Re: Soapbox: Sorry Nintendo, Joy-Con Drift Means I Won't Buy Switch Lite At Launch

gangsterswedish

While I see a definite market for the Lite, I've had enough issues with either breaking Joy-Cons, having issues with them, or just overall feeling that the Switch is 5x more fragile than say a 3DS where I'm passing on it for now. I'd love to have a proper Only-On-The-Go Switch as I'm scared to death of traveling with mine very much, but the Lite isn't it. If Nintendo can bring out a Switch Lite+ sometime down the road, I might change my mind. I would love a 2DS-XL-like Switch with a built-in cover. It's never even occurred to me that my 2DS XL or 3DS XL might eventually have faulty controllers. All these years later my original launch DS still works flawlessly. The Joy-Cons just aren't built to last.

Re: Review: Q-YO Blaster - It's Not Quite Parodius, But It's The Next Best Thing

gangsterswedish

This is a strange one. I bought it before reading this review but didn’t play it until after. It’s good, but whereas some titles feature what I think of as “premium” pixel-art, this game has a sort of Kemco-like cheapness to it that I can’t quite put a finger on. Still, it’s mostly fun to play but I’d give it a 6/10 on its best day; there are far too many better shooters on the eShop.

Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd July (North America)

I’m in for both SolSeraph and Stranger Things 3, even though I didn’t play prior Stranger Things games. The Wii U release is sort of sad for me though, I just packed up my Wii U and 75 games yesterday as I couldn’t stand to see how much dust it had been collecting. End of an era. I really, really loved that system.

Re: Review: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - A Fine Castlevania Tribute That's A Technical Trainwreck On Switch

gangsterswedish

Weird. Maybe it's my old man reflexes or just the fact that I've not been more than 20% or so through the Switch version but I'm not seeing all of the issues other people are when I compared to PS4, which I completed the day after it came out. Granted, I've been playing undocked and have yet to put it on the big screen but hiccups to date, of which I've counted only two, have been so brief that I don't think I'd have noticed them had I not been looking for them.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2 Currently Lets You Upload Just 32 Courses

gangsterswedish

The game has been out for less than 24 hours and people have already hit the 32 level upload cap? I think that pretty much summarizes WHY there needs to be a 32 level upload cap to begin with, doesn't it? Why not offer local storage of unlimited levels, with 32 or so "live" levels? The point here is clearly to boost the quality, reduce spam, make the game a better place to play. No complaints here at all. I've already played a dozen or so fantastic levels and 3 awful ones - like TRULY awful. Balance is ok but I'm all for whatever measures Nintendo wants to take to make it even better.

Re: Talking Point: Not Appealing To Gamers First Is A Dangerous Strategy For The Sonic Movie

gangsterswedish

I'm not sure why every "gamer" feels the need to be catered to these days but last I checked, we're everywhere. Everyone is a gamer. I'm not special, you're not special, old school Sonic fans (of which I am one) are not special. Movies are a business and they're meant to make money. If we're only making a Sonic movie for the people that enjoyed the original 2 or 3 games and are in the market to go see a film based on a nearly 30 year old video game character, they won't make a dime - and hey, maybe they won't. Thing is though, if they make a film using that character as inspiration, and they make it for modern family viewers, it actually might work. Me and my kid will be there for the first showing, not because I expect it to be great, but because anyway you look at it, it's going to take me back to the early 90s - as will Jim Carey. The last thing on my mind is whether or not its going to be loved by a bunch of "fans" on the internet. Who cares? I'm a fan. I'm on the internet. I just want to be entertained for two hours, with zero expectation that Paramount has to live up to my nostalgia.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Analysis Of Cuphead On The Nintendo Switch

gangsterswedish

Thank you for eliminating the need to watch yet another pointless Digital Foundry video. Don't get me wrong, I like those guys and even support them via Patreon, but they could reduce their output by half and I'd be fine. I don't need another 8x magnified analysis of an effing digital mud puddle, let alone a close examination of the pixelation in Mugman's left leg.

Is it pretty much the same? Yes? Ok great. Moving on...

I own in on XB1X and PC anyway and probably won't buy the Switch version, but I can't help but smile knowing that Nintendo fans get to enjoying breaking their controllers over such an amazing game.

Re: Switch Overtakes Nintendo 64 Lifetime Sales, According To New Estimates

gangsterswedish

Not at all shocked that Switch has surpassed both the N64 and GameCube. While I had a certain amount of love for both, or at least a handful of games on both, neither one were exactly Nintendo's finest. The Switch is a completely different story. While I'd love to see Nintendo double their first-party output on the Switch, at least it's been getting an even mix of the "best of Wii U" and some great new titles. All the poor N64 ever got was Mario 64, GoldenEye, and a marginal F-Zero game. Oh right, and that amazing Superman cart. I actually bought that. So stupid.

Re: Review: SEGA AGES Alex Kidd In Miracle World - A Cult Platforming Classic, Tastefully Reimagined

gangsterswedish

Alex Kidd never got the love he (sometimes) deserved back in the day. If Mario wasn't trouncing all over him on the Nintendo side, the abysmally-named, yet mostly amazing Wonder Boy series was stealing his thunder on the Sega side. This was an immediate purchase for me. Sega did a lot of things wrong in the Master System years but Alex Kidd was definitely not one of them.

Re: Yooka-Laylee's Demastered Nintendo 64 Mode Is Out Now On Switch

gangsterswedish

I've tried so very hard to like this game, let alone love it, and it just isn't happening. At first I thought maybe it was because it never felt quite right on Xbox One. Got the Switch version - physical no less - still didn't win me over. Somehow I doubt the addition of some scanlines is going to be the thing that does the trick. Oh well, live and learn.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Is Now The Second Best-Selling Racing Game Of All Time In The US

gangsterswedish

MK8 will likely never top MK Wii sales but given how inept I am at using a Wii Remote to drive a kart, I've more or less forgotten (or tried really hard to forget) that game exists. But given how amazing MK8 is, I still scratch my head whenever another Hello Kitty Kart Racers or All Star Fruit Racing is released. What's the point? If it's a cash-in, cool, but at least release that trash at $20 instead of $40.

Re: Japanese Charts: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Knocked Off Top Spot In Its Second Week

gangsterswedish

Guys, guys, don't feed the trolls, especially the ones that can't spell properly. As a hardcore Xbox One fanboy myself, I'm ridiculously used to the Sony hate. Let them claim all the "Nintendo only caters to 5 year old" garbage all they want, then turn right around and play a few rounds of Spider-Man. They're hypocrites with nothing better to do than try to win an argument they alone are having. In the meantime, Switch pwns Japan, SMBDU finally finds the audience it deserves, Splatoon 2 continues to be one of the best games on the planet (despite shaky Nintendo online), and all is right in the world.
