Re: Struggling For Switch 2 Storage? TeamGroup Launches A Range Of Micro SD Express Cards For The Console

dskatter

@KayFiOS By adding more internal storage. Which you can also do with the Switch 2.

Sony went non-proprietary SSD with M.2. MS went proprietary SSD with overpriced and slower expansion slot cards. Both generate heat that a portable system would have to deal with. Nintendo went non-proprietary with another microsd format that’s appreciably faster than it uses before and won’t generate the large heat amount that SSDs do. Production of said cards just needs to be ramped up, that’s all.

This isn’t Nintendo’s fault, and somehow saying that Nintendo doesn’t let you expand internal storage is very inaccurate.

Re: "One Of The Slowest Modern LCDs I've Ever Seen" - Digital Foundry's John Linneman On Switch 2's Display

dskatter

The screen in the S2 is fine for my purposes.

But then again…I play in docked 99.9% of the time so my only real experience with the screen is taking it to work the week after launch and playing a couple MKW races with friends. The screen isn’t perfect, and with how much more powerful the rest of the unit is, I can sadly see Nintendo going with a cheaper display to balance the costs.

Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"

dskatter

All of DF’s critiques are quite valid. Absolutely not game breaking, and none of them detract from my own personal experience, especially the sceeen. (especially since I play docked 99.9% of the time)

People take even the slightest criticism of their favorite thing as a blood vendetta these days. The S2 ain’t perfect by any means, but I still love mine.

Re: Forget Switch 2 Game Key-Cards - "Full On-The-Cart Physical Releases" Are What People Want, Says Publisher Lost In Cult

dskatter

“I don’t understand why people don’t like game key cards!”

Then you either a) don’t actually understand the concept, b) understand the concept but don’t like anyone badmouthing [insert company here] or c) have no problem likely losing access to that game in the future. Or d) You’re trolling.

@Eririichi In fairness, Sony wasn’t cutting off access to existing purchase redownloads for PS3/PSP/Vita. Just the actual storefronts themselves for new purchases. That PS3/Vita storefront closure is what was stopped, but even if it had gone through people would still have been able to redownload games and DLCs they’ve already claimed.

Re: More Switch Titles Get Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Fixes

dskatter

@Polvasti Well that’s good! I’m leery of dropping money on it in the eShop (since I CAN’T on the S2, I’d have to use the web!) until it’s confirmed fixed by Squeenix or Nintendo. It’s mostly a triple-dip situation anyway, since I have the PS disc and digitally on XBox already.

Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

dskatter

@Gryffin my perspective? It’s digital-only with extra steps. Still eats your internal storage, has no actual game on the card, and whenever Nintendo shuts down those download servers (a time likely far in the future, for sure, but it will happen) that “game card” will only be good for curiosities/display and nothing more.

If that’s the case, might as well buy the digital version directly and save the hassle of swapping cards. Embrace non-ownership! But I guess all of us who got Switch 2s know we don’t really own the console anyway…

Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

dskatter

I bought Cyberpunk and RF: Guardians of Azuma at launch.

Why? Because they were actually game cards and not game KEY cards.

I’d have picked up Yakuza 0 as well, but I’ll just wait for a digital sale. No reason to get it “physically.”

@Medic_alert They got a physical sale from me and I’m enjoying the game more than I thought I would! They deserve to sell a lot of copies.

@Gamer83 You may not want to hear it, but that’s exactly why I haven’t bought Yakuza 0 on Switch 2. Most PS games are absolutely on the disc, with only small bug fix patches needing download. Every other Yakuza/Like a Dragon game on PS, for example…

PlayStation seems to be the only holdout on having the games ON the disc, with certain publishers being the exceptions. totally doesn’t look at MS, Ubisoft, EA, etc

Re: Poll: Has Your Switch 2's Screen Got Any Nasty Scratches Yet?

dskatter

@ear_wig I console myself by knowing it’s the film that got scratched. My screen itself is just fine, and if I want to risk removing it down the road, I can. Thank goodness I’m a mostly-docked player, otherwise it might bother me a lot more!

@Joeynator3000 I have no idea what I did! Two previous Switches before this, ZERO scratches. The S2? Scratched within a few days.

I treat my electronics well, make sure to never have anything close to hitting the screen other than my fingers, but this time around…

Re: Poll: Has Your Switch 2's Screen Got Any Nasty Scratches Yet?

dskatter

My OG Switch was completely scratch free when I sold it to a friend last year and got an OLED. Never had a screen protector on it.

My OLED is still scratch free to this day. Never had a screen protector on it.

My Switch 2 somehow got two scratches in the middle of the screen within the first three days. It never left my home and I was insanely careful docking it.

Ah, well. The streak had to end sometime.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Cyberpunk 2077 Tech Review On Switch 2

dskatter

I’ve triple-and-a-half dipped on this, with physical PS4 discs (bought for around ten bucks when the game was utterly broken, expecting the free PS5 update), PS5 Ultimate digitally, Series X Ultimate physically and now Switch Ultimate physically.

They took a train wreck and got it into an amazingly well done state. Happy to support this game. Also happy cross-saves are supported.

Re: Switch 2 Is Officially The "Fastest-Selling Nintendo Hardware" Ever In The US

dskatter

@AstroTheGamosian I’ve had three Switch 2s in my possession since launch. One from being in line at Best Buy, one from a Target preorder I wasn’t able to cancel (immediately returned it to my local Target minutes after it was delivered!) and one via a GameStop reservation I made in-store for a friend the day after preorders went live. They got theirs release day after I ran it over to them.

There were MANY opportunities this time around and Nintendo flooded us with consoles in most areas of the US. Heck, GameStop had extras the night before release one could have reserved as well, if there was one nearby.

I will say also that I NEVER heard from Nintendo on the whole buying interest thing. Radio silence. Glad I didn’t put all my hopes in that. Or any.

Re: Review: Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition (Switch 2) - A Superb Port Of An Incredible RPG

dskatter

@Medic_alert Its the patch. if you don't update the game, it plays the Switch 2 version directly from the card. If you update it, it installs a fair bit of data on the internal storage. I'm thinking it might be all the English voice acting as well, I don't THINK that's on the S2 cart natively. I started the unpatched version, and Japanese voiceover was there from the start. Then I updated and all of a sudden it was English voices. I may test this later to see if English voice is available without the patch.

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'

dskatter

@DTfearTheBEARD Id like to think I’ll be patient. The only reasons I upgraded were a) friend desired a Saitch and b) I wanted a newer version with improved battery. I don’t use my Switch in portable mode often, but when I do it has to last a while!

Now, unless it’s a Switch 2 native or patched game involved, my OLED Switch may remain my portable console and the 2 will stay happily ensconced in its cooling dock. Maybe. Perhaps!

Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Mario Kart World's Switch 2 File Size

dskatter

@OorWullie For pure storage purposes I’d be 100% fine with it. Like I said, though, I don’t see Nintendo doing this anytime soon. But it would definitely be nice to have a 1 TB HD connected to my dock to juggle games!

This is coming from someone who has an 8 TB external hooked up to his PS5 and a 4 TB external to his Series X.

Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Mario Kart World's Switch 2 File Size

dskatter

@OorWullie I sincerely doubt dock-based external storage will ever happen. Nintendo wouldn’t want to implement storage that can be left behind when the system is taken out of the dock, and it’s likely that transfer speeds wouldn’t be acceptable either. Similar to how the PS5 won’t let you play PS5 native games from an external device but only from built in/M.2 slot storage. Especially given the faster microsd required for this gen.

The answer from Nintendo will boil down to, “what, you can’t afford a bigger card? Get a second or third job, plebe!”
