Re: Poll: Surprise! A New Zelda Is In Development, But What Do You Want From It?

gatorboi352

@wiggleronacid absolutely respectfully could not disagree more. Going back to play Twilight Princess HD after BotW was like... I dunno, horse and carriage after driving a car?

The next Zelda most definitely needs to follow in line with the BotW approach. There's so much to expand on, or tweak, or alter, or flesh out. The ability to climb anything anywhere coupled with paragliding singlehandedly made that game the best thing to come out in a decade.

Re: We Can't Ignore The Switch, Says Sony's Head Of Corporate Planning

gatorboi352

If history is anything to go by, all Sony needs to do is literally wait for Nintendo's successor to the Switch, possibly called Switch U, to go back to continuing to ignore Nintendo.

Nintendo will mess this up, they always mishandle success. Nintendo's best ideas come when their back is against the wall and they're in full on survival mode (Wii after GCN, Switch after Wii U).

Re: Nintendo Switch Ends 2017 On A High With 2.5 Million Units Sold In Japan Alone

gatorboi352

Glad Nintendo's brand is relevant again, even if it's in a capacity that doesn't necessarily resonate with me. Have been in (temporary) possession of a Switch the last month or so and it's pretty cool I guess. Odyssey is nice, even if it's made me want to revisit 3D World and Galaxy 2 instead. Still have no desire to go out and buy one for myself though.

"Speaking of PS4, Sony's console has hit the 5.5 million unit marker in Japan. The system has been available since February 2014, while the Switch doesn't even have a full year under its belt yet. At this rate, Switch's Japanese install base could overtake PS4's in 2018."

I find this kind of stuff just silly. You can't compare Switch to PS4/XB1 when things are in favor for Switch, yet turn around and say "well, Switch is just a portable" when things are not in favor of Switch. It's either a direct competitor to those consoles or it's not.

Re: WWE 2K18 Finally Arrives on Switch 'Starting December 6th'

@Devlind clearly the dev part of your name does not indicate developer.

Nintendo develops software for their own Hardware. This intimate knowledge between the two affords them the ability to have such compression techniques.

On the other hand, third-party developers are making a single game that can work across multiple Hardware.

Why is this so difficult for people to comprehend?

Re: Review: Resident Evil Revelations Collection (Switch)

@gortsi " People busy with family, studies or work don't have time to slouch on the couch every evening to play videogames"

Yet being able to take these games on the go and ignore those same obligations is any different? How does the fact that Switch is portable change any of those things? Not buying this argument.

Re: Review: Mario Party: The Top 100 (3DS)

gatorboi352

The problem with Mario Party, and the like, is that they are a product of a different time in gaming. People no longer gather around one TV to play this stuff. Do gatherings still happen? Sure, but they are forced, themed gatherings for this sole intention whereas in the past people just organically gathered to play and hang out.

It's called the internet, people. Now that we all have it, we do things differently because of it. Like gathering around a single TV to play party games.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Analysis of Skyrim on Nintendo Switch

gatorboi352

@rjejr "We'll it's kind of both"

That is a third way of viewing it, yes. But not everyone does. I know far more people that exclusively play Switch as a portable, never docking it, than folks who play it hybrid or docked exclusively.

You just never know. I do know that Switch isn't for me, as I've become increasingly enticed by cutting edge specs and big screen 4K TVs for my down time with video games. But that's just me.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Analysis of Skyrim on Nintendo Switch

gatorboi352

@rjejr DOOM, FIFA and NBA2K, the only relevant current gen AAA releases on Switch, all come with them substantial compromises. If you're of the mindset that Switch is a 3DS replacement and a portable console, your line of thinking is going to be way different than one believing Switch is a Wii U successor and a Home console.

For me, I couldn't care less about portable consoles. Bought a 2DS XL in July and have picked it up less than 20 times.

My XB1 gets about 4 hours of play a day. BTW, DOOM looks light-years better on it and it's the 3rd worst version to boot.

Re: Digital Foundry Gives Its Full Analysis of DOOM on Nintendo Switch

gatorboi352

It's going to be an ugly day (spoiler alert: next spring) when Switch sales fall off a cliff. Once anyone who wants one (around 30 million lifetime) gets a switch, Nintendo will be left scrambling once again.

Why do I say this here, in this article? Well, because as we all know, Nintendo cannot survive off of 1st party content alone. And if this is the level of quality that AAA 3rd party content brings to the NS, just imagine next year and the year after that.

Wii was uber successful due to price and Wii Sports being packed in.

Switch has been successful because of Breath of the Wild being a launch title and a strategic release schedule of Wii U ports mixed with indie offerings.

Gotta see the forest for the trees though. And a forest fire appears on the horizon.

Re: Review: DOOM (Switch)

gatorboi352

@JimmySpades Comparing NDF to SJW is absurd. I'll leave it at that.

NDF is a real thing around here btw, and a number of the more level headed commenters of this site are quite tired of them.

Re: Soapbox: DOOM is the Most Important Switch Game Yet

gatorboi352

@JaxonH I've always said Switch needed relevant 3rd party support. Meaning day 1 3rd party support. Parity.

This is nothing better than the support Wii U had.

Make no mistake, Switch wouldn't be nearly as successful as it is today without breath of the Wild on day one. Sure, it would still be more appealing than wii u ever was, but nowhere close to the success that it is.

Re: Review: DOOM (Switch)

gatorboi352

@gcunit to me, owning the Xbox version and a buttery smooth 60 frames, this is an absolute deal breaker IMO. This isn't Zelda, it's twitch shooter DOOM.
