Re: Japanese My Nintendo Store Goes Down Amidst Switch 2 Lottery Frenzy

darylb24

@Kid_Sickarus The fact that you have to pay the full amount upfront means that if you have money right now, you might have a chance. I think that as people get paid in the next few days, the stores with stock will sell out soon. Smyths sold through all their in-store pre-orders, as you only had to pay £20. I went on the 3rd April in the evening, and I was the 2nd from last person to get a pre-order in based allocation that the store got for launch day.

Re: Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma Switch 2 Cart Will Apparently Also Work On Switch 1

darylb24

Just to be clear you can insert the gamecards for Switch 1 and 2 in both systems. The notch changes are for the system to understand what card has been inserted into that system, not to prevent a card being put into a system - so yes you can put a Switch 2 card in the Swich 1 port - it will only work where the publisher puts both ports on one card though (hence why Nintendo won't publices this to ensure consumers aren't confused).

The reason that Rune Factory is using the 64GB card for this game is that, in this instance, both the Switch one version and the upgrade are going onto this card.

You can play any Switch 2 edition games in Switch 1, and it just strips out the Switch 2 upgrade pack.

Hope that clears things up for anyone unsure or misinformed.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Switch 2 Rating Spotted Online

darylb24

It will be a good barometer of what the Switch 2 can do. I have been enjoying the game on Xbox, and it's good to see Switch 2 players get the option to purchase the game if they want to. I know there are naysayers, but just because they won't, doesn't mean you can't.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 US Pre-Orders Start 24th April, System & Launch Game Pricing Unchanged

darylb24

Good luck to my NLife friends in America and Canada securing your Switch 2 pre-order!

On another note, I think they did the smart thing, increasing accessories slightly and taking a bigger loss on the console rather than the other way around. None of it is good, but the optics would have looked much worse if the console were $50 more. $450/£396 is a reasonable price considering it is a home console and a portable console. It offers as much if not a bit more, than a Steam Deck, which is in the same price bracket.

$500/£500/Euros seems to be around the hard limit for the mass market. The PS5 pro offering far more supply than demand has shown that. If you are throwing $/£800 on just a console with a disc drive, you probably would pay a bit more to get a PC anyway.

Re: PS5 Digital Edition Now More Expensive Than Switch 2 In UK & Europe

darylb24

I sold my PS5 recently as it's not offering any games I am interested in. I decided the money is better invested in the number of Switch games I am interested in.

The JRPGS I can get on PS5, I can get on my Switch/Switch 2, and the AAA exceptions can be brought on my Xbox.

Hopefully, the PS6 generation will offer some new IP to get interested in rather than sequels/remakes and remasters.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2

darylb24

@Cakefish Depends what country you are based in really. The UK and US along with Japan has significant stockpiles already in their countries with respective retailers able to bid for allocations based on guaranteed pre orders (hence pre orders happening in waves). The Nintendo store stock comes from that same stock pile. The good news is for these particular countries is that units are only allocated on a pre order basis due to demand. In the UK as an example the first shipment allocation was around 200,000 in January from China (no high tariffs). UK retailers can provide pre orders for the allocations they are given. Currys got 15,000 while Argos and Amazon got around 25,000. Smyth's got 20,000 and I think Game for 15,000. Other retailers got smaller amounts. Once the allocations sell out they can request more.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

darylb24

The main reason I got an Xbox is you can get cheaper 3rd party controllers with trigger stops. It's so much better for almost all genres. Even with Cyberpunk 2077 the acceleration of cars is adapted in a way that it doesn't matter how far you press the triggers. This can also be adapted for the Switch version for any car based games.

Also, Switch Up confirmed in their London Event video that the d-pad was greatly improved while playing SF6.

Re: Opinion: The Switch 2 Is A Powerhouse For The Price

darylb24

The Switch 2 price is good value. The Xbox Series X and S prices are good value, The PS5 is good value. The PS5 Pro, while being expensive, is good for the performance it delivers.

Console gaming offers better per £/$ value on the hardware.

You generally pay more for hardware per TFLOP and get cheaper software with P,C or you get cheaper hardware per TFLOP and more expensive games.

The console is of course, more mass market friendly, not having to mess with a wide range of settings.

Both have pros and cons, but overall, the Switch 2 outperforms the Steam Deck at a similar price. And will outsell the SD's 4million lifetime units in a day or two.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2

darylb24

@lemonjellydude Glad you got one!

FYI for everyone else in the UK the standard Switch 2 is still available at Argos right now but will go quick!

Argos take full payment upfront - Only Smyths lets you pay on dispatch or a £20 deposit in store. Smyths had a couple of online and in store batches but have sold out now. Only some store in NI are allowing pre orders now. I am glad I got my instore pre order last Thursday before they sold through allocation. I only had to pay £20 too and will have to pay the rest when I pick it up on the 5th.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Nintendo Switch 2

darylb24

@BaldB3lper78 Argos and Game want the money up front too, only Smyths don't require the full payment online, but in store I had to pay a £20 deposit. I think this is because it's a very high-demand product, and they want to be able to request allocation based on guaranteed orders.

The UK is the 3rd largest Nintendo market behind the US and Japan, so retailers will be requesting as many units as they can get (supply won't meet demand in these countries even at current prices).

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Price Has Been Confirmed

darylb24

I guess there are 2 ways to look at it. Sony gives away free games but lays off thousands of staff. Nintendo charges for all its games but has no major layoffs, studio closures, and high staff satisfaction.

As consumers we pay for staff wellbeing as well as shareholder wellbeing. The well-being of staff in the future will depend on the balancing act of pricing and price resistance on the consumer part. Given most retailers go below the RRP for Nintendo games, I think the pricing issues will die down pretty quickly.

Did we get spoiled with Astro Bot? for sure we did. I think we all would prefer to get as much for free as possible, but I would rather pay £5 and keep Nintendo developers in jobs long term.

Nintendo doesn't always make popular business decisions, but they make the right ones for staff stability.
