Re: Xbox Is Reportedly Having "Very Big Discussions" About Exclusivity

Looks like Jez was correct after all

Some of the comments wanting Xbox to go away, like SEGA, are ridiculous. Less competition means less innovation and higher prices for Sony and Nintendo. I know I shouldn't be surprised on a Nintendo fan site, but it's poor taste.

In terms of exclusives, we shall see, but Xbox can pivot anyway they want, and it looks like they will with Asha at the helm.

@MontyCircus Depends on one's definition of "fun" and the application. I love playing Bus/Train/Truck/Flight Simulators. They are often very realistic, but to some, they could be "boring." I have fun with them because I enjoy the realism. It is the same reason I enjoyed Starfield.

The issue with Starfield was more game design - that's what made it less "fun" for players, rather than it being too realistic.

The realistic space simulation and planets are great, but some of the load screens aren't. They could have condensed the major cities into one/two solar systems for the more directed players, and for less directed players like me, I can go off and explore the rest and do all the simulation stuff that others find "boring".

They should do it and ignore the short-term naysayers. I know you won't get much support on a Nintendo fan site, but even though Nintendo continues to build its long-term success off of exclusive IPs

The new leadership should have the choice to choose its own path regardless of what choices the previous leadership made.

Short-term pain for long-term gains in brand growth and user acquisition are areas in which Asha excels.

I want Xbox to do well so it provides competition for Nintendo and Sony. This will ensure consumers get the best options and the best prices.

Re: 007 First Light Shaken By Delay On Switch 2, Now Releasing After Other Consoles

The lack of pre order page set up on the e-shop was a big giveaway that something was amiss.

If I didn't have a Series X or PS5, I would be pretty annoyed that this has been delayed, and Lego Batman will also be coming later on at a yet to be defined date. It feels like quite a few AAA games have been delayed, which is not a great trend. The strength of the Switch 2 is the JRPG library and Switch 2 exclusive games, and I relaised that it is better to get AAA games on my PS5 or Series.

Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Switch 2 Price Hike This Year, According To New Report

@BTB20 We had the largest allocation of Switch 2's for a high street/online retailer in the UK/EIRE - we are very much representative of the UK sales.

Where are you getting your data from? All of the large UK retailers I have spoken to are down double digits in hardware unit sales vs Switch 1 YTD. That's why we have all been doing price cuts to generate a pacier unit flow.

The plus side is that the brand new Joy-Cons are £10 off right now against RRP, and the OG Switch 2 ones are £12 off.

I can't speak for sales outside the UK/EIRE.

Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Switch 2 Price Hike This Year, According To New Report

@phartsy In the UK, I work for a large retailer with a large gaming secion and we have sold 33% less Switch 2's in the first 8 months vs the 1st 8 months of Switch 1, which had a supply issue. The pricing is more expensive than an Xbox Series S by almost £100 on the cheapest models. Japan is selling more (due to competitive price), and Western markets are selling less due to higher than expected prices. It's just how it is. We have even done a £10 price cut on the base and a £20 price cut on the Mario bundle, plus £10 on the Pro Controller, to try and stimulate some growth.

I have no vested interest in how Nintendo does as a business, but increasing prices in the EU and US markets can't bode well for future sales. Hopefully, they find another solution to absorb the cost. At my end, I would like Nintendo to do well as it means we can actually sell all the stock we have paid for upfront.

Re: Video: 007 First Light Official Story Trailer Revealed

The gameplay looks quite demanding - I wouldn't be surprised if this gets delayed on Switch 2 out of May, like Lego Batman tbh.

If it does come to Switch 2 on the same day as PS5 and Xbox and runs at a locked 30 or 40fps with the required cutbacks, I will be very impressed. The Hitman stuff should be fine for the Switch 2, but the open-world chase/car-related gameplay may struggle.

I have a PS5 Pro, so I'm already leaning toward getting it there, but if it runs well on Switch 2, then it may change my mind or get me to double-dip for that portable play.

Re: Capcom's New IP Is Off To A Promising Start As Demo Hits One Million "Combined Downloads"

I had this on my radar, but I was cautious about how the gameplay would actually work. The gameplay in the demo pleasantly surprised me and was reasonably challenging on the regular mode, yet really quite enjoyable. There is also a casual mode, which is also great news for those who struggle with the default difficulty a bit. I also really like that this gets close to 60fps on the Switch 2 and still looks great (albeit with some cutbacks to Resolution/Lighting/Raytracing).

Re: Video: Monster Hunter Stories 3 Trial Demo Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch 2, Xbox Series S, PS5)

darylb24

My main gripe with the Switch 2 version vs the PS5 version is the noticeable frame rate inconsistency (hovering 30-40fps) rather than just having a locked 30fps mode. Capcom games often do this (looking at you Dragons Dogma 2).

Overall, the visuals are softer, but they still look great. Hopefully, they can use the additional dev time over the next month to offer a locked 30fps mode and smooth out frame pacing issues, which cause the bumpiness.

As this is an open-world game with vast draw distances and higher LOD, it is more CPU-intensive, which is why it is running at a lower FPS than controlled environmental games like RE9 and Pragmamta, which can get close to 60fps. Don't be fooled by the art style - it's the tech running underneath that often determines the frame times you can achieve.
