The UK prices don't bother me, but it's fair if it's not worth enough value for someone else. The market will decide as usual. What I won't tolerate is someone telling me I'm stupid for how much I choose to spend on a hobby of mine. That is not logical or reasonable.
Out of about the 35 controllers I have owned across PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox, 2 have drifted, and that happened after I dropped them on the floor.
Update looks like Smyth's are sold out of in store pre orders now too but Currys still accepting pre orders with full payment upfront and day 1 launch.
@BaldB3lper78 Argos and Game want the money up front too, only Smyths don't require the full payment online, but in store I had to pay a £20 deposit. I think this is because it's a very high-demand product, and they want to be able to request allocation based on guaranteed orders.
The UK is the 3rd largest Nintendo market behind the US and Japan, so retailers will be requesting as many units as they can get (supply won't meet demand in these countries even at current prices).
I guess there are 2 ways to look at it. Sony gives away free games but lays off thousands of staff. Nintendo charges for all its games but has no major layoffs, studio closures, and high staff satisfaction.
As consumers we pay for staff wellbeing as well as shareholder wellbeing. The well-being of staff in the future will depend on the balancing act of pricing and price resistance on the consumer part. Given most retailers go below the RRP for Nintendo games, I think the pricing issues will die down pretty quickly.
Did we get spoiled with Astro Bot? for sure we did. I think we all would prefer to get as much for free as possible, but I would rather pay £5 and keep Nintendo developers in jobs long term.
Nintendo doesn't always make popular business decisions, but they make the right ones for staff stability.
@Mana_Knight I doubt they will get very far yet, considering you can walk into Smyths or Currys and pre-order. We will only see the actual effect of scalping when launch day comes.
A 120Hz Monitor or TV will be essential to get the most out of the Switch TV mode. 40fps work great for PS5 games and I can't wait to try the 40hz mode for Switch 2.
@jwfurness From what I can see from the back end work-wise wise there is a huge drop-off in Switch and Switch OLED deliveries. There are no more projected, so the stock of them shall dry up by June on purpose to push new customers over to Switch 2. The Switch Lite will continue with deliveries for now and has a minor £10 price cut coming up.
Of course, Smyths broke the pre-order street date. Gutted I missed out on pre-ordering one there. I managed to pre-order one via ShopTo during the direct and I was lucky as that is now sold out. I also requested a pre-order invite from Amazon. I got updates from Currys and Argos, but I'd better be on it as they probably won't stick to the 8th now.
9/10. I enjoyed the show. There were some great AAA additions and the performance looks to be as good as I was hoping for. The UK price of the console is good, and while the game prices aren't amazing £58.99 - £74.99 isn't as awful as the $80-£90 price points. The mouse feature has me excited too.
