Entertainment juggernauts Nintendo and Disney are joining forces to create a TV show based around the Switch and its games.
Dubbed "Nintendo Switch Family Showdown Contest", the show will make its debut this summer on the Disney Channel and Disney XD.
Each show will feature four families competing against each other on a wide range of Switch games, including Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Tennis Aces and Just Dance 2018.
It all sounds rather fun, and is, of course, a savvy piece of marketing by Nintendo itself; non-Switch owners might end up tuning in and then badgering their parents for a console.

Wait!
Nintendo, Disney, TV show, Contest TV Show, Real Prizes?, Really?
I did not see that coming!
I wonder what Universal think about this with their Nintendo Theme Park agreement
Now they should release Disney Afternoon Collection on the Switch – the opportunity is too good to pass up!
It sounds like a televisual nightmare. Fingers crossed I never accidentally tune in.
Ok. Now I don’t just want Capcom to release the nes Disney games on the switch... now I want that collection to include duck tales remastered and a rescue rangers remastered as well.
I have heard of worse ideas. But this sounds like the kind of nonsense that would have happened in the 90s. Kinda surprised to see it today. I would be shocked if it doesn't bomb majorly.
Oh dear. The combination of 'Switch Advert People' with 'Disney Channel Actors' will be incredibly cringe that I doubt I could handle it.
Can they not team up with Disney to make a new Epic Mickey? Magical World 3? Disneyland Adventures port? Ducktales Remastered port etc etc the list goes on and on and on.
Kingdom Hearts on Switch !!!!??
Oh no. I watched a lot of Disney Channel when I was younger for some reason, and looking back on it now, I have no idea why I liked the typical American sitcoms that they showed. I hope this decision at least will be good for marketing.
What I want - Kingdom Hearts, what I get - Sing It.
Well, this will be a good marketing I think...
Sounds like Antimatter's dream show lol
(Mushroom/Nintendo) Kingdom hearts on switch that would be so awesome.
Nintendo and Disney combined? Come on guys, bring Kingdom Hearts Compilation to Switch!
@Ichiban
"Sounds like Antimatter's dream show lol"
Well, let see what is Disney bring on that show.
@the_beaver
"Nintendo and Disney combined? Come on guys, bring Kingdom Hearts Compilation to Switch!"
How about :
1. Kingdom Hearts 3 Switch by SquareEnix
2. Disney Magical World 3 by Bandai Namco
3. Disney Afternoon Collections by Capcom
This is a concept I would’ve devoured if I was a kid today. Heck, I’ll watch an episode.
LOL. So much negativity over this. And clearly, Nintendo can't win with some. They don't market something enough, they're incompetent. They actually do and its the end of the world.
I think this will be fun. Like someone said above, its good marketing. But its also fun to watch family competition shows like this. Takes me back to the 80's/90's era of those kinds of shows.
Will they be playing Bayonetta?
Marketing wise it makes sense ,but a show about watching families play video games seems a little boring
Yikes, "watching strangers play video games" now makes it on to broadcast TV, and courtesy of Nintendo of all companies.
I should of course wait and see what this is, and how it's edited and presented, before I pass any kind of judgment, but the premise sounds a bit thin.
I mean, it'll probably suck, but it's a good marketing strat, for sure. Plus I'm pretty sure the guys in the image star in shows from Disney Channel so kids are more likely to tune in.
@admwllms That's what I'm hoping for! Those games started life on Nintendo, they need to come home to Nintendo!!
I'm sure this is going to have massive levels of cringe, lol.
If I am hearing "Nintendo" and "Disney" in the same sentence Kingdom Hearts better be involved or I'll be disappointed.
Why can't they just bring back "Tron: Uprising" instead?
Ew.
Regardless of what people feel on the matter, Disney Channel is still very popular. Any way you stretch it, a few Switches are bound to be sold from this marketing ploy.
There's only one show from what it seems, and you can enter a contest to get in it by making a video showing "why you're the ultimate Nintendo fan"
I thought it was gonna be some sort of sit-com. I was grinding my teeth already. This set up isn't too bad though. It amounts to some pretty good advertising.
@NinjaWaddleDee How about Gal Gun 2?
Oh
It would make sense to get a great personality from the gaming community as host. That could make all the difference.
@Ichiban : Needs more shirtless chibi boys.
There was an Australian show (quite entertaining) called A-Maze-Ing, where, if I recall correctly, there would be a round where contestants would play against each other in an SNES (and/or possibly N64) game.
Many of the prizes were sponsored by Nintendo as well. Incidentally, a particularly cruel April Fools joke by Australian Nintendo site Vooks involved a "comeback" of A-Maze-Ing.
@Anti-Matter Kingdom Hearts 3 won’t ever happen on Switch. The system can pull off some beautiful graphics but KH3 would have to be scaled down too much.
