Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

bransby

I'm most disappointed in Nintendo's cheapness. You have to pay for a tech demo? They spent a long part of the presentation talking about this camera that you have to pay extra for? $90 physical games? At least you finally get a price break for buying digital.

The new Donkey Kong game looks good, though.

Edit: Oh, and I forgot about having to buy a new SD card since you can't use the non-"express" ones.

Re: Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?

bransby

I voted poor. They didn't reveal anything we didn't already strongly suspect via leaks, and the design of the system itself is fine, but plays things very safely. It is nice to see that being able to use the joycons as mice is seemingly confirmed, and that digital and physical backwards compatibility is confirmed.

Re: Talking Point: Can Sony And Microsoft Really Compete With Nintendo In A New 'Handheld War'?

bransby

As someone who owns both a Switch and a Steam Deck, Sony and Microsoft would have to offer something truly unique for me to consider getting one of their handheld consoles. From my perspective, the Steam Deck offers pretty much everything the Switch doesn't, and vice-versa. So for Sony and/or Microsoft to get my attention, they would need an interesting hook or gimmick that I haven't considered yet. I don't see that happening. Barring that, why shouldn't I just keep getting iterations of the Switch and Steam Deck?

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

bransby

$500 will probably be fine, but without knowing anything official about the console, it's hard to say. If it has upgraded specs and full physical and digital backwards compatibility with the original Switch, I'll buy it. It would be cool if it had some weird new Nintendo gimmick, too, but that's not my top priority.

Re: Nintendo's Miscrediting Practices Are "Ridiculous", Say External Translators

bransby

While the translators absolutely should get individual credits on the games they worked, it seems like they should at least be able to put "Translator at Localsoft" on their CV's, and maybe a description like "Translation and localization for major video game projects". If the potential employer needs more details, they can call the translator's boss at Localsoft.

Re: Talking Point: HD-2D Or 3D - How Should Square Enix Remake Chrono Trigger?

bransby

If they are doing a shot-for-shot remake, HD-2D is the way to go.

If they do a 3D remake of Chrono Trigger, they can't half-ass it. It would need to be something that captures the feel of the original game while still having cutting-edge graphics, much like Squenix has done with the Final Fantasy VII remake. I don't know what that would look like exactly, but it can't just be shot-for-shot environment rebuilds with 3D models running around. That would feel tacky, to me.
