Re: Port Specialist Engine Software Thinks Switch Will Continue "To Do Well" Despite Arrival Of Next-Gen

gangsterswedish

My PS4 Pro sits in a box in the closet because I didn't even crack 90 hours on it in 2019, despite having given Sony money for about 6-7 "AAA" titles. Meanwhile I'm playing the heck out of several indies, Pokemon Shield, and just about done with Star Ocean 1 on my Switch. I'd argue that gaming has changed, the "hardcore gamers" (including myself until recently) just haven't changed much with it. There's a reason Fortnite, Minecraft, etc. are massive moneymakers and companies like EA and Activision are relentlessly pursuing that business model. Hardware is kind of boring these days. MOAR PIXELS! 5 extra FPS! Yawn.

Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

gangsterswedish

I'd trade nearly everything listed above for analog triggers - how can we ever expect proper GameCube emulation otherwise?

Docked 4K would be ok I suppose but a higher-powered GPU/CPU would take care of most of the minor visual complaints I have with the current Switch (while docked that is, most things look great while portable).

Aside from that? Wireless audio. My phone from 2009 has it, why doesn't the Switch?

Re: Poll: What Other Wii U Games Do You Want To See On Switch?

gangsterswedish

I can only pick one? Screw that. I pretty much want everything on the list except the 3rd party stuff I can get elsewhere. Nintendo is 100% leaving money on the table by not re-releasing all of their stuff - hell, Starfox might actually be good if it doesn't require awful Wii U gamepad controls.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Thinks The Switch Home Menu Is A "Piece Of Crap"

gangsterswedish

My 7-year old daughter and I broke out our respective 3DS units the other day for the first time in months. She immediately remarked at how awesome it was that the 3DS home menu and eshop both had a ton of personality (her exact words were "this is so cute") and how the Switch was "boring; yuck."

Add the fact that it becomes ridiculously challenging to find games in a 512GB micro sd and the Switch UI takes barebones to the extreme. Absolutely awful.

Re: Talking Point: Witcher 3 Gave Switch Fans Fresh Hope For Multiplatform Releases In 2019

gangsterswedish

Most of this generation has been easy to ignore. Between Sony's beautiful but bland third person action adventure of the week and Xbox's inability to get past Forza, Halo, and Gears, its left Nintendo as the only real platform with an eye on fun. Witcher 3 one of few exceptions, the stuff I've taken to the most from third parties has been from indies. Pixel counting is a bore and processing power is overrated.

Re: Nintendo Download: 14th November (North America)

gangsterswedish

Weird. I thought Cube Creator X had already been released in the west ages ago. Bought that one 2+ years ago during a trip to Tokyo. Played it a few times but the performance issues were so bad that I eventually gave up.

Oh, and obviously I'm buying Pokémon Sword and Shield. Twice (big family).

Re: Video: Overwatch On Switch "Works" But It's Far From Perfect, According To Digital Foundry

gangsterswedish

Eh. Its Overwatch. I have it on a tricked out PC and I have it on Xbox One X. Now for the first time ever, I can play it outside, on the train, and in bed. I'm over the Digital Foundry "omg! there's 16 fewer pixels and ambient occlusion!" nonsense. And I say that as a DF Patreon subscriber.

Meanwhile there are a ton of us leveling up in Switch Overwatch right now. Join us. Or dont. But dont let (gasp!) a handful of texture maps stop you. Big deal.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Patch Revises Sensitive Dialogue

That all of this controversy around translated copy and a voice actor have amounted to about 1/3rd the total press this game has received is sickening. Goes to show that regardless of our opinions on any given matter, far too many of us will waste our time and energy "weighing in" on something we have nothing to do with either way.

Is it a good game? yes. Is it fun? yes. Was your day absolutely ruined because you saw a voice actor did something controversial and was removed from the game or because a line of text was altered for one reason or another? If so, get a life.

Re: Review: F-Zero - The Game That Sold Us Mode 7

gangsterswedish

It's a testament to the absolutely groundbreaking quality of the original F-Zero that I not only played it to death at launch on SNES, it's the first game from the SNES -> Switch games I fired up - and to date, only 1 of 3 that I've played at all. A lot has been said about F-Zero GX and even F-Zero 64. Sure, they're both utterly fantastic and I'd even give the overall nod to GX, but the original SNES classic is easily a 9/10, possibly a 10/10. When we're rating the quality of games relative to one another, we don't have to reserve a perfect rating of "10" only for a single game in a given series - it's possible, however unlikely, that more than one games deserves a perfect rating. For me, F-Zero is one of the few. It feels as amazing to play today as it did all those years ago, and in looking back, it was the title that clearly defined (for me at least) what the SNES did that the Genesis/MegaDrive did not - and I say this as a huge Sega fanboy back in the day.

If we can also have some Uniracers on Switch, I'll be happy for some months to come.

Re: Soapbox: To Me, Mario Maker 2 Is Nintendo's Best, And Most Disappointing, Sequel Ever

gangsterswedish

I bought SMM2 in the hopes that it would remedy the "issue" of too many novelty levels that makers made for SMM1. Silly me. I'm a middle-aged dad who doesn't have the time to MAKE anything, but I choose to believe that the gaming community is full of creative people - and it is, except they're creating some amazing, yet ultimately unsatisfying, auto levels or impossible levels - seems like in almost equal measure. My disappointment with the game doesn't come from the game or its tools, it comes from the fact that almost no one is trying to be the next Miyamoto-caliber level designer.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo DS Games

gangsterswedish

This is a great list in my opinion - lots of great memories here, both old and fairly recent. I still adore my DS and play it fairly often, even with every other, newer game system in the house. Also, I think it's worth mentioning that my local GameStop stores still have a LOT of used DS games at pretty premium prices. The stock seems to rotate quite a bit too – far more than their PS3, Xbox 360, etc. titles do. It speaks volumes that a system as old as the DS has so many in-demand titles on it and they're still selling (again and again and again). Truly an amazing system.

Re: Hardware Review: 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ - The Best Third-Party Switch Controller Just Got Better

gangsterswedish

I agree with @YANDMAN above. I love my SN30 Pro - it's my controller of choice behind the stock Xbox One controller - but I'm not a fan of the dualshock-like design at all. Something about the dualshock 'feel' gives me wicked hand cramps. I'd rather have no palm support than the small-ish support dualshocks have. That said, I could use another SN30 Pro for couch co-op so they'll get more of my money anyway.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch Online’s Appeal Is Growing, But There's A Long Way To Go

gangsterswedish

Switch Online needs some sort of tier-based service that caters to both the people that only want to use it to play friends online (and give them audio chat finally) and a tier for those of us that want something comparable to what Sony and Microsoft already offer. Yes, its silly to think that your $15 a year is going to buy you Game Pass, but Nintendo is either naïve or stupid to be leaving so much money on the table with their Switch-less SNES/GCN/etc catalog. I'd happily pay $15/month for a "Nintendo All Access" pass; they don't even have to give me newer games - just everything pre-2012 or so.
