The Yo-Kai Watch games might have only been around for six years, but there are already more than a handful of entries in the series. Most recently, Yo-Kai Watch 4 was released in Japan on the Switch and ended up taking out the top spot in the local video game charts. This also happens to be the first time an entry has been released on a system other than the 3DS.
With this in consideration, there's likely to be many newcomers enjoying the world of Yo-Kai for the very first time, with no knowledge of the existing releases. Fortunately, Level-5 has plans to make the original Yo-Kai Watch game available on the Switch. This was confirmed during the latest episode of Level-5's virtual YouTube series. The game is expected to arrive on 20th September alongside Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and the Nintendo Switch Lite.
Other than this, there's no information about what the re-release of the original game will be like. This first title debuted on the 3DS in 2013 and introduced players to a world filled with Yo-Kai and as well as some unique battle mechanics. In our review, we gave the game seven out of ten stars.

Im ok with this.
Nice! I hope it runs at 60fps! It would totally be worth a purchase if they increase the frame rate like that. I like the Yokai Watch games, but mostly want to play one that runs perfectly smoothly.
Does it mean that we will only get YW4 after they released the original 3ds trilogy on the Switch? That means another year or two?
Wow, interesting development. I've always been curious about this series.
Not interested unless they change the combat system.
If Yokai Watch 3 Remaster also comes to Nintendo Switch.... πππ
Because seriously, Yokai Watch 3 English version in physical is already "extinct" from Ebay. π©
Itβs not the most ideal day to sandwich the release between Ni No Kuni and Linkβs Awakening. Would have been better to target mid-August. Still cool. Hopefully the price is right.
Iβd buy it! Love this franchise
Iβm so excited!!!!!! I was just about to buy this on 3ds but now Iβll wait!
Might as well appeal to the Yokai version of Gen One-ers. XD
They're doing it right when the Switch Lite drops. Lots of Japanese kids are going to want it. Good move.
@Anti-Matter vgp.ca has it in stock still hard to find though
Not a bad idea. A lot of people who hadn't had a Nintendo product for a long time or others who the Switch is their first, wouldn't know the series.
On 20th September, everyone will be buying Zelda.
Seems like a good time to nab some of those PokΓ©mon fans who are absolutely no way gonna buy the next PokΓ©mon game. You know, like they werenβt gonna buy the last one or the one before that or the one before that...
It's the only game in the series that I've actually played. I liked it quite a lot (much more fun than any recent Pokemon entries) but don't really need to buy it a second time. More interested in the other entries that I haven't played.
Looks like Yo-Kai Watch is big on Generation I imperialism as well.
I played this on the 3DS and quite enjoyed it. The plot and side quests were decent for the most part. The combat mechanics were...different, but they did shine a little during boss battles.
I hope that they eventually port the whole series over if this does well. I'd like another shot at grabbing Yo-kai Watch 3.
I enjoyed the quirky battle mechanics, but I never finished the game. Iβm happy to double dip.
Ok, you know what, this is really cool, especially if they release this in the west. They could release the original, get new people into it, then release yo kai 4, then boom, they just made a whole new fanbase
I'm gonna stick with my 3DS versions of the trilogy - these games were designed for dual screen.
I hope it does well on Switch though - the couple of hours I've played tell me it's a nicely polished experience. But I kinda don't want them to port YW3 'cos it will hurt the value of my 3DS version
@NotTelevision yeah weird choice, everyone will prefer to buy Zelda that day
I guess they think that because the switch mini will probably sale tons of hardware (maybe even few millions world wide) in Itβs first couple of weeks, and a lot of it in Japan, they think they will want to try the game as a cheaper 2nd game
I honestly cannot imagine bringing YW1 to the Switch, it's such a 3DS game all-around, actually using all of the system's features, the bottom screen alone probably to a greater extent than, let's say, all Pokemon games combined.
Maybe it's just a mistake.
more fun than pokemon. My 2c
@Xelha I really wish there was more people like you, by that I mean not liking something something because of simple things, like not liking a battle system, since most people just hate yo kai because it's like pokemon
Love the series, but I struggle to imagine how the 3DS entries would work on Switch.
I think if they can push the next 3 games out in a reasonable time then these will do well. Iβve never played them but my son did and seemed to enjoy it. I think we all wish Nintendo would do this with Luigis Manson 1 and 2 for Switch?
So can I get fantasy life on Switch then?
However this is a good move for Japan.
I'll probably be sitting this one out. I just finished the first Yokai Watch on 3DS. As in the credits are rolling as I type this. It was a fun game and now I am on to 2 and hopefully 3.
YES!
a perfect game for a perfect console
@Ryu_Niiyama I have a feeling that it will be coming soon! Level-5 has published five notable games/series on 3DS (the Layton games, Inazuma Eleven, Yo-Kai Watch, Fantasy Life, and Snack World); now, Snack World is already out on Switch in Japan, they have announced ports of Laytonβs Mystery Journey and the first Yo-Kai Watch, and thereβs new Inazuma Eleven games coming (plus the Ni No Kuni port coming out in September). Fantasy Life is LITERALLY the only major 3DS game in their library that they havenβt ported over or made a Switch sequel for. I really hope they do re-release it on Switch, it was my favourite game on 3DS and one of my top-5 overall!
@nintendolie
Not me
It was very stylus-dependent, so Iβm curious as to how theyβll revamp it.
What a great idea. I like it when companies chuck out ports of earlier games alongside newer ones, even if theyβre not simultaneous. Bit like the two Bayonettas being rereleased on Switch alongside the Bayonetta 3 announcement.
PokΓ©mon, Yo-kai Watch and Digimon. Some folk have much collecting to do in the near future.
yeah i might get it i missed it on 3ds
But why? The second game was kind of a remake, and was 99x better than the first game, too... :/
Something tells me this is a mistake. That they meant to say βBoth NiNo Kuni and Yo-Kai Watch 4 will be on the system when LiteSwitch launches (in Japan)β
This seems too strange otherwise.
Did anyone ask Level-5 for comment? Or are we just gonna run with it regardless
my son played the HELL out of this. i may pick it up and give it a shot on switch
Why though? The second game was just a better version of the first!
...and oh boy, the graphics were bad on the 3ds. I cant imagine what itll be like blown up on the tv...
@Farts_Ahoy
Which is why itβll probably look more like this:
https://youtu.be/WPOP5tJ8riQ
I'll double-dip this day one because Yo-Kai obsessed. My favorite weird Japan franchise, hands down.
I'm hoping this opens up the possibility for porting the other sequels. Knowing Level-5, they're bound to make some great improvements with this port.
Since I'm not buying pokemon I may buy this one.
Is there anything that DOESN'T come out on that day?
If it's physical and the controls aren't bad I might double dip. My team in the original was such a bad mess some postgame stuff was almost unplayable. I had no idea what I was doing at all.
Ξ would love to see more 3ds games on Switch. Imagine Pokemon remasters of X/Y/US/UM on Switch running crispy without blur and on 1080/720p instead of 240p. Thats a huge difference
@Farts_Ahoy What?? The graphics of the Yo-kai Watch games blow all the 3DS Pokemon games out of the water!
If I was impressed with one thing, then it was the graphic quality if the Pokemon games with impressive performance.
So, this was a Wii U game then, right? It can't be a 3DS game, because it didn't fail, so no porting its games to Switch, right?
@dimi that's a 3DS game, not a Wii U game, and Switch doesn't get 3DS ports, only Wii U ports, because the 3DS wasn't a commercial failure needing to port its games to Switch- why people say Wii U games were ported.
@gamefreak77 ikr? but some 3ds games would benefit a big deal with 720p treatment like Kid Icarus uprising etc
My son loves these games and is really excited about them coming to the Nintendo switch and cannot wait it's his favorite game in the world
