Well, it was nice to be excited about my Switch 2 for a while, anyway. Wanted to triple-dip on P3R but that isn’t happening now.

Key card release, at least in Japan.

Well, it was nice to want to buy this game again for a little while.

@ShieldHero Understandable! I grew up when the NES was top of the line gaming tech, so I haven’t had to worry about that for a long time. Or at all, really!

When you’re able to, though…wow, are you in for a treat.

@DTfearTheBEARD I suggest moving Metaphor further up your backlog list if you can. I thoroughly loved my time with that on PS, and I’ve been considering a new game plus for a bit!

@ShieldHero Well…sadly I have some bad news for you there. P3 and P5 tackle some VERY mature themes and there are a few f-bombs. 5 more than 3 but 3 still has heavy heavy themes.

They ain’t sweetness and light, that’s for sure. They LOOK sweetness and light at times, but they definitely are not.

It isn’t crudeness for the sake of crudeness. There is a reason for it all, and it isn’t gratuitous. If you can handle mature reading material, I can’t imagine you couldn’t handle this.

Think more Stephen King than GTA.

@ShieldHero Persona is turn-based. Very stylish, very elemental vulnerability based.

Think of it as a combo of a Dragon Quest style JRPG, a school life simulator, and a Pokemon style persona collecting game.

And P3 and 5 have two of the best dang game soundtracks in history. You will want to crank the volume UP.

@Switching Maybe. I know I’m loving it on PS for sure.

The best console combo right now is a PS5 and Switch 2, as far as I’m concerned. And I say this also owning a Series X.

Switch 2 owners should pray for a Forza Horizon 5 release. That and 4 were the only reasons I kept my Series X last year, and I am NOT a racing guy!

I have mild interest. I enjoyed it on iPad way back when.

@ShieldHero P3-5 are well worth your time. I’d put Persona 5 Royal in my personal top 10 of all time, in my 40+ years of gaming!

@Switching Well, I wouldn’t go that far…PS still has Clair Obscur and Switch 2 doesn’t.

@deecas I have it on disc for PS5 and Series X (technically XBox one, but smart delivery, bleh) and if they can release (admittedly lower res) P5 on a real game card then by gum they can release P3R on card as well!

What is the download size, out of curiosity?

That’s a funny way to say, “cheaper for us to make.”

Sometimes you feel a little down about your life.

Then you read an article like this and think, “You know, my life is pretty good.”

Picked up Outlaws on Series X disc (which is a joke, since it still requires internet and a download to install) for like $20 a few months back.

It…isn’t fantastic. Blame can be spread around on this one, Disney for being bleh and Ubisoft for making a very Ubisoft game.

I may go back to it someday if I get bored, but I definitely wouldn’t get it on S2 unless you can get a discount.

@nocdaes I don’t disagree it’s overpriced. But again…if you’re a Nintendo-only gamer, one’s options for playing a seven year old PS4 game are rather limited.

You could always just have a self-imposed “I will only destroy what I have to” and then you’d have what you want.

Or just enjoy getting what you get and don’t feel somehow let down by not getting there in a way the devs thought you would.

@Medic_alert There are still puzzles that require more than brute-force.

Plus this lets you discover hints in new ways the devs might not have thought of! Play it your way, it’s an open world game! You can always just…not randomly smash all over. It’s an option, not a requirement.

I…really want that Atari 2600.

The most fun I’ve had with a Nintendo game since…well, since Mario Odyssey, really.

I’ll go off onto random exploration tangents (read: smash random things because money smash is fun) and then realize, “oh yeah, I should probably do that story thing!” and get back on track an hour later.

Best Hulk game I’ve ever played.

I just wish Bananza and this didn’t release in the same week! Glad to see this isn’t a buggy mess, the total lack of reviews ANYWHERE this close to release was starting to worry me.

Thank goodness. Maybe the underperformance of all this game key launch titles hit home.

Now if they’ll do a Yakuza 0 re-release as an actual game card, the world will heal.

@CalibanKenobi That definitely sounds like a hardware issue to me. Mine has been flawless and read every single card without issue, S1 or S2.

@CalibanKenobi What card reader issue is this? I’ve experienced no issues with either my game cart or sdcard slot on my S2, curious what you’re referring to.

@SirLink Whatever faith I have in Nintendo would have gone up in smoke, I tell you that!

I’ve seen the Xbox physical disc of this on clearance for $10 round my area, and I admire the intestinal fortitude that the publisher has for charging $50 for this port!

That said, doesn’t look bad. I presume the physical version will be a key card, as is sadly usual.

Edit: confirmed, key card. Game will be around 40 GB download.

@Thomystic Reusing assets can be a very good thing.

Case in point: Yakuza/Like a Dragon games. A main game comes out, then a side game like Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii comes out and runs like a madman.

I’m glad I got my physical copy the day after my S2 was bought. It’s nice being able to pop the card into my S1 and S2 and continue playing in either, since both versions use the same save file!

Solid 8 for me. Not perfect but fun.

Still wish Bananza had been THE launch title, but the first new console Mario Kart game since the freaking Wii U was also worth it!

@JohnnyMind I will say that I was ambivalent about getting the Pro Controller 2, since my orginal works beautifully.

Very glad I did. It feels better in my hands, and the headphone jack is a blessing!

I assume rumble isn’t supported? I saw no mention of it either way at all.

I think time is already telling. Out of the three S2 owners I know personally (four, including myself) all of us are avoiding key cards like the plague.

Purely anecdotal, but I know I’d have bought Yakuza 0 at the least if it wasn’t this abomination of a format.

It’s a dang good game. I look forward to revisiting it when the Switch 2 update hits!

Sigh.

Guess I’ll hold onto my PS1 disc for the foreseeable. Such a shame that a great game got this treatment.

@TheExile285 I hate Best Buy, but they sadly do remain the best option. Target never has in-store pickup preorders, and even though BB failed me with a couple of big releases (FF16 for one) they’ve been mostly okay recently.

Just wish they still sold blu-ray movies. Had SO many good deals through them.
