Re: Capcom Is Hosting A Huge Spring Sale, Super Savings On 32 eShop Titles (North America)

burninmylight

@Dodger How do the Switch controls compare to the Wii version? I thought the pointer controls on Wii were so good that they could have considered having paint mode in real time, and the combat with the Wiimote added a sense of timing and rhythm not present in the PS2 (and Okamiden on the DS).

I've been waiting on the Switch version to drop down to at least half price like it is now, but now I want to know how combat and painting feels before closing the deal.

Re: Nintendo Switch Players Advised To Secure Accounts After Numerous Unauthorised Login Reports

burninmylight

@Chandelure-BW Thank you for mentioning that there are other 2FA options. Would be even better if I could link my phone for 2FA through SMS, but oh well.

@SwitchForce I've worked in IT for several years, and I can confirm that this is the best advice you can give to someone. Everyone wants the magic password/software/anti-virus/security suite that lets them set and forget so they never have to be careful again, but we have to constantly remind people that real life doesn't work that way: the biggest security flaw IS THE USER. If you get an unsolicited email to login to your account or reset your PW, then don't use it. Type the URL or use your bookmark and go to the site yourself.

Re: There's A Newly-Discovered Exploit In Pokémon Sword And Shield Ruining Competitive Play

burninmylight

Did you guys forget that this was technically possible prior to Gen 7? The only difference is that sore losers would just turn off their DS/3DS before the last turn was over, but the result was the same.

A big reason why I stopped matching up with randoms online. When I do battle against someone, it's usually someone that I met on Discord or GameFAQs, or someone I know in real life.

Re: Netflix Confirms Fourth Season Of The Castlevania Animated Series

burninmylight

@khululy I actually agree with you, and I reread my comment from earlier and realize that what I meant sounds totally different from what I typed.

You're right, that part did feel forced, and it was clearly a means to shoo out some throwaway characters before the end of the season. What I meant was that having such a scene appear in a series like Netflix's Castlevania, where the very first episode features an extended dialogue about getting very "friendly" with goats, and dead fetuses hanging out of demons' mouths, is far from being out of place.

It would be like complaining about fornication in a show like The Tudors or Game of Thrones. You know what you signed up for from the get-go, so don't start drawing lines now (not saying you, @khululy, but in general).

Re: Netflix Confirms Fourth Season Of The Castlevania Animated Series

@moltakfire Thank you! The series has been rated R this entire time, so what does any expect? Curse words, extreme violence and gore, blood and guts by the gallons, and blasphemous content against Judeo-Christian faith is perfectly acceptable, but now the content in Season 3 is where people draw the line? Pfffftttt

And I say this as a lifelong follower of Christ, and someone who normally does NOT want content like that in my fiction, usually because it feels contrived and made only to titillate horny fans' fantasies. Felt right at home in Castlevania.

Re: Talking Point: Jargon-Heavy Xbox Series X And PS5 Reveals Vindicate Nintendo's Approach

burninmylight

@LUIGITORNADO

M$ making some of the most idiotic decisions possible with the X1 had a lot more to do with the PS4's success than power. The power difference between the two consoles is pretty much negligible; there is nothing on PS4 that can't be ported right over to the X1 with too much effort and vice versa.

MS gave the generation away when it decided to:

1) ship a console with mandatory motion controls and a spycam that added an extra $100 to the bill at launch

2) Go all in with anti-consumer DRM, a no used games policy, and a mandatory online connection at all times

3) a completely callous attitude it took toward concerned customers ("We have a device for people who don't have internet connections; it's called the Xbox 360!")

4) Go years with no first party exclusives

Gamers on the Internet who get tickled over power are in the minority. Games and console features are what decide successful consoles, not power. Never has been.

As the world's slowest gamer, I just started BotW, and it is the first time in years that I just absolutely have to force myself to put a game down after realizing ___ hours have passed, and I fiend for it when I'm not at home!

I was just in that same area fighting that same guardian the other day, and I had no idea how that guardian flip trick; now I have to try it!

Re: Junichi Masuda Says Cut Pokémon Will "Definitely" Return In Future Games

burninmylight

@Spudtendo How does leaving out options for more mon, teambuilding and diversity equal "change and new experiences"?

Way to perpetuate the strawman argument that those wanting more content don't want new content as well, as if including all of the old mon doesn't mean that it will make for a more complete game instead of one like a patchwork quilt riddled with holes all over it.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #1 - Super Metroid

burninmylight

@GrailUK I just realized after so many years that those random claws next to what I thought for 25 years was the moon is actually Kraid's feet and belly!

Which is another point in the favor of the Japanese box art. Why have less than 50 percent of Kraid, and the least important parts of him at that? Might as well have taken him out completely.

Re: Junichi Masuda Releases Official Message About Limiting Sword And Shield's Pokédex

@Heavyarms55 Hi, welcome to the Internet, where every major multi-million dollar franchise has loud fanatics in the fanbase that are more overt and in-your-face than the quiet majority. Make sure you're sitting down before you read this next statement........ Pokemon is far from the only entertainment property that this applies to. In fact, if your entertainment property doesn't have a significant segment of loud, whiny complainers that get most of the attention on the Internet, then it must not be all that relevant in pop culture.

Therefore, instead of out the franchise to no-name studios that have no history of solid workmanship like you're used to, we've asked our friends over at EAD to make the next Sonic game while we shadow them and take notes!"

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th June (North America)

@DarthFoxMcCloud Are you talking about USD? I just checked Amazon for Vesperia, where it’s currently on sale for $30, down from $40. It’s normally $50 in the eShop, but the sale in USD is for $35. Are you talking Canadian cash, or am I missing something here?

Asking because I want to make sure I’m not missing out on a collector’s edition or anything for almost the same price. 😜

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Is Retiring After 15 Notable Years At Nintendo of America

burninmylight

Kinda mixed on this. He came out of the gate acting like he was ready to throw haymakers (here to “kick ass and take names”), but does anyone besides me remember those face-smackingly cringy “Ask Reggie” segments IGN did with him every week?

Matt Cassamassina: Reggie, NoA barely had anything to show at E3 and hasn’t announced a GameCube exclusive in months. Can you give us an idea of what’s to come, like anything?

Reggie: Did you know about our great exclusives like Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime and Luigi’s Mansion? You can find them in a store near you!

MC: Reggie, Nintendo is struggling with an image of being too kiddy or not seriously enough for enthusiastic gamers. Does Nintendo have any strategy to combat this?

Reggie: We published Eternal Darkness and Metroid Prime, which are on shelves as we speak. By the way, have I mentioned you can now get your own GBA for the low, low price of $100? What’s more “cool” than that?

Re: Phantasy Star Joins The Sega AGES Line On Switch Today

burninmylight

@MeloMan same here. I remember playing PS2 about 17 years ago and spending an hour or two a day for nearly a month doing nothing but grinding JUST to be able to face the penultimate and final bosses. That sheer amount of grinding plus the uninspired dungeons has scared me away from ever touching an old school Phantasy Star again, but QoL features like these are pretty tempting.

The attention to detail is one of the things I absolutely love about Smash. While playing Link and Yoshi's classic mode runs, it took me

a while to figure out why I couldn't damage Ganon (gotta go for that tail just like in OoT) and why Deku Nuts kept appearing against Rathalos (Flash Bombs, duh!).
