I subscribe to Retro Gamer and Nintendo Force and that feeling i get, even at 29 years old, is the same i had as a kid. Whilst i appreciate that we now live in a highly digital age, there's something that that can't give you. It's the satisfaction of flicking through something physical, the excitement you get when your new issue arrives, the production values (as was pointed out) and that new magazine smell like you used to get with a manual from a game.
One thing i will say to anyone buying these, it says they won't take the money until dispatch, but they take it straight away. It's completely screwed me up for the rest of the month, but more fool me for buying such expensive peripherals. Thought i should warn people wanting to get them
Does this include a European release or is it just America? I ask because i can't find it on the UK eshop or website, whereas it is on the American eshop and website.
Got this on release day last week (UK release) and i wasn't disappointed. A real swan song for the system and a fantastic greatest hits collection. My only criticism is that it wasn't a Switch game.
@BenAV I can definitely see the similarities between this and some of the WayForward games. Especially games like Mighty Switch Force. And yeah, Celeste was so, so good. Is definitely one of my favourites of recent memory ππ
WarioWare Gold for me. Beat the story yesterday. Going through the challenges now. It really shocks me that only one other person has said WarioWare. Criminally underrated series. I highly recommend it.
Will try and jump back on the Crash trilogy on Switch at some point too.
Just played through it. It's 2 old stages and the first boss battle with King Puff. Was hoping for one of the Odyssey levels to be honest π Whilst it is short, you can play it 2 player and i wil say that in handheld mode, this game is a perfect fit for it.
@Trickbaby14 To be fair, you're right. Nintendo have the demand off the fans far more than anyone else. Nintendo fans, myself included, need to learn how to go longer than 10 minutes without some sort of new announcement. In the lead up to Christmas, there is Super Mario Party in October, Pokemon in November and Smash in December. That's pretty solid, plus we will no doubt get stuff announced before then too. I think the problem is, the pressure is on after such a solid first year. That and they should have prepared fans before the Direct that Smash was going to be the majority of the show.
Well, i have a 4 day old baby, but still trying to fit those games when he's napping! ππ Im playing Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Mario Tennis Aces and Ikaruga!
Im currently playing The Adventure Pals. I've been itching for a good 2D platformer since beating Celeste and this definitely doesn't disappoint. Imagine Adventure Time crossed a 2D Banjo Kazooie and you've got a winner. Highly recommend it.
Im so close to the end of Celeste that it would be a crime not to see how it ends this weekend. Once that is done, i neeto carry on with Night in the Woods. That started out so good. Then if i have time, ill carry on with Shadow of the Colossus on PS4.
Whilst i have the originals on PS1 and N. Sane Trilogy on PS4, if the price is right, im willing to triple dip. I got it on release day for 28 quid, so they can't charge much more than that. Though the Switch tax will probably bring it up to 50 quid and the Nintendo UK store will try to justify it with either a tshirt that doesn't fit or a poster that i don't have room for as a preorder bonus ππ
I think for what 64 did for 3D games and the industry, then that takes the prize. It was something the industry had never seen before and revolutionized gaming as we know it. If we're talking about pure quality of the game, then Odyssey hands down wins.
Somethings gotta give. I get that Nintendo purely wanted the Switch to be about its games and that was fine.........a year ago. The Switch now boasts a respectable library of quality titles. At this point, i really don't see the harm in bringing apps to the system. It needs to happen. Hell, even Japan has NicoNico and the US has Hulu.
So..........no Viewtiful Joe, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Wario Ware, Starfox, Donkey Konga, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Skies of Arcadia, Chibi Robo, Wave Race plus many others, but Tony Hawks 4 and Simpsons Hit and Run made it to the list??? Criminal!!!
I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion and if we all liked the same stuff, it wouldn't be very interesting. Mostly, in my opinion, a great list!
I know Edge can be quite critical with the littlest of things when it comes to their reviews on things, so for Nintendo to be awarded with so much says a lot about how Nintendo have really come along as a company in the year. Great stuff!
I showed my girlfriend the trailer for this after being amazed myself and ended up downloading it as she wants to play it with me. I was shocked when she said that because she doesn't play games. Hardly ever. The only games i've seen her play are Journey on PS4, Super Mario 64 and Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 and 1, 2, Switch on the Switch. I have a really good feeling towards this if it has made my non-gamer girlfriend want to play
I boil this down to three points. One is that it is close to Christmas. People can't justify spending 40-50 pound on themselves at this time of year. Second, these third party games are available on more powerful hardware for a much cheaper price as they've been out much longer. Third and possibly the most important, this doesn't take the e-shop sales into consideration. Doom and Skyrim are up in the top 5 on there. Most people i know who have a switch download over buying physical because they say it's a pain carrying cartridges around. Don't forget, Ultra Street Fighter 2 made it into the top 10 for a week, only for it to completely drop out the following week. Capcom still said that it was a success. Maybe we are underestimating download numbers?
Doom and Rocket League on switch for me. Maybe find some more moons on Mario Odyssey if i get chance. Then it's a double dose of WWE pay per views this weekend, so it'll be WWE 2K18 on the PS4 with a couple of mates before the actual wrestling starts!
The problem is, if this is true, i have these games (1-4) on the original DS and then from the e-shop on 3DS. I won't object (see what i did there) to triple dipping, but if they pull another Street Fighter 2 on us and charge 35 quid, then it might have to be a no. It needs to be budget price.
New game in the series though? Already a day one purchase for me! ππ
I preordered it for 2 reasons. The first was after that ending in Mania after obtaining all the chaos emeralds, i wanna see if that connects with Forces and the second was that Argos have it for 27 pounds which i thought was relatively cheap for a new release, so if it sucks, its not the end of the world. If it is terrible, then ill trade it in (which i very rarely do) and the use the credit on Doom. I'm not holding my breath, but i'll remain optimistic at this point.
I downloaded this as i wanted something to play before Mario came out and money was a bit tight, so i took the risk. Ive put nearly 10 hours into it. A game that is cheaper than a sandwich. It has that 'one more go' factor to it that i love. Β£2.69 well spent!
Although they won't be talking about Switch or 3DS, just a confirmation that it will somehow integrate with the next 'true' game in the series will be enough for me. Even if they confirm it, yet will speak about it at a later date will be fine. I feel the next iteration is not too far away and i don't wanna sink too much time into it, if i just have to rebuild everything again in the next game, providing it does actually play like a proper Animal Crossing game.
