I honestly have not trusted game in years and glad I went with Smyth's who actually do midnight launches and have better stock allocation these days. The fact that they have limited stock to buy on the 5th is very helpful to those who couldn't secure a pre order
@Captain_Kirk I spoke to the manager at my store, and for in-store pre-orders, the money will be taken at a point on Wednesday, when they receive their stock. It seems like Smyths are keeping the stock at their own warehouses and then shipping it on Wednesday to stop staff breaking the street date. For online home delivery, it will be when the item ships (Guessing that will be early next week too).
Criticising the game will do nothing; not buying it has the biggest impact if you truly feel it's not worth it, or previous games haven't been worth it. For devs and publishers, money talks.
@Captain_Kirk It says 2-7 days on there for online delivery, but I haven't had any confirmation on in-store pick-up. I have seen different things about that, although it looks to be close to the launch date. Also, if the payment bounces, you will receive an email giving you 24 hours to re-enter the payment details.
@Captain_Kirk I have had the 1p active card check, but I'm guessing you mean they pre-authorise the full amount prior. I feel like I remember them taking the payment a bit before you collect, as people could take the console and let the payment bounce.
@OldGamer999 So, for Click and Collect, you pay in the store? For Smyths click and collect, I normally pay via card online before they let me take the thing home. I haven't done a pre-order with them yet, though. I just can't imagine they would let me take my system home without paying first (Like if a card got declined).
I'm quite surprised but the perceived shortage of stock in the US. In the UK, I have been able to comfortably pre-order 2 units and could have pre-ordered a couple more. The UK is one of the largest Nintendo markets, and demand is high. I am guessing the UK must be a priority market for Nintendo based on the % of profit it makes (more than Japan and the US). Even though pre-orders do sell out quickly, we are getting really good restocks, and Nintendo even let me pre-order a unit just for being an NSO member without any other requirements this week.
Despite Nintendo's higher profit margin on the UK units, the £396 price point is very good for a dual-purpose machine. It's also cheaper than both the base PS5 and Series X consoles. I do expect the base console to go up to £430 or even £450 within the next year, though.
@Duncanballs Sadly, a lot of these hypercritical "game enthusiasts" spend a lot more time online than they do on video games. I am personally excited for the console after a rough 12 months.
If you have a NSO subscription, you can preorder the standard Switch 2 on the UK my Nintendo store. It's looking like the UK has excellent stock allocation.
I would expect to see many PS4 games get the port across, but not too many current-gen games due to the CPU and GPU limitations. Don't expect GTA 6, but maybe RDR2. The Witcher 4 would barely run on a more powerful Series S, so Switch 2 would be a no-no.
I much preferred the linear style of sword and shield with open zones, as the open world attempts at Pokémon tend to be quite empty and barren. It is a great achievement, though.
@Kid_Sickarus The fact that you have to pay the full amount upfront means that if you have money right now, you might have a chance. I think that as people get paid in the next few days, the stores with stock will sell out soon. Smyths sold through all their in-store pre-orders, as you only had to pay £20. I went on the 3rd April in the evening, and I was the 2nd from last person to get a pre-order in based allocation that the store got for launch day.
Is this common? Or is the developer/publisher just trying to push submit an unfinished product? Clearly something bigger is up if Nintendo are rejecting the game. They let on shovel ware.
Just to be clear you can insert the gamecards for Switch 1 and 2 in both systems. The notch changes are for the system to understand what card has been inserted into that system, not to prevent a card being put into a system - so yes you can put a Switch 2 card in the Swich 1 port - it will only work where the publisher puts both ports on one card though (hence why Nintendo won't publices this to ensure consumers aren't confused).
The reason that Rune Factory is using the 64GB card for this game is that, in this instance, both the Switch one version and the upgrade are going onto this card.
You can play any Switch 2 edition games in Switch 1, and it just strips out the Switch 2 upgrade pack.
Hope that clears things up for anyone unsure or misinformed.
It will be a good barometer of what the Switch 2 can do. I have been enjoying the game on Xbox, and it's good to see Switch 2 players get the option to purchase the game if they want to. I know there are naysayers, but just because they won't, doesn't mean you can't.
Good luck to my NLife friends in America and Canada securing your Switch 2 pre-order!
On another note, I think they did the smart thing, increasing accessories slightly and taking a bigger loss on the console rather than the other way around. None of it is good, but the optics would have looked much worse if the console were $50 more. $450/£396 is a reasonable price considering it is a home console and a portable console. It offers as much if not a bit more, than a Steam Deck, which is in the same price bracket.
$500/£500/Euros seems to be around the hard limit for the mass market. The PS5 pro offering far more supply than demand has shown that. If you are throwing $/£800 on just a console with a disc drive, you probably would pay a bit more to get a PC anyway.
It's a win win situation. Nintendo fans gets the Xbox games that personally like and MS get more money on the software which is much more profitable than any hardware.
@joeyflannel Maybe after via social media, but the show would have already been pre-recorded, and it wouldn't make sense to give a country-only update for a global stream.
Coming from Sony, who have been adding a number on the end of each console, and making each one a bit more powerful than the last? Okay former Sony executive we believe you.
One thing I can tell you is that there is nothing innovative about PS5 games. Even Astro Bot is a Mario-like.
I sold my PS5 recently as it's not offering any games I am interested in. I decided the money is better invested in the number of Switch games I am interested in.
The JRPGS I can get on PS5, I can get on my Switch/Switch 2, and the AAA exceptions can be brought on my Xbox.
Hopefully, the PS6 generation will offer some new IP to get interested in rather than sequels/remakes and remasters.
@Cakefish Depends what country you are based in really. The UK and US along with Japan has significant stockpiles already in their countries with respective retailers able to bid for allocations based on guaranteed pre orders (hence pre orders happening in waves). The Nintendo store stock comes from that same stock pile. The good news is for these particular countries is that units are only allocated on a pre order basis due to demand. In the UK as an example the first shipment allocation was around 200,000 in January from China (no high tariffs). UK retailers can provide pre orders for the allocations they are given. Currys got 15,000 while Argos and Amazon got around 25,000. Smyth's got 20,000 and I think Game for 15,000. Other retailers got smaller amounts. Once the allocations sell out they can request more.
The main reason I got an Xbox is you can get cheaper 3rd party controllers with trigger stops. It's so much better for almost all genres. Even with Cyberpunk 2077 the acceleration of cars is adapted in a way that it doesn't matter how far you press the triggers. This can also be adapted for the Switch version for any car based games.
Also, Switch Up confirmed in their London Event video that the d-pad was greatly improved while playing SF6.
I will avoid it because I'll be buying digital. The game key is very much like the PS and Xbox game you download and then you must insert the disc. The disc doesn't have much on it beyond the licence key so you can resell. Of course you'll need internet to download the product like PS or Xbox.
The Switch 2 price is good value. The Xbox Series X and S prices are good value, The PS5 is good value. The PS5 Pro, while being expensive, is good for the performance it delivers.
Console gaming offers better per £/$ value on the hardware.
You generally pay more for hardware per TFLOP and get cheaper software with P,C or you get cheaper hardware per TFLOP and more expensive games.
The console is of course, more mass market friendly, not having to mess with a wide range of settings.
Both have pros and cons, but overall, the Switch 2 outperforms the Steam Deck at a similar price. And will outsell the SD's 4million lifetime units in a day or two.
Why are so many people triggered by a Youtuber? My brother is a popular Animal Crossing Youtuber and has just bought himself a 3 bedroom house with savings to spare in his mid 20s. it is a "real job" that in some cases pays very well.
I'm feeling increasingly grateful I was able to do an in store pre order at Smyths last Thursday! The store I went to has sold out its allocation for day one launch.
FYI for everyone else in the UK the standard Switch 2 is still available at Argos right now but will go quick!
Argos take full payment upfront - Only Smyths lets you pay on dispatch or a £20 deposit in store. Smyths had a couple of online and in store batches but have sold out now. Only some store in NI are allowing pre orders now. I am glad I got my instore pre order last Thursday before they sold through allocation. I only had to pay £20 too and will have to pay the rest when I pick it up on the 5th.
