonder how many people clamoring for gyro controls are also joy con users? I'd imagine a Pro Controller would handle the R stick aiming just fine.

Classic Nintendo logic right here.
Re: Video: Here's How Wolfenstein II On Switch Compares To Last Year's Home Console Version
@Cosats See, I've played this game @ 60 fps. No way I'd play it at 30.
Re: Video: Here's How Wolfenstein II On Switch Compares To Last Year's Home Console Version
@Ralizah it really does crack me up, the irony. When it's a Nintendo game, 60 frames or GTFO. But now? Oh no, no big deal. LOL.
Re: Review: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Switch)
@gcunit "Quite clearly we don't want AAA games on Switch, hence we keep over-emphasising the downgrade. FML."
I'd argue what makes it quite clear that we don't want AAA games on Switch are the sales numbers. Gamers vote with their wallets.
Re: Video: Here's How Wolfenstein II On Switch Compares To Last Year's Home Console Version
Ok. One runs in 30fps and one in 60. That is a huge difference any way you slice it.

@Magician then buy another console.
Re: 2K Announces Carnival Games For Nintendo Switch, Partying Hard This November
@Paraka really? You "can't wait" for that? Sounds like a blast.
Re: Review: de Blob (Switch)
@PanurgeJr <3 glad I'm in your thoughts boo
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th June (North America)
Where's the Wolfenstein review?
I don't anticipate high sales, similar to DOOM unfortunately.
Re: Feature: 20 Years After The Release Of Banjo-Kazooie, We Speak To The Guys Who Made It

@Knuckles-Fajita now you're gettin' it!
Re: Epic Is Suing Former Employee For Leaking Major Fortnite Details Before Release
@Yhdekskymmenen I mean, Fortnite coming to a Nintendo console is about the biggest news for Nintendo since.... Breath of the Wild?

This feature will never be abused and only used for good at all times.
Re: Splatoon 2 Producer Discusses The Potential Impact Of Paid Nintendo Switch Online Service
@RainbowGazelle I'd argue that things actually became slightly worse (if you can believe it) once DeNA came aboard.

@Yorumi this guy gets it.

I mean who is honestly getting anything in that list other than Mario Tennis?

@electrolite77 you guys have a very warped definition of what a troll is.
It's like that guy in D.C. that calls all news he doesn't like to hear and see "fake".

LOL yeah and only Fortnite. Just sad. And very Nintendo.

Wait this is coming to Switch too?!?! Goodness the port situation is real.

@cfgk24 lol and then the looks on everyone's faces when they realize they have to put it all together
Re: Nintendo Says Labo Support Will Continue, Still Trying To Reach A Non-Gaming Audience
@Matthew010 This is what happens, sadly, when Nintendo gets drunk on success. The crazy "let's see if this sh!t sticks too!" risks start to come out.
If you recall, no risks were taken during Wii U. Many risks were taken with Wii.
Re: Fortnite Version 4.4 Is On The Way Bringing Limited Time Mode And A New Item

Re: Hackers Create A Way To Replace Models And Text In Switch Games
@Voldemort807 that's _gator_boi to you.
Re: A Mysterious Countdown Has Appeared In Fortnite On Switch
@Mamabearanother thing to consider is frame rate. Switch version runs at ~30 whereas all other consoles run at ~60.
Aside from this, try and crouch + remain still when firing as much as possible (obviously it's not always possible).
