@jefferson7 I appreciate your level-headed post, but with all due respect, you sound like the type of person who labels everyone who thinks like me a strawman SJW that is ready to rally a mob to burn it all down over every offense on the Internet. All I said was that I won't be getting the game.
People in their 20s are still adults. That's old enough to drink, vote, go to war, run for several public offices, develop video games, own a house, go to college and go out into the world acquire all sorts of life experiences. Please don't act like 20-somethings are still fledglings that don't know any better because they're still clutching their parent's legs for protection from a harsh world. I've grown a ton in that span as well, but I was still an adult that was expected to have some level of maturity, compassion, and at the very least, tolerance for people from other walks of life.
I said absolutely nothing about "advancing the cause of social justice or equity by declining to play this game." I'm not so full of myself as to believe that doing so would mean anything to anyone other than myself. I said I won't be supporting the game. Show me the part where I said that no else should either.
It makes me wonder if some of you feel the need to step up and defend this guy because you either see a bit of yourself in him, or you're feeling a little guilt knowing you're looking the other way while patronizing a reprehensible clod.
@luke88 If it was your intention to dismiss the claims of misogyny and ableism, then you failed. Hard. All you said in your post to me is " to label him a "racist POS" forever is pretty unfair" in your opinion, conveniently ignoring all of derogatory posts toward "woman" (sic) and liberal use of the R-word. It very much read like, "Yeah, he may be a chauvinist pig who thinks women aren't equal and doesn't respect the developmentally disabled, but he's definitely not racist because he said he's sorry!"
Yes, it is fair to hold him accountable for what others have said. He's a mod in his Discord channel. Want to know who holds people accountable for what they say? Mods on every other social site, like this one we're on right now. The fact that he is perfectly tolerable and even indulgent in the messed up things others post says just as much about him.
If you plan on enjoying the game, then just enjoy it without trying to play defense for the bigot. If you have the ability to play it without this context behind it in mind, good for you. It's pretty clear from your posts that denying facts looking you in the eye comes pretty natural. But my life experiences and advocacy for others won't allow me to do the same.
@luke88 Read all of the comments from what source? Also, the amounts of gymnastics you're doing to cover up for a bigot is astounding.
You focused on me calling him a "racist POS" while leaving out all of the misogyny, ableism and other offensive remarks slattered all over his posts, to say nothing of the community he attracts and enables. And WTF are you talking about "forever"? Do you know him personally? Sounds to me like you're doing an awfully lot of projecting.
To quote @Purgatorium in #46: Step 1: Deny, attack the source. Step 2: When confronted with evidence, equivocate. "Well that's not technically racist." Step 3: "Keep politics out of games."
If someone keeps making similarly themed jokes about a concept or subject, it probably says something about where that person's head is at. You all want to pretend like it's just fun and games when the humor doesn't do any harm to you personally. "It's just comedy man, geez, people can't joke about anything anymore"
@ArcticEcho Came to say the same thing. The story is in line with every other Tales game with most of the same plot tropes and the characters not named Malik are as deep as a puddle, but the battle system is peak action RPG.
I've been wanting a game inspired by the Chao garden and pet raising aspects from the Sonic Adventure games since Sega won't do it, so I'll keep an eye on this one.
@N00BiSH Thank you for posting that. Absolutely no one can read through some of these posts and come out of it honestly thinking that the guy isn't a racist, sexist, ableist POS.
I won't be supporting his game now.
@LadyCharlie Thank you for starting the conversation and raising awareness about that horrible guy. Just like I don't have time for bad games, I don't have respect and support for bad people.
EDIT: clearly I was wrong. There are some Olympic-level mental gymnasts in here putting on the leotard to make themselves feel better about supporting a bigot.
@CazSonOfCaz It would have been easier for them to just take the game's box art and turn that into a poster, and it would look so much better. That cat vomit they're offering now looks like something you'd find on an anime wallpaper site from the early days of the Internet.
@TCKuma I was about to say the same thing, but then again, we're getting a port of LEGO Horizon Adventures on Switch, so a little speculation and wishing is not totally out of the question!
@Ace-Lucario @sketchturner You're in for a treat. The gameplay WILL be dated at this point, but the plot, lore, script, atmosphere, world building and voice acting all make the package worth it.
One of the greatest tragedies of our time is that this series never got a conclusion, and we were left hanging on a cliff.
@YoshiParty and @Edu23XWiiU Thanks for the insight and for straightening me out. I was going to say that they could take the arcade version of the game, but that system board was based on the Wii as well.
Good thing I still have my Wii copy sitting at home, ready to go at a moment's notice.
@Edu23XWiiU I played the entirety of TvC with a GameCube or Classic Controller. It'll translate to modern systems just fine, lol.
The reason it's (almost) impossible to port is because of licensing issues. Tatsunoko's Western licensing problems are several orders more complicated than Marvel/Disney's, and it was a miracle that we ever got TvC at all. Hopefully things have simplified since then, and maybe they even somehow include Speed Racer as an extra character or something.
@chiefeagle02 That's the way storage memory works, my friend. At the onset of the Switch's life, I bought a 200GB card for the price of what one of those 1TB cost now at a sale price. It feels so silly now; I should have just waited a while and managed my space to get a higher-capacity card, but then I remember other factors like not knowing about sites like Deku Deals (so not being able to follow sales trends), not anticipating how much third-part support the Switch would get, and just letting the fear of missing out get to me at the time.
I don't plan on getting the Switch 2 until Nintendo starts putting out special editions, so memory will be even cheaper by then. Hopefully a 2TB card will be in the price range of what a 1TB is now.
@Dr_Corndog I never finished Donkey Kong Country back in the day or on the Wii VC because I got tired of having to replay two levels I had already beaten just to get back to the point where I kept running out of lives. I was just thinking the other day that since I can now make an improved saved system via save states, I can just save before each level like the original game should have been.
@Bobb Love your comment. As a kid, I had a lot more free times and very few games, so dealing with tedium, difficulty and questionable design was something I didn't mind so much. As an adult with too many games and never enough time, I ain't wasting it struggling to overcome a part of a game that I don't find fun. Save states and the rewind feature have made many games I would have never touched again (or in the first place) a considerable option again because spending hours or even days trying to beat that one boss or get past that one level just to fail over and over and spend copious amounts of time getting back to that point to fail again isn't appealing in gaming today.
I love Clover/Platinum's games, but can't stand this guy. Every interview or news story where he talks shows how much of a cantankerous jerk he is, and he seems like working for him would've been hell.
He's the boss that takes all of the glory but none of the blame.
@CupidStunt Most of those sales come from re-releases of the game on newer platforms; it originally tanked on the PS2 upon its initial release. Also, that username wags finger ~_~
@arekdougy I tried to buy Phantom Hourglass from a third-party WM seller a few months ago, and it didn't even bother to send me a repro cart: I opened up the package to the the thin plastic DS cart holder (the kind just big enough to hold the cart, not the full case with box art and big enough to hold a manual) and some crappy 75-in-1 pirated game compilation with generic anime art on the cover with kanji. I too went ape you-know-what and got a refund. That cart is still sitting on my night stand, lol.
@SuperBro64 **goes to go look into this project called "The Missing Link"**
I first assumed from the headline that it was for an e-Sports competition with money, fame and glory on the line. Not that it justifies his actions and behavior in any way, but it's at least more understandable if there were real things on the line and he let himself go in the moment. It kind of reads now that he could have just been playing games all by himself and had more time to chill out. I really hope this guy gets some help.
@nhSnork I completely forgot about that Trauma Center endgame, oh my gosh! In addition to having to be completely on point from start to finish, it also required a degree of luck. I should play those games again, but that final stage in TC ain't got nothing on the final boss of No More Heroes 2 with Bitter difficulty!
@Desrever Anytime an arcade game I loved as a kid comes to a console I own, my lips stretch from ear to ear like I'm the killer from your favorite slasher flick. I was that kid on trips to the arcade that only had eight quarters in his pocket while everyone else had $20 worth, so I had to make every single second of that time count.
Speaking of characters missing from the arcade versions, this video confirms that they are be added to the ports in this collection. The only character that will not be available is Norimaro from Marvel Super Heroes; which is not the worst thing in the world for us Westerners, who never had access to him to begin with.
Lastly, we'll be able to switch between Japanese and international versions of each game. So this collection really is going to be the definitive way to play these games going forward.
In the first NL article on this site yesterday, I got into a debate about original arcade ports vs. home console ports based on those arcade versions from back in the day. I linked a bunch of videos that went over how the home console ports were gimped, but I found another one that sums up why the arcade versions are superior (outside of missing characters) in the first three minutes:
Speaking of characters missing from the arcade versions, this video confirms that they are be adding to the ports in this collection. With each release of Rare's catalog on the NSO, my hopes for Rare Replay die...
I'm happy for those that don't mind these versions, but I'd still prefer them on Rare Replay with proper widescreen support, framerate enhancements and other QoL features they won't get on NSO.
@-wc- I didn't say every single arcade game is superior to the home console version either. Care to hold yourself to the same standard you use when being pedantic toward others' comments? 🫣 Because I can think of a couple of times you've pounced on me for what I thought were innocuous comments. Actually, I like your idea of just not saying anything to each other at all and allowing me to post in peace as well 👋
The PS version... didn't allow you to tag in partners in a match. That is a MAJOR gameplay element that pretty much makes it an entirely different game, Mr. Additional Content and Features.
But go ahead and find some more games that have nothing to do with the MvC games in question and widen the scope of what you originally said. Those goalposts aren't going to move themselves. Toodles! 👌
@-wc- "I want to raise awareness of home ports, they are often much better (even aurally and visually) than the arcade games they are based on"
That's a pretty reductive stance. It wasn't really until about the Dreamcast era where home versions of games were on par with their arcade counterparts. The home versions of those Capcom 2D fighters often had fighters with missing frames of animation to save on RAM requirements on more limited hardware, missing background animations and effects on stages, simplified endings to save on disc space, and programmed at a lower resolution.
The Dreamcast is around the time where arcades started dying in the West; because it was capable of keeping up with them, it made arcades irrelevant.
@Olliemar28 Where are these PlayStation handheld rumors coming from? Unless Sony goes the same route as Nintendo, I don't see how it would do any better than the Vita.
At this point, I think Sony really isn't all that worried about Japan and is more focused on winning the western market and global market as a whole. If Nintendo can call itself the king of home, whatevs. As long as it continues to keep a foot on Xbox's throat and maintain a strong userbase and subscriber base between consoles, Nintendo can have lil' ol' Nippon.
I saw what looked like a first person view of fighting with with the Megazord, and it instantly reminded me of the mech fights from Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon. And that that, I say "YES PLEASE! INJECT IT STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS!"
@Thief I'd love it if you're right (I bought it at launch, but I'd love for others to get the sale), but games like ARMS and Daemon X Machina have never been discounted more than 35% digitally, and they didn't set the world on fire in terms of sales either. DxM is the the only Nintendo-published game I'm aware of that has gone as low as 50% off physically as well.
Glad that Nintendo is living in the lap of luxury these days, but the biggest drawback is it has no reason to be desperate to get games in peoples' hands with good sales. I still remember the Wii U promotion to buy Mario Kart and get an entire retail game for free digitally. That's how I got Wind Waker HD!
@eza Yep, it's a Tile card! Like once a year, I forget/misplace/let my wallet fall out of my pocket, and I either spend days looking for it or spend time and money replacing cards and IDs (and then inevitably find it later). So that thing pays for itself.
I remember playing a demo/kiosk for the original Luigi's Mansion way back in the day and wanting more, then finally getting access to the full game years later and just being bored out of my mind halfway through the game, despite it's short runtime. It felt like a tech demo that got greenlit for a full game.
That feeling has put me off from touching the next two LMs, although I'd like to give the series another shot. I hope Nintendo releases a demo (although that didn't do much good for me the first time).
@Spider-Kev Fire Emblem Awakening has characters you can only unlock and recruit via StreetPass. So if you are starting the game for the first time now (or if you have to wipe the game's save file for any reason), you're at the mercy of hoping to run into someone else carrying their 3DS around too if you want to use said characters.
@may2day2 "Then come up with a better solution that doesn't exclude people who don't live or frequent high traffic areas."
What's so hard to understand about that? New consoles mean new and/or improved features. You want the literal same version of StreetPass that 3DS introduced more than a decade ago with the same flaws. That's like wanting the 3DS's slow and clunky OS and eShop, the limitations on how it handled DLC and downloads, and any other features that it came with to have carried over to the Switch to stay exactly the same because you personally like it. Should the Switch have been the 3DSwitch with the sterescopic 3D that everyone turned off after a week?
Obviously, people aren't missing StreetPass too badly, seeing as how Switch is on its way to being Nintendo's best selling console of all time. Newer consoles drop less popular features of older consoles all of the time, oh no.
It seems that the main thing people miss out on all of the time is the point 🤦♂️
@may2day2 Then come up with a better solution that doesn't exclude people who don't live or frequent high traffic areas.
@Waluigi451 I had no idea that's what the Nintendo Zone app was for, but I'm glad Nintendo threw rural people some sort of bone. It still doesn't change the fact that latecomers to games (i.e., anyone starting up a game now) get locked out of content and it creates FOMO.
@Late A lot to break down here.
"Yes, phones and wallet are more valuable than 3DS, and that's kind of the point. If you are comfortable carrying them with you, you shouldn't be afraid of carrying your 3DS."
I didn't say more valuable, I said more IMPORTANT. Your phone and your wallet are crucial to your everyday life, not a gaming console. If you lose those, your entire life is flipped upside down. Also, you know how games like classic Resident Evil have inventory systems based on item's size and limited carrying space? Real life works kind of like that as well. I can easily walk around with a phone and wallet in my pockets, or carry them for short periods if I don't have pockets. And they justify themselves more easily because there are crucial things I cannot do without them. There is nothing crucial about a 3DS in public, outside of fighting boredom (but your phone can have games too). Speaking of size...
"As for the size, the original 3DS model is about the same size as my phone, just a bit thicker."
That phone must be thicc!
"I didn't have a problem once I got the XL either. It still fit my front pocket, regardless of which pants I was wearing. If your pants can't fit it and you want to carry it with you, how about buying new pants with bigger pockets?"
You must be thicc too! That, or you love your Jnco jeans that I haven't seen since the 90s. You're welcome to buy me these pants with bigger pockets that you recommend. I'm sure that they can double as parachutes if I ever find myself needing to jump from a plane.
"There isn't really a way to track your 3DS if you lose it, no. Tracking your stuff wasn't really a thing when 3DS came out. And to quote what you said, it's just a plastic toy, why would you track it?"
Because it's still an expensive toy that cost several hundred dollars, and many of us have not only several dozens/hundreds of dollars worth of games downloaded to it, but several dozens/hundreds of hours poured into said games that are of high personal value to us.
Please Nintendo, do not bring back StreetPass. It doesn't do anything for people living in rural areas, except lock them out of content that only people in high-traffic markets can enjoy. And when servers inevitably go down, then all latecomers are punished as well.
@Late you're comparing two things that are A) smaller and can reasonably fit into someone's pocket an entire day B) FAR more important than a toy to a gigantic, plastic toy that would only fit inside a purse or a pair of Jnco's.
And phones have software specifically designed to allow them to be tracked when they're lost. I keep an RFID card in my wallet that allows it to do the same thing. Can you do that with a 3DS, outside of super glue?
If a shift toward turn-based RPG elements with more social sim aspects and ridiculously garish character designs is what Fire Emblem needs, then why didn't Tokyo Mirage Sessions do better on Wii U and Switch?
@Ralizah Gave your comment a like because you summed everything up perfectly, but how did the series have dungeons and JRPG elements before the second game in the series when the first game in the series definitely did not have dungeons and the main JRPG element was leveling up and character classes?
@abbyhitter I'm going to have to do the same, but since Atlas wants to screw us over, I'll give it the middle finger right back and get a used copy of Vengeance a few years down the line.
I could (almost) excuse Capcom for this garbage practice in the days before DLC and the ability to bolt on expansions, but there is no excuse for it in 2024.
@Ralizah $30 is the sucker's/loyalist's price. About half a year after launch, it'll go on sale for half off every couple of months like the Castlevania and Contra collections.

I found another one that sums up why the arcade versions are superior (outside of missing characters) in the first three minutes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTf_A1qthts&t=181s[/url]
Speaking of characters missing from the arcade versions, this video confirms that they are be added to the ports in this collection. The only character that will not be available is Norimaro from Marvel Super Heroes; which is not the worst thing in the world for us Westerners, who never had access to him to begin with.
Lastly, we'll be able to switch between Japanese and international versions of each game. So this collection really is going to be the definitive way to play these games going forward.
Re: Yes, The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection Is Getting A Physical Release

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Gets Four New Additions Today, Including Zelda, Metroid, And Perfect Dark
With each release of Rare's catalog on the NSO, my hopes for Rare Replay die...
I'm happy for those that don't mind these versions, but I'd still prefer them on Rare Replay with proper widescreen support, framerate enhancements and other QoL features they won't get on NSO.
Re: Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics Will Get Super On Switch This Year
@-wc- I didn't say every single arcade game is superior to the home console version either. Care to hold yourself to the same standard you use when being pedantic toward others' comments? 🫣 Because I can think of a couple of times you've pounced on me for what I thought were innocuous comments. Actually, I like your idea of just not saying anything to each other at all and allowing me to post in peace as well 👋
Re: Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics Will Get Super On Switch This Year
@-wc- "I want to raise awareness of home ports, they are often much better (even aurally and visually) than the arcade games they are based on"
and then
"remember, im mostly talking about additional content and features, not graphics"
Don't sprain your ankle moving those goalpoasts any faster 👍✌️
X-Men: Children of the Atom, arcade vs. PlayStation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O15p5IxRA0k
X-Men vs. Street Fighter:
https://youtu.be/0hCC2MesqUI

Re: Japanese Charts: Paper Mario Dominates As The Switch Scores A Full House
@Olliemar28 Where are these PlayStation handheld rumors coming from? Unless Sony goes the same route as Nintendo, I don't see how it would do any better than the Vita.
At this point, I think Sony really isn't all that worried about Japan and is more focused on winning the western market and global market as a whole. If Nintendo can call itself the king of home, whatevs. As long as it continues to keep a foot on Xbox's throat and maintain a strong userbase and subscriber base between consoles, Nintendo can have lil' ol' Nippon.
Re: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Return In All-New Retro-Style Action Game
I saw what looked like a first person view of fighting with with the Megazord, and it instantly reminded me of the mech fights from Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon. And that that, I say "YES PLEASE! INJECT IT STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS!"
Re: Nintendo's 'Mega Extreme Fun Sale' Brings Tasty Discounts To Select eShop Titles (North America)
Re: Video: For 365 Days, We Took Our 2DS Everywhere Just For StreetPass
@eza Yep, it's a Tile card! Like once a year, I forget/misplace/let my wallet fall out of my pocket, and I either spend days looking for it or spend time and money replacing cards and IDs (and then inevitably find it later). So that thing pays for itself.
Re: Nintendo's 'Mega Extreme Fun Sale' Brings Tasty Discounts To Select eShop Titles (North America)
@elpuma85 @montrayjak @andyg1412
They felt like Prince of Persia deserves its own column, seeing how it's currently on sale in brick and mortar stores for half off, lol
@Tyranexx And the cheapest it will likely ever be, since Nintendo is the publisher
Re: 'Yooka-Replaylee' Brings Back Playtonic's Love Letter To Banjo In Remastered Form
@Sonicka "Saying that… this didn’t stop Sony having 3 versions of The Last of Us available to play on PS5… 🤣"
Same thing with Shadow of the Colossus: PS2 version, PS3 tune-up of the PS2 version, and PS4 remake!
Re: Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Is Looking Suitably Spooky In New Japanese Trailers
I remember playing a demo/kiosk for the original Luigi's Mansion way back in the day and wanting more, then finally getting access to the full game years later and just being bored out of my mind halfway through the game, despite it's short runtime. It felt like a tech demo that got greenlit for a full game.
That feeling has put me off from touching the next two LMs, although I'd like to give the series another shot. I hope Nintendo releases a demo (although that didn't do much good for me the first time).
Re: Shiver Entertainment Has Updated Its Website After Being Acquired By Nintendo
@AccessibleDaydream That's what I was thinking. Could also mean that they'll finish up any contracts they already had in the mix.
Re: Metal Slug Tactics Blasts Onto Switch This Fall
Wow, I pretty much assumed this game was vaporware after hearing nothing the past couple of years. Looking forward to it!
Re: Video: For 365 Days, We Took Our 2DS Everywhere Just For StreetPass
@eza My bad, it's Bluetooth. Sometimes I think one thing while saying/typing another.
Re: Video: For 365 Days, We Took Our 2DS Everywhere Just For StreetPass
@Spider-Kev Fire Emblem Awakening has characters you can only unlock and recruit via StreetPass. So if you are starting the game for the first time now (or if you have to wipe the game's save file for any reason), you're at the mercy of hoping to run into someone else carrying their 3DS around too if you want to use said characters.
Re: Video: For 365 Days, We Took Our 2DS Everywhere Just For StreetPass
Re: Video: For 365 Days, We Took Our 2DS Everywhere Just For StreetPass
Re: Soapbox: Fire Emblem’s Future May Not Be In Turn-Based Combat
@Ralizah My bad, I don't know how I completely missed the word "via"
Re: Video: For 365 Days, We Took Our 2DS Everywhere Just For StreetPass
Re: Soapbox: Fire Emblem’s Future May Not Be In Turn-Based Combat
If a shift toward turn-based RPG elements with more social sim aspects and ridiculously garish character designs is what Fire Emblem needs, then why didn't Tokyo Mirage Sessions do better on Wii U and Switch?
Re: Soapbox: Fire Emblem’s Future May Not Be In Turn-Based Combat
@Ralizah Gave your comment a like because you summed everything up perfectly, but how did the series have dungeons and JRPG elements before the second game in the series when the first game in the series definitely did not have dungeons and the main JRPG element was leveling up and character classes?
Re: Nintendo Celebrates Paper Mario: TTYD Release With "Retro" GameCube Cover

Re: Atlus To Delist Shin Megami Tensei V & All DLC From Switch eShop
@abbyhitter I'm going to have to do the same, but since Atlas wants to screw us over, I'll give it the middle finger right back and get a used copy of Vengeance a few years down the line.
I could (almost) excuse Capcom for this garbage practice in the days before DLC and the ability to bolt on expansions, but there is no excuse for it in 2024.
Re: Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked Crashes Onto Switch In June
@Ralizah $30 is the sucker's/loyalist's price. About half a year after launch, it'll go on sale for half off every couple of months like the Castlevania and Contra collections.
