Hot on the heels of SNK announcing the Neo Geo Mini really is a thing, the miniature console that set that original bandwagon rolling is getting a re-release. Yes, the NES Classic Edition - or Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer as its known in the East - is getting a special re-release in Japan on 7th July, and it sounds like quite the model.
Not only will the tiny console be golden (yes, golden), but it'll include a new list of games to sweeten that all-important deal. Designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of weekly manga anthology Weekly Shōnen Jump, the new console will include the following games:
- Tag Team Match: MUSCLE
- Dragon Quest
- Fist of the North Star
- Dragon Ball: Shenron no Nazo
- Kinnikuman: Kinnikusei Oui Soudatsusen
- Saint Seiya: Ougon Densetsu
- Captain Tsubasa
- Saint Seiya: Ougon Densetsu Kanketsu-hen
- Sekiryuuou
- Famicom Jump: Hero Retsuden
- Sakigake!! Otokojuku Shippuu Ichi Gou Sei
- Ankoku Shinwa: Yamato Takeru Densetsu
- Tenchi wo Kurau (Destiny of an Emperor)
- Hokuto no Ken 3: Shin Seiki Souzou Seiken Retsuden
- Dragon Ball 3: Gokuden
- Captain Tsubasa 2
- Dragon Ball Z: Kyoushuu! Saiyajin
- Magical Taluluto-kun: Fantastic World
- Famicom Jump II: Saikyo no Shichinin
- Rokudenashi Blues
The Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer Weekly Shonen Jump 50th Anniversary Commemoration Version will release in Japan with a price tag of 7,980 yen.

You are already sold out.

Oh boy. Another mini.
Pretty cool stuff, I wonder if it'll get a special system menu for all that Shonen Jump goodness too?
If I could read Japanese, I'd be all over this!
I have no real reason to own this but I want it!
I know that the original Fist of the North Star game was kinda bad. I played it a bit and had a good laugh at the exploding enemies, not knowing what the game was based on back then.
I don't know how good any of the other games on this are.
So not like this is releasing outside Japan.
@SmaggTheSmug
Brilliant.
A pretty interesting selection of games there--although I notice there's only twenty included now.
That's a special edition that's worth it. All games that I don't already own (well, Dragon Quest aside).
But shipping, probably customs and most certainly scalpers will ruin the idea of getting one.
That's quite a name. We'll have to start calling it the NCMFCWSJ5ACV for short.
I swore I saw Dragonball Z well into the 2000's. But then realized back then localizing was not exactly instant. 1989-1996, so that fits the bill. The game was released in 1990 I guess, so who knew(outside Japan)?
I just want to see what it looks like. If it is too basic, we will see people mocking it by spray painting their normal NES mini and hacking these new games in.
I want one .
Just reprint the original NES Mini and I'll call it even.
They have promised that more will be available in the summer in Europe - I wonder if that will have any extras. I will be first in line this time - I sat the madness out last time and got SNES mini instead and below RRP on day of release £59 from Asda - delivered. Bargain - can’t wait for the nes mini
Just checked ebay and it's currently selling for nine million dollars. A friendly, ghostly figure then appeared telling me please understand.
Time for a NES rerelease, fingers crossed 🤞🏻
NES and SNES classics should have had a store front to add new titles. Virtual Console could have lived on through them.

Put them on a Switch cartridge and charge full price.
We won't complain.
Promise.
I'm glad you pointed out that Weekly Shonen Jump is a weekly anthology, otherwise I'd have assumed that it was quarterly.

I must have that MUSCLE game!
Sega has also announced a Jump Anniversary celebration with their new Genesis Mini console sporting some classic manga based games along with the tagline,''Sunlight Yellow Megadrive!''.
Wow, now that's a pack. Of course, there's no way in Tartarus it'll come westward with the games most of which have never been officially localised before, but this sounds like an amazing collection for the Japanese players who are into Jump legacy as well. A bunch of expansive games included, too - even the Famicom Jump ones which, if my memory serves me right, are JRPGs that did mass pop culture IP crossovers long before it was cool. The arguable grandparents of all the Smash Bros, All/Super/Ultimate-Stars, Dengeki Bunkos and other cross tag battles and blade strangers we have nowadays.
Also, Captain Tsubasa 2 - one heck of an RPG/football simulator mashup.
So, Shonen Jump games, huh?
I don't know about the others, but the Famicom Saint Seiya games are pretty bad.
oh god. Instead of allowing us to purchase more games online, they are going to force us to buy the same device for additional games.
That's pretty cool.
It will be mine. Oh yes it will be mine.
We never get good stuff in the US
@Chrayfish
That is exactly what should have happened. I'm not a genius but they could have milked that forever.
@Moroboshi876
I’m in Canada, my famicom mini arrived on release day and I spent 100 CAD only. Including shipping, custom taxes and all. Not bad!
Having an eShop on a mini works only if companies are willing to license the games to play on them. For the NES and SNES the licensing for a lot of games are a mess and for those that are not they get more money releasing them on Steam, iOS/Android and in Collections.
@Aloth Not bad! Let's hope it isn't extremely limited nor expensive.
Any chance the West gets its own edition of another NES classic edition with its exclusives?
Called it. There are too many good games to be re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-released on another mini
@Razzy
Yeah I would’ve been lost and confused otherwise.
Thanks Dom
@Moroboshi876
I forgot to mention, it was amazon.jp.
On the one hand I'm glad for Japan. On the other hand. I have a bad feeling that this will make famicom minis literally impossible to get without paying through the nose. O_o
I hope the US gets a regular colored release with more games.
Good luck people.
@andrew20
With all the scalpers, we wouldn't get it anyway.
@Muddy_4_Ever 9 million!?

More like Bandai Classic Edition. I count at least 12 Bandai license-based games on that.
SCALPERS REJOICE!
Also.....DRAGON QUEST!
I noticed one problem with that list: Isn't Tag Team Match MUSCLE the western version of Kinnikuman? I know there was another early terrible wrestling game called Tag Team Pro Wrestling by Namco (not be confused with Nintendo's Pro Wrestling). Are they releasing the same game twice even on the same console?
I think I'll try to get the old one now...
(If I could find this one I'd be all over it but alas)
I wonder if the NES mini is still on track to get a restock? I just want the controllers really.
Still waiting for news about the NA re-release of the NES mini. They said it was supposed to be this summer so maybe we can expect ours around the same time Japan gets theirs? Nintendo has been killing me with a lack of release date for this.
I get it just for sentimental value and nostalgia value besides collectors value.
So expect one here too, this year then.
Pretty dang awesome but no way is this going to get a release here. Sadly, while Jump owns those properties in Japan, dozens of companies own them in the US/UK. Same reason we didn't get Jump Ultimate Stars on DS (though it's a very easy import)
Play Asia here I come!!
I'm good with the NES Classic and SNES Classic that I have, though I would like those to be released again. Wasn't the NES Classic supposed to be restocked this year?
Good. Now just to wait for the E3 announcement for the restock overseas....
I think people forget that Nintendo told us last Fall that the Nintendo Classic Edition was going to be re-released in Summer 2018... If any of you forgot about that, here's your reminder.
@FinalFrog I later looked up and realized that Kinnikuman actually had a side-scroller sequel on the Famicom Disk System. So that's probably the other game.
Cool I guess? Seems like an extremely focused only-for the-fans kinda thing with no mass appeal potential outside of Japan.
It’s good for those who care though. I don’t really do, but I’m no fun so don’t let that affect you.
What is the point of this? If you have a ahcked mini already, you already have all these games.
@Mando44646 This is a Japan-only exclusive for a targeted fan base. That's not to say something like that would never come to the west, but it does open the door to that possibility.
@KayFiOS yes it’s been promised in UK “this summer”
Can’t wait. I have SNES mini but missed out on nes
🤤
I needs it!!
@Stocksy Looks like US is getting a restock next month. Here's hoping they're restocking the controllers, too. No one else should have to pay some lousy scalper $40 for a second controller like I did.
