Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone's lifestyle-farming simulation Stardew Valley is getting a 1.6 update in the future. In June, he revealed how it would focus on modding and also add in some "new content".
So, what's the latest? Don't worry - it's still on the way. In response to a fan's question on social media asking about a target release, Barone simply said it would arrive when it's ready. Here it is in full:
No target release date... just "when it's ready"
Barone is also currently hard at work on his next project Haunted Chocolatier. At the moment, it's locked in for a PC release, but no other major platforms have been confirmed.
Stardew's previous Version 1.5 update was previously released on the Nintendo Switch in February last year and is still on the way to mobile devices. It added new game options including the "Beach Farm", advanced game options to customise playthroughs, split-screen local co-op, and much more.
Are you still playing Stardew Valley on the Nintendo Switch? What would you like to see from a future update to this game? Comment below.

Wow, this came out right as I was getting back into Stardew.
I haven't played for awhile but I'll check it out again after the update. I tend to get addicted in spurts and then take a break. Too bad the modding part presumably won't really effect the Switch version.
The wait on mobile has been long
Mods for this game are already incredible, so I'm really excited to see how much farther it can go with official support.
I actually just started a new farm this past Friday!
Split screen local Co-op has been around for awhile now, that's how my son and I play.
I love this guy!
I should play this.
I got this game years ago and I still haven’t played it.
(Curse my big backlog)
For me, this is one of those games that I always say I want to get. But when the time comes to buy a game it always gets beaten out by another one.
Is he still a one man show?
Mobile Stardew doesn't even have 1.5 yet
More than a year ago I stopped playing after 100 hours and a finished community center. Recently, looking for a farm sim, I started where I left off and I am still loving this game! While I don't have the patience to complete many quests, I do want to make my farm a completely designed, improved area. I am slogging through winter now.
I thought maybe I should try Portia, or Rune Factory, and I tried the Harvestella demo, but I am just not getting the same feeling that I get from Stardew. What a great game!
@FishyS Switch version can use mods if you know what your doing
I wonder if my kid has died from neglect and wife has left me?
Be a bit close to reality for my liking ...
@Clammy You should probably stop playing the game and go check.
@CodyMKW Which makes me wonder why the developer cannot add official mod support to the Switch version. I mean, some Switch games like Quake already have a limited amount of mods.
The lack of mods is currently the one thing that keeps me from buying the switch version of Stardew Valley.
Not quite, has people on the porting side
Seems like he does the bulk tho
@dugan graveyard keeper has a similar look and vibe if you haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet
@CodyMKW You mean by modding right? If there IS a way without modding my Switch I'd definitely like to know! 😮
@dugan definitely give Rune Factory a go — there's a bit more emphasis on action/RPG but it definitely has a more streamlined immediacy that was missing with SV.
I would like to see an option for non-binary gender in character creation with '"they-them" pronouns ❤️
I have a couple hundred hours if play time on the Switch version of Stardew Valley. I absolutely LOVE the game, but it would be so awesome if there were some Switch MODS that let there be a bit more available interactions between player & NPC children, like maybe gift giving to raise heart levels quicker like the other NPCS. Or maybe a response choice option if one of the NPCS asks a question?
Idk. Just some food for thought. Either way, this game is my absolute favorite.
@ParadoxFawkes thanks! I will check it out!
@Andee Yes, I have wanted to play Rune Factory since 3DS, but what should I get on Switch, 4 or 5? Thanks for the suggestion!
@dugan 5 piqued my interest, so I gave 4S a crack, as it was cheaper at the time, and it was ace! I believe 5 is meant to be good, but they've completely revamped the engine into full-3D, so there is some inherent jankiness that comes along with it. I got a good, satisfactory 60 hours out of the complete story of 4S though, so I'd definitely recommend it (and 3S is coming out soon as well!)
@Andee Thank you! Looking at game play online, 4 seems to be just what I am looking for, thanks friend!
@dugan Here's another recommendation for 4S! I tried getting into 5 but the horrible frame-drops, the empty world, the bad transition into 3D and the slow pacing killed the experience in just short of a weeks playing... :/ Wanted to give the series another chance though, so I picked up 4S and had a ton of fun with it for a couple of weeks!
I stopped playing the game i love it but it got really repetitive after mine 135 plus hours. Even after new updates i just did not feel need to play it anymore.. still i would rate it 10 out of 10.
Top shelf game. Have played it a lot this year, but have shelved it for now due to Disney Dreamlight Valley. Will go back to it at some point.
Hope the update comes out this year!
